Just back from 8 days at Port Orleans Riverside. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I thought I would share a few thoughts with you. We, myself and DBF, arrived there on the 25th and left on the 1st. Our room was in Alligator Bayou in building 35. It was very far from the main house but it was a beautiful walk and we preferred our location than any others. We had a corner room with two big windows. What a difference the two windows makes! We walked the grounds quite a few times and we were not really impressed with the Mansion section. Alligator Bayou was so much more secluded and had lots more trees and provided much more privacy. The quiet pools were just that “quiet” while the mansion pool was a bit too overpopulated.
Along with the good there is usually some bad…here goes… We tended to get lost on almost every trip to the main house. What was nice was we got to see every inch of the resort. Bring your compass and a good pair of walking shoes! The walls are very thin. You could hear everything in the rooms next door and up stairs. We never had to set our alarm to get up because, like clock work, every morning around 7:15 you could hear every toilet in the building flushing one right after the other and these things are loud! At first it was funny but by day 4 it was annoying. I also came to realize that there was a small child that was staying in the room above us and apparently decided to get it’s exercise by running up and down the hall way in the morning. I was very surprised at how you could hear everything.
The busses were very good if you would go up to the main (South) bus stop. Many times we would get on the buses and they wouldn’t even go back to the other stops. Most of the time they were filled and didn’t have room but I was really glad we didn’t get lazy and use the closer bus stop. Our last day there, POFQ had opened and you could really see a difference in the bus loads. My suggestion. Plan on using the South Bus Stop in the mornings and using the other ones in the evenings. And plan on standing!

These are just a few points, I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about POR.
All in all it was a wonderful trip and we can’t wait to go again. I would definitely stay at POR again!

Hello! We were at the Mansions section the same time you were in AB!
Interesting to hear the differences. :)
Our walls/rooms were very quiet. I have learned to choose the top floor for the same reason you noted of what was annoying (running and jumping above).
I know a few times we had people in the room behind us and to our side. But everything was as quiet as could be. I don't think I heard a toilet from another flush at any time. And only once heard a minor voice next to us that lasted maybe two seconds.
The Mansion room we had did not have the turbo toilets, like ASMo did. Actually the opposite.
We also always used the South bus depot, but found the service Terrible.
I think our first time we had a 10 minute wait. After that, we were not the first at the depot and even then waited 20 - 35 minutes each time, and always had to stand and crowd and be crowded to get on the bus. :p
No organization at all at the POR bus stop, in our HO.

We too have stayed in the mansions several times and never heard a peep! We stay top floor. Never heard a flushing toilet nor a child nor ANYTHING! :D We felt very secluded, like we had the place to ourselves. Perhaps we did:p !

Well than it is my guess that it could be the turbo toilets that they have in AB. Those things scared me to even flush.

Ophyllia, Thanks for the report. I've been reading a lot about the terrible bus service POR has and it has me worried. I wish I could switch to another resort, but we have 5 in one room. How long would you say you waited for the buses? Was the bus service like this all day long or only during the busy times, like early in the morning and at night at closing?

Did you think the rooms needed a heavy cleaning or needed renovating?

Well to answer your question momto8, we had no problems with the bus service. I think we were having some good luck that week because every time we would get to the bus stop the bus we were looking for was right behind us. Please understand at no time were we right at the bus stop at park openings. We were usually there between 9:30 and 10:00. The afternoon and evening busses were no problem and often made the complete trip through the resort to all of the stops. Like I said in my earlier post, in the mornings use the South bus stop. I am very comfortable in telling you that the busses for us were no problem and the waiting was very, very minimal. The worse bus experience we had was at one of the Deluxe resorts where we waited 1 hour and 15 min for a bus to Pleasure Island from the Boardwalk.

Our room was wonderful. This was the first time I have stayed in a moderate resort. Typically we stay at WL or GFR. Our room was very clean and I didn't see amything that would suggest that it needed to be remodeled.

I honeslty think you will have a wonderful time at POR. POR has now become my resort of choice.

Did you happen to have a King Room? Can you tell me anything about this room type? I just reserved a King room at POR for our trip.

We did have a King room and it was wonderful. There seemed to be lots of space. The room was on the corner. I have read many threads that say all king rooms are on the corners but I do not know that for sure. Having the two big windows was nice. I have quite a few photos of the room if you would like to see them just PM me and I will forward them on to you.

I think you will be very happy with the king room. To be honest the bed was a little big for me. We could have fit a few extra people in there if we wanted to.:D

Ophyllia, this makes me feel a little better about the bus situation. I will allow more time if we are to be at the parks at opening. I'm not as worried about getting back to the room at park closing, but waiting over an hour for a bus especially at the end of the day can be very frustrating.

I'm glad to hear that you liked your room also. We are looking forward to going, so I'm sure we'll have a great time. I would rather be staying at an Epcot resort, but we are lucky to just be going on this trip, so I'm not complaining! I feel very fortunate.

Thanks!
:)
