we are just back from disney and had a great trip! some quick reviews for the places we ate at. feel free to ask questions if you want more details!

captain cooks: we stayed at the poly so had lunch here once, and breakfast here once. its very small but we were there for lunch at an offtime so no problems getting a table, and breakfast I was there early and brought back to the room. dh ate there once for breakfast during a peak time and said it was insane! food was fine...nothing special, but fine.

kona: we had both breakfast and dinner there. dinner was okay, nothing special dh had the shrimp roll and the ny strip (that was pretty tasty, actually). I had the coconut/macadamia nut chicken. it was okay. the breakfast was really good. dh had the big kahuna, I had eggs, the kids each had mickey pancakes. they aren't shaped like mickey, instead they are 3 pancakes piled to look like a mickey head. which seems a bit cheesey, couldn't they make a head? but wow they were good pancakes! the fruit was really yummy

1900 park faire (dinner): love the character interaction here! my daughter (4) was in heaven over cinderella, and the stepsisters/stepmother were a hoot. food was okay. buffet food, nothing special. although I really liked the coq au vin!

ESPN Club: its been years since we ate here. I remember it being better somehow. but it was fine, burgers, nothing special.

Castle breakfast: I had heard such wretched reports of the food here that I went in expecting the worst. it was sooo much better than I expected! I suppose it helps to have low expectations! lol. the fruit was great, they brought us extra mango and extra blueberry muffins (my boys, 6 &4 don't like french toast but love muffins!). our server was attentive and kind, the princesses we saw were cinderella (lobby), belle, aurora, mary poppins, and snow white. they were quickish, but we weren't looking for more than a quick word, and autograph and a picture to tell you the truth, so it worked great for us. snow white was particurly perfect. and there is nothing sweeter than watching my 6, 4, 4 year old and the wishing ceremony. it was taken very very seriously!

Plaza Restaurant: I love this place...a quiet spot to relax/have a nice lunch, and the prices aren't bad. I had the plaza club...I remember loving it 2 years ago. it wasn't as good as I remembered it, but it was still tasty.

abc commissary: nothing special, just burgers, a quick place to grab a bite and no line, so that worked. not great, but can I just say I love that the kids get grapes and stuff as an option? I know they do all over disney, but very nice to find them at a counter service, too.

yachtsman steakhouse: dh and I put the kids in the neverland club and had a date here. mmmm....sooo good! we've been here several times and have always had a great experience. had awesome service, and our filet's were excellent. dh had the mushrooms and he is still talking about them.

Raglan Road: we weren't expecting much, but figured it would be fine. it was okay, nothing special. my twins each had mac n cheese, their brother had shepherds pie (he didn't like it, dh and I tried it and it was really good). I had chicken with a really yummy port wine sauce...chicken was dry, the sauce helped. dh had ribs, which were pulled off the bone, and he said they were okay. pretty much meh about this meal. and we were especially disappointed to walk around the corner after and see the T Rex cafe. didn't realize it was open! the kids would have much prefered that!

T-Rex Cafe. I made a special trip over for lunch on our departure day (yesterday!). just me and the kids (dh had left 2 days earlier) and it was okay. a rainforest clone. my kids LOVED it. had mac-n-cheese, dino-nuggets, and a kids burger. I tasted the kids burger and it was really good. would have liked one myself but wasn't in the mood for a large adult burger and wasn't allowed to order off the kids menu (hey, I had to ask, some places let you!) so I saved my calories for ghiradelli after (mmmmmm).

Tusker House Breakfast: what a yummy breakfast! the food was really good, the interaction with the characters was fast but really fun. the room was gorgeous! this was h's favorite character meal, he still talks about how nice the setting was.

Thanks for the reviews. there are a few places there we have booked for our upcoming trip, and others I am thinking of booking for next year when the grandchildren are with us.

We are hoping to do a girlie character meal with our 8 year old twin grandaughters. Which one would you recommend?

We already ae planning CP and Tusker House for the larger group tha includes boys.

I would say my daughter and my friends daughter were in awe of being in the castle, so to me that is the perfect girlie meal. I figured breakfast can't be messed up too much, and I was right. the fruit was good and plentiful (they brought mounds more mango when we asked for a couple of slices!) and the muffins, etc, were good for those who didn't care for the hot breakfast. yes, its pricey, but since i booked (and paid!) for it in april, it was nice to put that behind me and try to "forget" about the price. ;)

if you want something different or want something more reasonable/more food choices/dinner, go with 1900 pf. the stepsisters/stepmother really were a hoot. and prince charming was very...charming!

Thanks for sharing your reviews. :)

We ate breakfast at 1900 Park Fare in August. I thought that meeting "speaking" characters was so fun and different than meeting the "stuffed" ones. We met Alice, Mary Poppins and the Mad Hatter at breakfast. They were funny as all-get-out, especially Alice. I never knew she could be such a brat. ;)

Next trip (keeping my fingers crossed that it will be sometime in '09), we have to have dinner there. I want to meet Cinderella's step-family. They look like a hoot. :)
