Table Service

San Angel Inn (Dinner)
We're really not sure why SAI gets so many bad reviews? Please don't be afraid...our experience there was great! Without requesting one, we were given a waterfront table, which was just magical. As others have said, know that you will be getting authentic Mexican food -- not the Americanized version. The Carne Asada was excellent! Order it! The fish tacos were just okay. The desserts were some of the best of the trip: the crema bavaria (if you love creme brulee don't miss it!) and the dulce de leche ice cream (sounded so average, but it's not)! The other two desserts are both very good as well, but not so exceptional.

Akershus (Breakfast)
The food alone is not worth the price, but the overall experience is excellent. Potato casserole is delicious. I think that the buffet-quality pastries at Disney are terrible, and I don't eat them, but the hot food and the Norwegian spread are quite good!

Chefs de France (Dinner)
The French Onion soup was the best part of this meal. If I go back, I would just order it -- and eat it with the baguette and butter! The onion flatbread was disappointing.

Crystal Palace (Breakfast)
Excellent as always. Don't miss Pooh's Breakfast Lasagne (with sounds unappealing and doesn't look much better), but is actually very, very good. It is a bread-pudding-type breakfast bread, with a layer of raspberries baked in, and a peach topping. Delicious! As mentioned above, I'm not a fan at all of the buffet-quality pastries at Disney, but the hot food makes this buffet great.

O'hana
Fabulous in every way. The food. The experience. Watching the chin's of the first-timers hit the table when they began to see the food rolling in...and then when they tasted it. And the bread pudding! I will be dreaming, dreaming, dreaming of it!

Tusker House (Breakfast)
Rivals O'hana as the best meal of our trip. Just outstanding. The juice alone is pratcially worth the price of the breakfast... ;) ...but the hot food, plus the fact that there were real Krispy Kreme donuts! It was even better than we remembered, and we're still talking about it. When you go, do try all of the African-inspired fare....including the chutneys over on the cold spread. Everything is very, very good!

50s Prime Time Cafe
Ugh. A bit undecided about this. I love the theming, which is why we went, but I wish the menu were a bit different. The fried chicken is notably good (and I'm picky about fried chicken), the grilled mahi-mahi was excellent, the salmon ceasar was good. I guess it's the desserts that seem to cheapen the whole place. If you're tempted, like me, to order a milkshake with dinner, you're kind of stuck when it comes to dessert, as every dessert is an ice cream dessert...except for the s'mores...which were okay, but not great. The apple crisp was terrible! Cheap apple filling straight out of a can, with barely a sprinkling of dry oatmeal topping. I would not go back.

Counter/Quick Service

Columbia Harbor House
Great! Fried shrimp are very good quality and delicious! Grilled salmon with couscous was great. Excellent use of QS credit!

Starring Rolls
Unimpressed. After reading reviews on here, I was excited. But, as it turned out, everything seemed to be cheap buffet-quality pastries. We did not try the cupcakes. The sandwiches, however, were very good.

Boulangerie Patisserie
Excellent! Ideal use of snack credits! Chocolate mousse, napolean, and fruit tart were excellent! (Creme brulee -- which I love and am picky about -- was not good -- and neither was the chocolate cake.)

I've posted a quick review of our park experiences here, if you'd like to read those as well!

Thanks for posting!

I'm a little confused about your review of Starring Rolls though. You said that everything seemed to be cheap buffet quality pastries, which doesn't sound like you actually tasted them... then you said you didn't taste the cupcakes but the sandwiches were good. How does this deserve "unimpressed"?

Also wondering about the 50's review - read like the meal was great but you didn't care for dessert. Why not go back and just not order dessert? :confused3

Good questions! Thank you!

I'm a little confused about your review of Starring Rolls though. You said that everything seemed to be cheap buffet quality pastries, which doesn't sound like you actually tasted them... then you said you didn't taste the cupcakes but the sandwiches were good. How does this deserve "unimpressed"?

I should have been more clear. I tasted the following: the chocolate eclair, the croissant, the apple-craisin turnover, and the chocolate chip cookie. These were all disappointing to me, in that they were of the quality you would find at the Disney buffets or at the grocery store. If you like grocery-store quality pastries, you have no worries, you will like these! If you typically buy your pastries at a speciality bakery, these breakfast pastries will probably not be of the quality you are expecting. As I said, I did not try the cupcakes -- so maybe those are what earn Starring Rolls its good reviews. And, yes, the sandwich was good, but I chose to use the word "unimpressive", because simply having a decent turkey sandwich on the menu does not, to me, make a restaurant "impressive."

I also should have mentioned that we use the Disney Dining Plan, so for a restaurant to work really well for us, we'd like to have great entree options, paired with great dessert options. Therefore, we probably wouldn't go back to 50s. It was fine. Nothing complaint-worthy...also nothing to rave about. I loved the theming, but the whole package just didn't come together for me. You'll find some good food options here if you want to try it, though!

Hope this helps my reviews be more helpful to you! If you have other questions, just let me know!

Thanks for the review! We're going to be eating at several of the places you went to - San Angel Inn, Tusker House, 'Ohana and Crystal Palace.

Also, thanks for letting me know the breakfast lasagne is still available at CP. I have great memories of this menu item from our last trip.

Great review, we're going to Crystal Palace and Tusker House both for breakfast.

Skipper Justin, We shared the vegetable lasagne at Les Chefs, which was good -- but we didn't try the duck! Hope you enjoy!
