Back from a 7 night stay at Orange Lake, where we spent out days as well as a few late evenings in WDW. Very fun trip, but very exhausting! Here's some observations we made:

I get that a big part of the appeal of WDW is revisiting favorite attractions, and that's why so many attractions are so long lived. However, unless I'm grossly mistaken, Walt never wanted his parks to become static museums. So, why exactly is the Hall of Presidents still around? Or the Tiki Birds? Or Tomorrowland Speedway? Instead of HoP, I'd love to see an Ichobod Crane attraction.

The Speedway was especially off-putting. My wife's car nearly stalled out; our party didn't race, instead we were driving in a line. Wow, that's exciting ... what I get to do every day on the highway. The cars were difficult to steer as well. This attraction came across as poorly maintained, pure and simple. What would be really cool would be to replace part of its footprint with a 2nd node for the Peoplemover, so the PM is a legit transport option within Tomorrowland. And, surely Disney could put something else far more in line with Tomorrowland's theme in the remaining space. That's a lot of land dedicated to a really bad attraction.

7DMT - I don't get the complaints people have with this. This is a brilliant attraction. It was the first time we'd seen the new Fantasyland, and I was blown away. Yes, Harry P across town is awesome, but so is this entire new area. The typical Disney theming and attention to detail in all of New Fantasyland was very much in evidence and I loved all of it. Turns out 7DMT was our last attraction on this trip, and my wife and I lucked out and scored front row seats, so that was a nice bonus as well.

Under the Sea - Totally new to us, and we all loved it. The queue is outstanding, and the ride itself is wonderful. It's a basic dark ride, yes, no different from so many others Disney has, but personally, I can't get enough of them.

The food - ahh, the food. Some of it was average, most of it was superb, and all of it was ridiculously expensive. In Disney's defense, every restaurant was full, so I can't blame them for their prices. We're already going through withdrawals on the food, and we haven't even been back 24 hours yet. BTW, if you're looking for a great offsite place, eat at Chey's off 192. Best tex-mex I've ever eaten.

FP+ - we had no issues; our typical day was to arrive at park opening, hit the high demand rides via standby, then uses passes for other major attractions later in the day and visit high capacity and/or low demand attractions right after. I loved FP+ because I no longer have to sprint to Soarin for paper passes and then run to rendezvous with the rest of my party someplace else. We only used our daily 3, and didn't try to get more. We usually only stayed in a park 6 or maybe 7 hours at most. We also once used a FP for the Fantasy parade, which is an excellent use for a pass.

MK Crowding - They should open back pathways up that parallel Main Street during the evening parades & fireworks. Traffic does not flow well at all otherwise.

Epcot's FutureWorld - this place has too many empty buildings and under utilized spaces. We loved the attractions that are here, but if you get to the park early, and use FP+, you're gonna run out of things to do here fast.

Overall, while the crowds were thick, our wait times were minimal on the vast majority of attractions we tried. I especially enjoyed taking my f-i-l with us, as it was his first visit to WDW. After we left yesterday, he made a funny joke, 'Well, I've had my Disney-oscopy, so I should be good for the next 10 years.'

Well, I'll stand in defense of Hall of Presidents. We go every time we're at Disney and even when we lived down there, if we went to MK for a half day or day, we went to Hall of Presidents. It's a keeper. If someone wants Ichabod Crane, (never heard that request before!), put it in Fantasyland....
We only went to Tiki twice and that was probably back in its early years. Not even curious now. There are lots of things we bypass ever since our "boys" became adults. Likewise, haven't done the speedway since they were kids -- still don't understand the attraction. Like a carnival ride??
We didn't get to try the Mine Train, but I heard the theming is very nice. We love Thunder Mountain and if it's anything at all similar, plus the story theming, I think I'd like it. We totally avoided getting anywhere near Fantasyland on our trip early May. It's a zoo.
The food has gotten monotonous. Same stuff in every counter service restaurant with very little variety. We rarely do sit-down/table service meals, but had a nice one at AK during our last trip. It was getting hot, humid, and time for a meal. So we did something different.
I agree that Future World needs an injection of some sort. I miss some of the old things there -- Horizons, World of Motion, the real Figment/Dreamfinder, etc. We only do our favorites there and enjoy World Showcase from 11:00 a.m. on when it opens.
We first went to Disney in May of 1982. Epcot wasn't finished until that fall. We continued to do our favorites over the years and occasionally try something new. Not everything new is a good thing.
Just my humble opinion of course.

Ichobod Crane fits in Liberty Square, because of the time period. But, I doubt they'd want 2 Halloween themed attractions in such a relatively small area of the park.

But, yes, the Headless Horseman would work in Fantasyland as well.

People like the classics, that's why they keep them.

I love all of those shows, Country Bears, Carousel of Progress, Tiki Room. Love love love. I also love Hall of the Presidents. I think it's really well-done and it's saved us on those hot days where we need to cool off for a bit.

The food. :crazy2: Disney food, imo, is wretched. Even if it tastes good, I always feel horrible after it.

I agree on Epcot. FutureWorld desperately needs an overhaul and some new attractions.

I do agree, particularly about the speedway. Seems outdated and almost tacky and takes up a lot of room. Why as a minimum no attempts to update / re-theme (eg Cars)?

I was wondering why there is no real public push to lose the speedway. I drove on it when I was 6 (42 now), so it has had a long life. But there is no real nostalgia or classic meaning to the ride, so why keep it.
Let the imagineers come up with their idea of future personal transportation and display it there. They are just as smart or smarter than anybody at Google!

I agree. It's so obvious that space (and it's a big space!) needs something new. I guess it comes down to spending the money.

My beef with the Speedway is the nearly 3rd degree burns you get from those seats!

Hall of Presidents does change every 4 to 8 years. I know many find it boring, but I never miss it. I LOVE watching the older Presidents' movements on stage.

However, I will NEVER understand the appeal of the Speedway. As a kid I rode it once. I have never done so since. It was boring and a waste of my Magic Kingdom time. Nevermind that it is hot, it stinks, it is slow, and it doesn't even make sense as a Tomorrow Land themed attraction.

What is sad is how much space it takes up and what could be done with that space! Another headliner paired with Space Mountain (like Splash and Thunder) would be amazing.

Yeah, I adore the theme of the whole land .. a retro 1940'ish pulp sci-fi vision of the future. The speedway definitely doesn't fit with it. Neither does CoP either ... it oughtta go in Epcot's Futureworld.

So what could they build to replace the Speedway? An Incredibles attraction would be pretty sweet, and timely, since a sequel is definitely underway. Not that they should necessarily build something just because they've got movie coming soon ... BTW, props to Disney for building the 7DMT, a ride based on their oldest feature film. It would have been too easy to build something based on a hotter, more recent film.

Star Wars would work in that space, too, but the Studios seems to be a better home IMO. On the other hand, their characters do cross over quite a bit from one park to another.

Being from Jersey I have 3 amusement parks within an hour of me where I can ride the EXACT same ride as the Speedway. Totally agree it is as unimaginative as Disney gets. Now if they did away with it they would have a large wide open space to dedicate to something futuristic.......hmmmmmmmm......

We were there a couple of weeks ago and my 8 yr old niece LOVED the speedway. She could actually drive a car ON HER OWN! That's why they keep it, Every day kids get to drive a real car on their own for the first time. For them, it's not outdated at all.

As long as people continue to line up for the speedway, I doubt that Disney will be in a hurry to remove it. Plus CoP is a museum piece that needs to be preserved somewhere. Now Stitch on the other hand...

If memory serves, there was originally a plan to put an Ichabod Crane ride in Liberty Square in the begining. It just never happened. I sort of agree with the OP on some of the issues. However....

The Tiki room in DL lets you take your Dole Whip inside the show. Let me repeat that: They LET you take your food INSIDE the show!! Imagine how nice that would be? The original Tiki room was going to be a restaurant, so I guess that makes sense. But think about how nice it would be and how much more traffic the Tiki room would get if it had snacks and such in it?

I hate Under the Sea. Sure, it's a nice ride and all, but it's a direct copy of DL's one. So, why bring a direct copy here? Couldn't they have come up with another idea? Something more unique? Oh wait, it's Disney - they don't want to have original rides that would increase traffic to the different parks (sorry about the snark). So, I feel like you've seen one Under the Sea, you've seen them all.

Yes, the Speedway needs something. :drive: But, for most kids, this is a car that you can actually drive! How cool is that when you are 7+? That's AWESOME! Plus, I have some great memories of my dad taking me on the ride. Now, if you are over 16, driving this is not that cool. Heck, driving a car - any car - kinda loses its appeal. They go slow because there is a governator on them. I would love to see a cars-themed overlay or very futuristic/1930's overlay on the cars. As it is, they look like a bunch of NASCAR rejects. :(

As for HoP - don't mess with my favorite nap/nursing place!! :rotfl: And yes, Epcot future world needs lots of love. Don't know what type of love, but it needs it. The main issue, I have heard, is that every pavilion is supported by a company, so the pavilions only get love when a company supports it. I think.

They better never ever mess with the hall of presidents, this is America at its best. Had to believe this May be the only history lesson some kids get as history is hardly taught in schools ant more.

I am not ashamed to say that I tear up when they play battle hymn of the rebuplic every time,,,,,,,

I love Hall of Presidents and Carousel of Progress. I enjoy Tiki as well. I wouldn't miss Speedway, but will say I remember it being my daughters favorite ride when she took her first trip at age 4. I do think it hits a specific age group just right. And I also ride the People. Mover once every trip, but it's one if my least favorite disney rides. Not worth taking out another ride just to expand it IMO.

I think it's funny that we've had people here claim that WDW should never ruin their impeccable theming with a roller coaster, yet the speedway still sits there like a blight on Tomorrowland.

As others have already said, kids around 8 love the speedway, my children included when they were at that age. It was like they were able to drive a car for the first time! We would go and ride the speedway first to avoid the lines later in the day.
