DH and I just returned last night from our anniversary trip to WDW, and it was totally magical!
This was a short trip--checked in to ASMu 1/31 and checked out 2/3. We did a similar trip last year but stayed off site waaaaaay too far away. This time, we absolutely loved staying on site.
The CM who checked us in tried her best to upgrade us to a king room (we didn't ask, but she offered), but unfortunately there were none available. The room was small but clean and perfect for us--we didn't plan on being in the room much. I completely forgot to request a fridge when we checked in, so we went back later to see if any were available, and the front desk waived the fee for us. Yaay!
Having the anniversary buttons was so much fun. CMs were always stopping to wish us a happy anniversary.
We didn't have tickets for that first evening since we didn't arrive until around 4:30 p.m., so we toured around the monorail resorts. Dinner was at Contempo Cafe that evening. I had the curry vegetable bake and DH had the marinated beef flatbread. Both delicious! We were on the dining plan, so we also got dessert--one raspberry truffle cupcake and one dulce de leche cupcake. They were HUGE! We cut both in half, saved half of each and shared the rest. They were definitely overpoweringly sweet but still yummy. I don't know how anyone could eat a whole one by themselves.
Then we headed over to the Poly to watch the fireworks. We sat on the beach chairs right on the water, and the view was beautiful! (We didn't think you could get a better view, but we found out later in our trip that you can...and we did! More on that later.
) We couldn't really hear the music well. You could hear some of the audio actually coming from MK, and on the crescendos we could tell they were trying to pipe it in to the resort area. But that wasn't really important to us, so we didn't mind. There were a few other people on the beach--but only very few--so it was almost like having our own private show!
Immediately afterwards, we took the resort launch back to MK. The crowds were just starting to exit, so we hopped on the monorail (got on the second one--not bad) and transferred to Epcot. We managed to time it just right to see the Illuminations barges exploding and fireworks going off as the monorail went through the park.
And our bus was waiting for us when we arrived! In fact, that was our experience the whole time. We only waited for one bus, coming back from MK on the last night. Every other time, the bus was there when we needed it.
