Hi all! Just back from our trip of 8 days!

First of all I would like to say that the following is just our opinion. and should in no way be taken as a bash against the Pop Century resort. The rooms there were very nice, but it just wasn't for us at all.

We flew in on American last Friday and used Magical Express ( I will put up a review of this service on the Transportation Boards, but we loved it!) and arrived at Pop at about 3:30pm after a 2:15pm landing. Not bad. We waited in line about 10 minutes to check in-also not bad. We went to the food court for a bite to eat (it was practically empty), bought 4 refillable mugs, and then headed to our connecting 2 rooms. We had paid for the preferred rooms, but these rooms were further away then some of the other bulidings. I knew this would probably be the case before we went, so I was not too bummed about it. One room had a king bed and was handicapped accesible, and the other was the double double room. Also fine. My son and husband went for a walk and saw some cool turtles in the lake. The pool was a little crowded.

Then the next day it all went downhill. The food court was totally packed, the pool was packed, and the lines for the buses (that have NO shade over them in the 90 degree humid Florida heat) were long and crowded. We packed ourselves onto a bus(after waiting over 20 minutes) and stood for the ride to the studios. Then when we came out of the park we stood for the ride back to Pop. When we got back there the food court was jam packed again, people everywhere and not a table to be seen. We went back to the rooms and hung out and tried to go to bed by 10, but there were screaming kids out at the pool until we finally fell asleep after 1am. We don't know how late they were out there but they were still going strong when we fell asleep even though the pool was supposedly "closed". The next day it was more of the same. We had some room charging issues as well, but concierge was either closed or unable to help every time I needed something so I had to wait for the front desk each time. The lines both times I waited were over 20 minutes each time. At this point we were really sick of the packed buses, crowded food court and pool loudness, so we called CRO and booked Wilderness Lodge. 1 room was about equal to what we were paying for the 2 rooms at POP ($25 a night more) so we switched the next day. When we told Pop we were switching to Wilderness Lodge because we were not enjoying our stay, they did not even ask why. They just said ok, we will transfer over your portfolio. That was that.

We moved to a bunk bed room with a standard view at WL and it was great! Shade over the bus areas, we never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus either at the parks or the resort, and sometimes the buses were one right behind the other! Our room was nice and quiet and even had some Disney Magic since we could see Wishes from our room!! All in all the switch was the best thing we could have done and really made the last 5 nights enjoyable. We loved everything about WL and would not hesitate to stay there in a second and we will avoid the value resorts from now on. They are fine if you don't mind all the people, but we just did not enjoy the "cattle call" feeling Pop gave us. Look for my trip report for all the extra details about both resorts!!

::MickeyMo We were extremely disappointed with the Pop as well! I'm glad it wasn't just us becaus a majority seems to love it! ::MinnieMo

Prime example why I feel I've made the right decision to stay at BWV (using DVC rent points for $90/night) instead of paying almost the same at a value resort (we were thinking of POP also). So glad you changed and could enjoy your last few nights!

Looking forward to your trip report!! :earsgirl:

hi all,
i guess it has a lot to do where you come from.we live in nyc so i used to alot of noise and crowded area all the time at home so when at pop i guess i'm just used to it.you should not have to worry about being flamed because you did'nt like pop.no big deal its cool.and i can understand where some might not care for pop.if anyone flames you let me know.i am the fdny and will put any and all flames out.glad you enjoyed your trip.have a great night and enjoy writing those trip reports.

You will LOVE BWV! We always rent points and we love the DVC resorts! This was a last minute trip so we could not do that this time-but you defintiely made the right choice!! We will always rent points from now on if we do not join DVC, and WL will be our resort of choice when paying rack rate for a room. We are hoping to try the WLV next time we rent points!

Um, unless something drastic happened in the last few weeks, the bus area at Pop IS covered. Disney really can't be responsible for the direction of the sun.

Carrieberry, no flames from me, either. I like the Pop Century, but I like lots of other resorts, too (20 and counting ;) ).

I am happy that you went ahead and switched over to a resort that was better suited for your family. That was an excellent move and it sounds like you had a wonderful vacation.

By the way, welcome home!

The section that sits next to the main building is indeed covered. However, the queue area along the curb is not.

I hope that helps.

Janet2K is right. There are covered benches BEHIND where the que lines are set up, but if you are lined up in the que waiting for the bus, they are not covered. The covered benches are not part of where the chains for the lines are. Just like at WL the benches are under the cover but the value resorts are the only ones that have the cattle call chains for people to line up in-with no cover over them.

A young cousin of mine was married this June and she and her new hubby did WDW for their honeymoon. They stayed at Pop. Not so great... Very crowded, which I expected, but more troubling was BUGS. She says the room had roaches, and she felt they were the "gross" ones and NOT Palmetto bugs that had accidentally wandered in. The nice man who came to spray (more than once!) basically said that laws which limit pesticides mean that it is hard to keep the critters under control. EEEEEW!

I have NEVER seen a roach in over 30 years of visiting WDW, not even in the "rustic" cabins of Fort Wilderness. I also have only stayed Mod and occasional Deluxe. I think the Values just pack too many people in together, and this leads to problems you have mentioned -- crowds at food court, pools and buses -- and yes, even BUGS.

Glad you enjoyed the Lodge. We love it there! Next time if you KNOW you are going there, you can try for a discount and it will be an even better deal!

Over the years, and with each successive visit, we've gradually 'upped' our resort level.

When our kids were very young we stayed at All Star Sports. That was the first, and when we went it had just recently opened and was the only All Star resort there. It was perfect for our family...inexpensive and with a pool and food court that suited our toddler and infant just fine.

Next visit...All Star again. Oldest in 1st grade, youngest only 3.

Next visit...POR (Dixie Landings then!). We wanted a better pool area and bicycle rentals available to us, as both our kids were now in elementary school. Paying a little more for the extra amenities made sense.

Our most recent trip, we graduated yet again to the WL. We had visited there during our POR stay for a character breakfast at Artist Point, and I was amazed at how beautiful it was. My husband saw how I loved it, and promised our next visit would be there.

So...with a young teen and 'tween', we stayed 8 nights in August. It was the perfect home for us, as we knew this trip we'd spend more time relaxing and enjoying the resort than ever before. I can't wait to go back.

The value resorts were perfect for us...at one time. Now? I can't imagine staying there again. They just don't have enough of what I want in a Disney vacation now.

I feel your pain, I just wish we'd have thought to change hotels mid trip. Oh well, I know better for next time!

Glad you had a great trip. WL is our favorite resort.........but even WL isn't for everyone, just like POP. But I'm happy WL "saved" your vacation. Nothing is more of a bummer when you do all that planning and things don't seem to be working out. Glad it ended up more than OK.

And I have been on these boards long enough to know every resort has had it's share of bad/good reviews. People are not the same, so they are not going to like the same resorts..........thank goodness, otherwise it would be hard for all of us to get into the same resort. :teeth:

Thanks for the review. :wave2:

I AGREE! The difference of the resorts is what makes WDW such an enjoyable place for all. We had previously styaed as ASmo and enjoyed it, which made me think Pop would be fine. We have stayed The Poly, ASMo, PO French Quarter and Riverside (when it was DxL), Old Key West, Beach Club, AKL and now Pop and WL. Pop was by far the worst for us, but we encountered people while we were there that were enjoying there stay. As others have said, not every resort is appropriate for all, and if it meant staying at Pop or staying off site, I would choose to stay onsite. We also did see a lot of bugs-though thankfully not in the room!

Hahahaha.......this is off the topic, but I must say that if I were the tag fairy this response would have gotten you a new one:if anyone flames you let me know. I am the fdny and will put any and all flames out. :wizard: Who knows, maybe I'll see this tag under your name yet.

We'll be staying at Pop for two nights before we move into the BCV on our trip in a couple of weeks. We are looking forward to it so we'll see how it goes. We drive everywhere at WDW so the buses won't be an issue for us. I love the lobby area and reminiscing with the items posted on the walls. The rooms seem a bit corny so I am not sure what to expect there. But again, I am always open for something new.

I just returned on Friday from Wilderness Lodge Villas (rented ponts). After 2 previous vacations at All Stars this was definitely a great treat.

Please don't misunderstand - the ammenities and convenience of any Disney resort are great and I know that everyones personal preferences go accordingly to what they can afford....but......I have to say it was sure nice not having to go to the last (end of the line) bus stop for All Stars at the end of a long day!!

I am the notorious pop cheerleader and I won't flame you. We love POP for a variety of reasons but we also love WL, AKL, Poly, CR, CBR, PO etc. It is agonizing for us each trip to choose because the experiences are all great and different. We end up choosing 2 rooms at POP most of the time because 2 rooms are more private and have 2 baths for the group that goes. We love the foodcourt and time our meals there to avoid crowds. We also never wait in lines at parks or stand up on our way TO parks because we are old hands.

As a single mom I have learned to avoid trouble when I can and enjoy things in spite of problems with them. WL is beautiful and fun and one of our favorites. We love pop because we love the nostalgia of things forgotten, the private spot we have in the food court, the nice cm's, the lake for a value resort, the quiet pools and the lounge.

:cheer2: I chuckle at friends who hate DW because they sleep late and hate the long lines for buses, the crowded food courts and when they arrive at MK at 12 there are lines for splash mt. I try to tell them timing is everything.

We love WL! Glad you had a great time there. Plus, I had to say I love your avatar Carrieberrie!

I didn't have any problem with POP... but we did the same thing you did. It was raining.. thunderstorm and we couldn't enjoy anything but to stay in the room.. well... we decided to leave POP and went to WL. Even though it was raining... we were still able to enjoy the resort because everything is in one roof, except of course the pool. I was still able to enjoy the outside by watching from the balcony. And I don't have to worry getting wet to get to the food court or to the shop, cause everything is in one bldg.

Now that I have stayed at the WL, Poly, and POFQ, CSR and CBR... it would be really hard for me to stay at any value resorts again.
