We just got off the July 4th Wonder Cruise. It was truly a magical trip. I hope to get a full trip report up soon, but heres a few thoughts/highlights.
Palos: We were first in line for Palo reservations at 1:00. Starting time was 1:30, but they really started about 1:15. I cant say enough about this meal, each course got better and better. I wasnt thrilled with the appetizers because they were a bit too funky for me. The soup & salad were good. The meal was very good and I guess all I can say about dessert is is was incredible. Also, I felt a little self conscious because we were just ordering cokes, no wine or anything(had enough drinks by the pool that day). I was very impressed that the waiter never pushed the wine on us like I expected he would. My only complaint about Palo is that the tables that are in the midle row are directly next to the tables by the window. I think if they staggered them, the people in the middle row(us) wouldnt be staring at people next to them when they try to look out the window.
Adult Entertainment: Since this was our first trip without the kids, we got to experience all the stuff we didnt get to do on our first Disney Cruise. The 70s party was absolutely hysterical. I had tears rolling down my face. I think a lot depends on the people who are picked, but we got some good ones. Match Your Mate was a lot of fun, as was Dueling Pianos and Karaoke. I was surprised at how raunchy some of the stuff was, so if that type of stuff offends you, be warned.
Food: I can honestly say we enjoyed the food more this time than we did almost 2 yrs ago. There still was a limited variety on the restuarant menus, but since I knew what to expect this time I wasnt disappointed. We also enjoyed chicken tenders, pizza, and nachos at various spots around the ship. The breakfast buffet was very good, but the final breakfast before leaving the ship was pretty sad. I ordered pancakes and got 2, about the size of the palm of my hand, I wasnt even offered a choice of meat with them.
Stateroom 5522, Secret Porthole: I would definitely go for this room again. Basically the only obstruction was that you couldnt see straight down to the ocean. Also, upon embarkation we skipped the buffet and went right to our room. We were allowed in right away, well before 1:00.
Cast Members: Everyone was very friendly and did a great job!
Disney Dreams: Do NOT miss this! We loved it the first time, and it was just as magical the second time around.
Parasailing at Castaway Cay: This was probably the only thing that went wrong(and it was pretty minor at that). My only reason for wanting to do this was to go up with DH. I specifically made sure that we met the weight limit before we booked so we could go up together. Unfortuantely because of the winds sometimes they dont let you go up together. I was unaware of this until we got onto the boat and they were putting the harnesses on us and they announced we all had to go up alone. This was a big disappointment for me and I almost didnt do it(I had no desire to go up alone). But DH talked me into it and Im glad I did it. It was really neat. I still would have rathered we had gone together but, what can you do? So if you dont want to do this alone, be prepared that they make the final decision regardless of your weight.
I think thats most of the big stuff. We are sad to be home, but its nice to see the kids again. And for people who say a Disney trip without the kids is stupid(which I did hear from some friends), all I can say is they are sooooo wrong! We had an amazing time and it was a totally different experience without the kids this time.
