Just back: Mixed codes/coupons w/ Alamo

I just got back

I had 2 cars reserved w/ Alamo. 8 days + 3 hours
1. Full Size 122.00. I used the Walmart code 430710 w/ rate code BY and coupon d24c

2. Midsize SUV 136.00. Walmart code 430710 w/ rate code BY and coupon ad94 which was expired.

I had no problems at all mixing the above code w/ the coupons. I did not have to give the agent anything. The girl who checked us in actually said "wow you got a great rate. what codes did you use so I can tell my friends?"

Unfortunately I had to pay 10.00/ day to upgrade to a full size SUV b/c my DH and dad decided to bring their golf clubs at the last minute and there was no way we could squeeze 2 golf bags, 3 large suitcase, a big cooler and 4 carryons into a Grand prix or a Chevy Equinox. We ended up w/ a trailblazer which was pretty banged up but it was either that or a trailblazer that smelled like a wet dog.

Thanks for posting. I have been checking the boards daily because I couldn't remember when you got back. I have a reservation using the Wal-Mart code and Entertainment coupon and I'm relieved to hear that you didn't have any problems!

Thanks Mark. I was unsure whether I was eligible for the Contract ID that showed up on your link but I found out the d24c rate code is what Alamo considers an "E coupon". I used it with my original Walmart code and it was accepted and gave me an additional $15 off and lowered my rate for a premium car from $181 to $163 for the week because the discount caused the taxes to be a little lower as well,. Thank you for replying.

Did you have to wait in line long to get your car? Was it easy dropping the car back off at the end of your trip?

We waited about 20 minutes, there were 2 people in front of us. The line behind us was HUGE. I highly suggest having someone get in line while the other people are waiting for the luggage.

We also had no trouble with mixing codes/coupons. But one word of advice regarding gas: when we picked up the car we noticed that the tank was not quite full but no big deal. We filled the car on the way to the airport and the gauge didn't seem to be all the way over, and we weren't surprised. The attendant who checked in the car charged us $5.99 for gas. I was in no mood to argue. Just a warning.

I actually ended up using the two walmart codes.. with D42C which takes 15$ off the weekly rate and includes one additional driver. I rented a full size for 110.16 with one additional driver including.. taxes & fees.

That's excellent news! The current "Last Minute Deals" just inspired me to reserve a midsize using the Walmart code and the coupon. $114.55 including tax for seven days! Hope my check-in goes as smoothly as yours!

I just called Alamo and used ALL the codes above...and still the best rate I could get on Alamo was with AAA.

The reservationist told me once you use AAA no other offers can be combined, except the UPGRADE code for Master Card. Even so with the other codes & no AAA it came out to only 20.00 more!

I did get a Trailblazer (plenty of room...and I will be driving alot...Tampa one day, Kennedy Space center another) for total (inc Taxes) 311.11 for 10 days.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I think you can probably get a better rate. I am paying $90.88 for 5 days, mid-size SUV, using Wal-Mart code and D24C (Entertainment online) coupon. It may be that rates have gone way up since I made my reservation, but I would still keep checking. Many people have posted that as they get closer to their travel times their rates went way down.
