We just came back last night from a 5 1/2 day trip to DLR. So I thought I would post some of the things we found out that were helpful.

The Drive Down-
Drove down from North Bay down 5 like always. The Lebec rest area was closed, but they don't tell you that until you are right there. The sign says the next one is 200 miles! We had sandwiches with us and we always eat there. So at the point we just kept going and ate when we got to our room. The Lebec rest area going north has been closed for several years but this is the first time we have found this one closed. It was filled with tractors when we went by so plan accordingly.

We stop at the travel centers sometimes and they have yummy chocolate banana coffee for a cheap price. :)

The Hotel-
We stayed again at CCI. It was wonderful as always so nothing new to report that isn't in my orginal review in my sig. We brought our own Keurig coffee maker (the smaller one) and some K cups so that we could have some good strong coffee in the morning and mid-day.

We timed the walk this time. Getting to DLR security in the morning took 8 minutes at a fast walk making the cross walk light. On the way back it too 12 minutes with a wait at the light and probably a slower pace. :)

What to do on Arrival Day-
We arrived at 2pm and our room was ready. After our late lunch and resting a bit we got to the parks around 3:30. Not having any FPs, we went to Mermaid first with a 20 min wait. TSMM, Monsters, and a parade would all be good choices for a first afternoon with no FPs. We were back to CCI around 9 to rest up for the next day.

Star Tours-
We went on ST 8 times while there- 2 times a day. None on the last day. Our strategy went like this: Arrive at gate by opening. We were not the first in and sometimes it was already open for rope drop by the time we got there. That was ok, and we still had plenty of time. We went stright to ST FP machines and got a return time for around 8:40. (On MMs our return times were about 9:45.) We then rode Buzz (no wait) sevearl times. Then go to another ride like IJ or Thunder while standby line was still short. Then head back to ST FP machines as soon as we were able to get more. The time for the second ST FPs was afteroon. Somewhere around 2 or 3 (or 4 on MM). Of course, by the time we were able to get the next FP, ST was empty. We never stood in line standby to see it.

The odd thing is, except for our first ride, every other ride took us to the snow planet- both morning and afternoon.

WOC-
Last year we did a WOC dinner. This year we just wanted to try FPs and we didn't want to rush over first thing in the morning which is prime time at DL. We headed over to WOC FPs at noon hoping to get blue for the second showing which it was. We watched Laserman at 8:45 (very cool! ) then got pretzles and sat down to eat them in the warf area. At 9:25 we joined the "line" for the blue section near the warf area. Lots of people were in front of us, but more were behind us. I kept an eye out for the VIP section and found the yellow hydrant near it. We stopped there at the railing while everyone else filled in down below. Then they started lining up at the railing along with walkway near us. Just before the show started, a few people came in behind us. We had a clear view of the show and it was a great spot. If the VIP section had been filled and those people decided to stand, then it might have been harder to see. But there were only 2 people in the VIP section. Love that show! :thumbsup2

Food-
We loved the new food at The Hungry Bear. Now a great place to eat has some good food. I really liked the chili cheese burger. MUCH better than the old burgers they used to serve! I had the sweet potato fries which were ok considering I hate sweet potatos. I still can't believe they can't offer regular fries!

Wetzles Preztles in DTD has a wonderful pepperoni pretzel! Yum! Bubba Gumps on the outside of Garden Walk was really good for seafood and non seafood eaters alike. We all enjoyed it. At Cafe Orleans I tried the gumbo for the first time and it was amazing! LOVE IT! I will definately go back for that again!

Rides-
On Friday, our last day, we skipped ST and went straight to Peter Pan, then over to Nemo (about a 35 min wait).

We discovered that Big Thunder is the most fun at night. And the cave you pass through first is different in the night from the day. Also, the sounds coming from the "town" are different at night.

Parade and Fireworks-
On friday we found a spot at 6:15 closer to IASW for the 6:30 parade, which doen't come by there until 6:45. I liked this one much better than the old celebrate one. The costumes are amazing and clever and remind me of the Pixar Play Parade (probably because the same people who worked on that one, did this one).

The fireworks show was Magical, which we all liked. We arrived at 9:15 by IASW and found a spot on the ground to watch where we could see the sky and the images on the building.

Last-
We were lucky enough to get to see the new entrance to DCA on our last day. It looks so much better than the old one! It was also nice to walk right in without going around the big wall. We all thought it looked very cool and more so at night.

I think that's about it. Hopefully people going soon found some helpful info in here. :)

Thanks so much for the info! We will be there next week for just a day and a half. Our main objective is to experience the new things - so I appreciate your comments! I'm so releived that Little Mermaid doesn't have the long waits I was afraid it might. That will make it so much easier for us to ride at least two times on Star Tours. We won't arrive on Thursday till late afternoon, so I don't even think we will try ST that day. Friday the plan is to be there for rope drop - ride standby and get fastpasses as soon as we get off. Then cross our fingers that we will be able to get one more set before they run out. That would be 3 times in one day!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the parade! I'm on the fence about taking out time to see it on this trip, since it will be so short. We will be going back for my birthday, but that's in December so that will be the Christmas parade. :santa: I think you've convinced me to at least try to see it next week.

Thanks again!! Glad you had a great trip! :wizard:

Thanks for the great trip summary :thumbsup2! Sounds like you had a great time and were really organized with everything! We were just there last month, and now I want to go back and follow your plan!

Thank you! That is some helpful information for our August trip. I have seen a lot of people talking about the yellow hydrant to watch WOC by. Can you give me the details of that? It sounds like a good spot to watch the show.

What is with not being able to serve french fries? Is it just at that restaurant, or is it throughout DLR?

Great observations.

Remember Star Tours doesn't have over 50 different rides/flights, it has over 50 combinations. So there are 3 parts with a few varieties each. So seeing some of the same things are common.

We never did try getting in the ST line first thing so you'll have to report back if you were able to get 3 rides in one day. I'd love to know. As for the parade, we liked it but we had a lot of days there. You have to decide what is important to your group. My teen boys went off by themselves while DH and I watched the parade. I just loved all the bright colors and music.

We tried to get our teen boys to go off on their own more, but they wanted to stay with us because they said we knew where to go and when. ;)

I learned about it on the WOC super thread. Somewhere on that thread I found a picture from the air that showed the different sections. When you first come to the blue section, there is a walkway people take down closer to the water. We didn't go down, but stayed back and walked towards the VIP section. If you face WOC you are on the left and a little behind the VIP. You can scout out the hydrant earlier in the day which I meant to do, but forgot.

The Hungry Bear and also one of the new places in Paradise Pier only serve the SP fries. I don't know what is up with that. :confused3 I think it is great to have something new, but it seems like that has become the standard for new places. Other places in the park do serve reg. fries. The best, of course, are the ones at Cafe Olreans!

Yes, I know that but we never saw the pod race that I've heard they have and it was odd that first place we went on every ride except the one on Monday was ALWAYS the snow planet. It had to more than just random chance. :confused3

The best planet is the under water one. We saw that several times and loved it.

In just a couple location they changed out regular fries for the healthier sweet potato fries. I do find it wierd that they don't serve both.

Yes! He was tricky to find because I wasn't sure which stage he would use. But we were very glad we made a point of seeing him. :thumbsup2

Oh, BTW one more thing I noticed about Innovations: Last summer to go in you had to wait on the ramp, play the Disney alphebet game with a CM to pass the time until they let you step up and see a video and hear a long talk about the Elias family's children winning the soccer championship. Talk about boring! This summer we were pleasantly surprised to find you walk in on the upper room with no boring soccer talk and then exit out the house level. We also saw Asimo which was pretty neat- a robot that can balance while walking like a human upstairs and downstairs, kicking, etc. We've all seen it in movies but a real robot that can actually balance while walking is very neat.

We found the same thing, we rode it twice and got the same combination with only a very slight difference, rather than a man-sorry not sure who- telling us how desperate our situation was, Princess Leah told us the second time. Other than that, it was the exact same ride...

Funny, we had the pod racing one both times we rode! We were hoping for something different the second time around!

Aw! We were hoping to see the podrace one. We started to wonder if they showed certain clips at certain times of the day. We always rode once in the morning and once in the afternoon, usually around the same times.

Great report! We are going next week. Having done the picnics for WOC twice I wanted to try the FP this time. When you went at noon how long was the line for the FP?

Hmmm, could be, both times we rode late at night - about 10pm or later.popcorn::

We rode it 7 times during our trip and managed to get all parts, but some more than others. We only got the pod racing once during our times. We did ride it at various times. Sometimes first thing in the morning and other times it was the last thing we did at night. My daughter was the rebel spy twice and was quite excited about that.

No one got to be the Rebel Spy in our group. We kept wondering how they picked it. Was it random? Did the CM pick? The CM must have told it if the pic was a man or woman at least. One time no one was the spy. It was a wierd alien picture.

I had read somewhere on the boards (or maybe heard it on the Podcast?) that if you sit real still when you sit down your chances would improve for being picked. And it worked twice!

We stop at the travel centers sometimes and they have yummy chocolate banana coffee for a cheap price. :)

I'm sorry - this is WAY not the point, but WHERE are these magical travel centers where you get chocolate banana coffee??? *Must have*
I live in Southern CA, if that helps. They are along the 5 to Northern CA?
