Just returned from a 6 night stay at RPR. Since I spent a couple of weeks looking at the boards for answers to many questions, I thought I'd try and provide some answers to others. First, I had some reservations about devoting an entire stay at US/IOA. We are die hard WDW fans, and have not been there since December 2001. We've been to WDW 5 times, and prior to this trip to US once, in 1998 or 1999. It was enjoyable the first trip, but not on par with Disney. However, our last trip to WDW was alittle disappointing as things appeared to be degenerating just a bit. So, we decided to give Universal another try.

1) Does Universal have "magic"? Absolutely. There were no regrets not being at WDW. Every staff member we encountered was professional, friendly, and made an effort to be helpful. Things are newer, cleaner, better maintained, and usually edgier than than WDW.

2) How does the RPR compare with WDW deluxe resorts? We always stay the Beach Club Resort at WDW. I would give the room at the Beach Club a slight edge. However in terms of the reort itself- the theming, the staff attentiveness, the amenities, it is the RPR hands down. A very enjoyable stay.
There is, by the way, internet access though the TV in every room. A wireless keyboard is provided, and it is 10.95 for 24 hours. High speed is also available for laptops.

3) Is 6 days too long at Universal? We are accustomed to feeling rushed spending 6 days at WDW. This was luxery. To be able to take things at a leisurely pace, pay attention to the many layers of detail in each attraction, and just sit and watch periodically. Always enough to do, but never pressured to hurry.

4) How are the crowds right now? We only used fotl a few times in the afternoons. Typically walked on everything. Went to see a couple of movies at the cinema in the afternoon. In Million Dollar Baby we were among a "crowd" of 9. White Noise was shown to my wife and myself alone.

All in all would say WDW better pay attention. Universal is out disneying Disney. Would be glad to answer any questions..

I enjoyed your report. I'm going for the first time in March. I'm getting very excited and reading your views makes me want to get there sooner.

Thanks for the report, Spectres. We started off with DW vacations and squeezed in USF/IOA, now we have a USF/IOA vacation and try to squeeze in DW for a few days, lol

Glad you had a great trip :)

:flower:Spectres, It was good to read your report as we will be doing US & IOA for our entire stay. We are staying at the PBH. Just wondering, How was the weather during your stay? Should we take mostly slacks and a jacket? :wave2:

Have been many times to WDW. This is our first time going to US and staying at Royal Pacific. I had been wondering if 5 days in Nov was going to be too much and was thinking if we should plan a day at Sea World since they provide free transportation to Sea World.

What is there to do at City Walk? We will be going with 25,17,and 18 yr.

Any places to eat that you liked not into real fancy restaurants.

aside from saturday, the weather's been in the 70's, getting a little chilly at night. perfect for sleeping with the windows open.

:flower: Thanks for the reply! We will be leaving Pittsburgh on Feb 22 and be arriving in Orlando around 10:30 am. I wanted to get a jump start on my packing. It is cold here in Somerset County, PA, 70 sounds like a heat wave! If you have any suggestions on attire, it would be greatly appreciated. :wave2:

Hi Gary & Lisa,

I'm from NY and usually travel to USO between Dec-Feb. We bring a bit of everything. Weather has always been unpredictable and we have had one extreme to another. Your best bet is layers! We start the day (unless its a heat wave) with usually shorts and sweatshirts. It could be cool by floridian standards but not for us. Under the sweatshirts we have tank tops or tee shirts and peel off as needed! Have a great trip! :)

Gary & Lisa the weather was great during our stay. My wife wore a light sweater during the early morning, though short sleeves were comfortable to me. We both wore a light jacket at night. It was never too warm, a nice breeze kept things pleasant even during the warmest part of the day.

Phabric if you haven't been to Sea World I would recommend taking a day to do that. We had been to Sea World during prior trips to Orlando, and had planned to do so again this time. But, we fell so easily in the groove of taking it easy we just never went this time.
City Walk has an assortment of shopping opportunites, dining, live music during the evenings, and a 20 screen Loews Cinema. Ther is going to be some interesting acts playing on Saturdays during Madi Gras including Creedence Clearwater Revisited, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The O'Jays, and many others on an outdoor stage.
We ate half of our evening meals at either Emeril's or The Tchoup Chop: and the other half at The Islands in the hotel or Hard Rock Cafe. Of course the Emeril's are both great. We were also pleased with The Islands- it exceeded our expectations. In the parks Mythoes can't be beat. The menu is similar to many other places in the parks, but the preparation, and presentation is noticably better.

jessicar, i see your also from Long Island, great to see a neighbor on here. Any weather over 50 sounds good to us, right?
