Just back last nite, from our 2 1/2 week's at the Polynesian GV. We had a great time. Nice crowds and FANTASTIC CM's! Our only problems seemed to arise from other guest. :earseek: Which we where not going to let bother us. :wizard:

We had been delayed on our late flight so we got in extremely late, after 1am. But still recieved a great corner room in raroatonga 3rd floor quiet pool view. It was a nice location. Quick to bus, parking, laundry, GCH, etc.. & the pools. ;) We where very happy. But in the morning we find out we have heavily smoking neighbors in the non- smoking room. Not just on the balcony either. Definately in the room, our exhaust in the bathrooms where conected and it kept filling up our room with smoke. Both of us have asthma, this was not working. Stuck in out 2 days with alot of meds and I finally called the desk, they said they would "talk" with them. It did not improve got worse in fact. They seemed to spend a lot of time in the room smoking, not at the parks etc.. . Anyway we wind up having to move, I can no longer breath in this room, even thou I really do not want to part with this view. Everything I requested. :guilty:

The cm's tried to move us that nite and really worked on it, they where great but only could only offer us 2 unpopular rooms and we still had the bulk of our vacation to go. So we opted to wait out another nite and move in the morning. We got a voice mail at 7am and a manager had worked it out a different way and a "room" was now open. So up we got and moved to Tokelau! corner room, 1st floor, lagoon view. It was our 1st attempt at the 1st floor and really liked. There is a very noticeable difference in the size of the room from the 2 building also. Especially coming from 1 from another. Tokelau had an extra 3 feet on the side of the bed next to the bathroom when in raratonga you could barely walk between the wall and the bed. We also liked the bathroom set up better in tokelau. But the water pressure was terrible in the tub, ok in the shower but if you like the tub would still be filling it up for 2 hours. Now maybe it was a 1st floor issue, or the buildings issue, or being on the far ends issue don't know. We had absolutely NO problems otherwise in tokelau. We always worried that 1st floor would be noisy with people going to other floors etc... . but we never heard anyone in the hall. We heard more people on the 3rd floor going out the stairwell? Also I worried about the people upstairs footsteps or jumping noises, but we could not hear that either. Tokelau was very quiet.

Would like to thank the poster with the "over ride" for the AC. It worked wonderful! :wizard: But only in Raroatonga. Tokelau, our room had a dail thermostat and had not been updated to the "new" system. However; the AC would shut itself down each nite by the resort, that we could not control. (even thou we tried).

Also, Tikiman had mentioned "new" mattresses and pillows before I left, We had these in the rarotonga building but not in tokelau. And tokelau could use them. :earseek:

We had great mousekeeping in both buildings.

Construction is continuing but did not effect us at all. They construction people where as pleasant as any of the regular cm's are usually. They where very low key. Looked liked parts of rapa nui might be ready anytime now, they had the bottom all lighted and the rooms fixed but no one in them yet. Looked very soon. But they continue to work on figi, tavula, nuie, & rapa nui. With nuie closed not sure where "smoking" is now? But we walked through tahiti and they had alot of rooms of smoking and right across the hall from non-smoking, thought this was intresting, and not the usual way it is set up? Tikiman might know more about that, or might even of answered that question already while we where gone.

We had a really great time. ::MickeyMo And love the Poly!

It sounds like you had two great rooms. Too bad about the smoking.

Anything going on at Captain Cook's yet?

Hi Ericka,

Yes, we had a great time. :sunny: Thanks! No we did not see any changes at captain cook's or the GCH at all. Except: the roof leaking badly 1 day during the down pour, it was over near the front of where the "newstand" used to be. And just pouring in. They where right there taking care of it, but they had a crowd of "shocked" on lookers. :earseek: :grouphug: Who had just "checked in" I felt bad for the poly. We just happened to be coming from captain cooks and came around the corner. :umbrella: Never saw it again, so either it was fixed then or we never "timed" it again. Otherwise, the GCH, looked great! We loved the new store. princess: princess: And spent WAY too much (time?) in there. ;)

Well its alittle nice coming back to our cooler Illinois weather. ::MickeyMo ?

Hi again but I'm not Erika although I know she is now a fan of the Polynesian too.

Too bad about the leak. A CM told me that one of the hurricanes last year did damage to the roofline at the back of what was then News from Civilization. Is that area still empty or did Wyland Galleries move into it already?

Yes, the weather here has been beautiful although we desperately need rain don't we? So some consolation for the end of your trip.

I liked Boutiki as well. I thought I would miss the old shops but Boutiki is beautiful and has a nice variety still. I love the big wooden doors that face the back hall. Just wish newspapers were sold there or at CCs.

Ooops, jet lag

Wyland has moved in. We never went in to there previous location, not interested but there new spot next to c.c.'s you can see from the hall is very large and open, nice. Not sure if they are keeping all of that space forever but it is set up nice for now.

I don't know about the trick you mentioned with the air conditioning but I do know if you want to be able to set it lower you can call maintenance. We did this at BCV and they came right now and had it reset for us in 5 minutes. Such a nice guy too. All talkie, talkie about disney - it was a great way to start the trip.

:sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Thanks for the Poly info.

Too bad about the smokers. There is no excuse for smoking in a non-smoking room. The rooms should have smoke sensors in them like some bathrooms do.

Glad you managed to get through that part and have fun.

I agree. Those smokers should have received a fine or been forced to relocate to a smoking room. That is just so rude and inconsiderate!

That was me! Thank you for letting me know that it doesn't work in all buildings. It worked in Samoa but I hadn't tried it yet in the other buildings. Good to know about Raratonga as that is our second choice this trip! So did the AC shut off at night only in Tokelau? I am hoping that is what you mean because it stayed on all night in Samoa. We had problem smokers in Samoa the last trip. The smoke poured into our bathroom so we called down to the front desk and of course they told me they would talk to them. Didn't work though as we put uup with it a couple more days before they finally left. Glad everything worked out for you! Only 25 days to go and I will be back in paradise myself!

Thanks so much! :sunny: Yes, you can get it to work when it is the "motion" detector type (the new one). But our one in Tokelau was probably the original? It was not "shutting off" but maybe preset to a really hot overall setting for nite times? :confused3 Like in your house when the day is set to 72 and nite to 74. Even thou we could move the controls, I think they where for "show" they did not ever seem to corrallate with the thermostat. At least with the motion detector one, you can move around the room to get it going, here you where stuck. BUT we didn't spend that much time in the room. ;)

As far as our neighbors, the Polynesian stated, since it was my problem, I would be the one who would have to move, they could not do anything to them. Nor would they tell us how many more days they where staying. I said if its only 1 or 2 more days, I will just try to stay out of the room, and use my lysol can to the max, to get by, But if it would be a week more I would need to move, they said I can't say. So I said " if it was you, or your mother, would you encourage her to move, based on the information you know?" They said I can't answer that, I said just shake your head, they did. We moved. I feel somewhat bad for the smokers since Nuie is down for construction & I'm not sure what they are being offered, maybe that is why they are being mixed about, but I saw a lot of smokers on balcony's which is not that rare at the Poly, but we have never had an IN room problem before. Maybe that was our problem, I don't know. :confused3

Well hopefully we will be able to afford the Poly in the future, after the renovations. I am glad we got to stay in the "old" rooms once more. I really liked the rantan. :wizard: I'm afraid I will miss the old rooms. I remember when these where the "new" rooms ICK I'm getting old. :earseek: :hourglass

what is the work around on the motion sensor type termostats to keep them on during the night? I mean how do you do it?

I would also like to know this, since we're going there in about 3 weeks.

Funny but I left the instructions packed in my suitcase (in attic) so I would not lose it. But as I remember you hold down the down arrow simulateously with the on or off button until you get "bp" on the panel now you are on over ride! ;) And set you temp! It will run constant like your theromstat at home and not shut off if no movement. Just keep the temp steady in the room and not wake in the night > hot and sweaty :earseek: Works great. You can call engineering and they will do this for you BUT it does RESET itself back  in a couple of days and you would have to call them about every 2 days we found. So if your there for more than a few days it pays to do it yourself. It was very easy.

We just got back last week from 5 nights at the WL and 2 nights at the Poly. We also loved the Poly. I had a room that was a corner room on the 3rd floor facing the quiet pool. I had no problems with anything or anyone. One thing I was surprised about. Was around midnight. I was walking back to my room from the main building and their was some kids and their parents in the quiet pool. And they were definitely not being quiet. They were actually very loud. Now, besides it being the quiet pool. It was late and I am sure their were people trying to sleep. I am just amazed how some people never consider how their actions might affect others. :confused3

I believe you, the pools where extremely busy while we where there. It was also VERY hot. We didn't really notice the noise in our rooms thou.
