Just back from WDW - Stayed at Poly 11/2 - 11/5; then over to the Beach Club 11/5 - 11/9. Experience was better at the Poly. Smaller, homier atmosphere. We were very much looking forward to moving over to the Beach Club. So many people had told us that was their favorite.

We did, however, have some disappointments. It was my parents 50th Anniv. We had asked to have rooms "near" each other or connecting. When we arrived, we were on the First Flr., my parents were on the Fourth Flr. After some time, they did move them to the First.
The second day there, my husband had to go to the room around 10:30 to make some business calls (great thing about being so close to Epcot -- you can go back and forth to the hotel).
Well, when he got to the room, there was Jackhammering, and so much noise. Then the power went off. He thought he lost everything on his computer! He was not happy. He called the desk and they confirmed there was construction on the entire Second Flr. This was never mentioned to us. They said they do the construction from 9 - 5 -- when people are at the parks. Well, what about people that take breaks from the parks for kids to nap, or even to just take a break!
Anyway, they offered my husband an area in the Conf. Center. Sounded good. Off he went. Well, the area he was offered was a chair in the hallway. So now he had his laptop in his lap, his cell phone and papers on the floor, all in the middle of people having meetings! I met him at the Front desk -- where I was trying to change our room -- I went back with the kids and there was no power in our room, and the noise was unbelievable!

We were eventually moved to the Fourth Floor -- the room was same standard -- but actually a bit smaller. It had a nicer view, but with 5 people, we need every inch. We weren't going to move again, so just put up with it. The next day my parents asked to move, after my dad went back to the hotel for a nap, and couldn't do it with all the noise.

I guess I was just disappointed that they didn't tell us when we checked in about the construction. This way we could have made a decision whether we wanted to be on the first floor or not. The time we spent packing and unpacking could have been better spent at a park or by the pool!

It was amazing that in the middle of the night it became Christmas at the Beach Club. It was quite beautiful!

This reminds me of our first trip to the BWV's this summer. We spend a lot of time at the resort during the day. That is why I will never again stay at a resort that is doing "enhancements” It seems like lately it's hard to keep up with all the "enhancements" at the various resorts. It's to bad they won't give an even bigger discount at the resorts that are doing "enhancements” I might be able to put up with it for a good price:smooth: but not for $300 a night:(
I'm glad you had a good time at the Polynesian. I love that place. The size is one of my favorite aspects of the resort, you don't have to share it with any other resort:D

I understand the hotels need enhancements to keep up their appearance -- we all benefit. I also realize that this was probably considered a "slow" week, gearing up for the Holidays. But, I would have appreciated them advising us of the construction, so that we could have made the decision if we wanted to deal with the noise (making sure we were out during the day), or just be placed elsewhere.

Anyway, a fun time was had by all. The week was lovely, and we just adore the Food and Wine festival. The crowds were low and barely had to wait for rides. It's a great time of year. And, the added touch of the Christmas decorations mid-week was wonderful.

:)

that shouldn't really be a slow time at the BC! The F&W festival keeps them busy, I thought.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I can tell you, that as a parent of a 2 year old, I would have been VERY annoyed! We need our nap time!! It's really a shame that they couldn't have tried to keep people away from the construction (like not under it!).

I called the DC reservations line yesterday to inquire about rooms in mid-December. I thought I had remembered that there were going to be renovations going on at the BC. I was told that there was no renovation going on & that the only work was at the CBR. She was a very helpful CM (otherwise), but she obviously did not have all the info. Sorry about the experience. We have enjoyed the BC in the past.

Maura:
I'm not sure how fast the construction people at WDW work, but my Mom and I pressed the "2" on the elevator at BC to take a sneak peek, and you couldn't even get off on that floor. It was dark, and there was tape up to prevent getting off the elevator.

When I had inquired about moving to a different room on the first floor, I was told the construction was across the whole second floor, and that the crew moved around. They couldn't guarantee where they'd be working from day to day. So, you'd be safe on the fourth floor. I would imagine you'd get the noise on three, too!

You'll have a great time -- it's just good to be aware!
