Well, my 3 year long trip planning for WDW has come and gone.
We were SO excited to have gotten a chance to stay at the Poly Concierge! I was SO excited to have had a few surprised planned for my family. My mom came with as her first trip to WDW at 57 and it was the first trip for my 3 1/2 year old son. The surprises I had planned were not elaborate but they were intended to be fun anyway. I had been in contact via e-mail and verbally for months in advance, most correspondece coming in the last week. All I had asked for was for a bean bag chair size Stitch to be in the room with 3 dozen laytex Mickey balloons. I gave orders that if they couldn't find that size of Stitch to get a BIG Mickey. So we arrived at the hotel at 3pm, check in time. We got one sory when we got there that our room wasn't ready and would be for sure in a hour. THEN we went to the concierge desk in an hour and they weren't done yet...half an hour they said. SO.....round about 4:30 we finally got our room. I was excited...I went into the room last because I wanted to see their reactions to what I had had done.. Well, I didn't hear anything. So I peeked past my family and saw...NOTHING! I immediately called the desk and asked about the surprise...they were clueless. I heard them call up my account on computer and they stumbled as they said that they hadn't the time to get it up to the room and they would be up with it shortly. OK. 30 minutes later, someone came to the room with a shopping plastic bag with a normal sized Stitch in it and ONE balloon tying the bag shut! HOW TACKY WAS THAT?!?!?!?
When I looked at her in obvious disappointment and said that it was supposed to be several dozen balloons and a LARGE Stitch, she just looked at me. Offered no apology, no offer to check to see what went wrong...nothing. Just a glare. Of course, I was VERY upset. MONTHS of planning and doing everything I could all to have people that were supposed to make thtings magical, be FAR less than cordial. In fact, the staff with the exception of 2 were quite rude. I even had one tell me on the phone that it was nt in the concierge's policy to get us boxes to ship...when I had had someone tell me the night before they would do that no problem. She got VERY snippy with me, said I don't know who you talked to but it's not our and cut me off. All I had to do was go to the shop inside the hotel and ask for boxes. they were free. How much effort was that for them?!?!?! As you all know, time is of the serious essence in many vacations and since we pay them for the concierge...I thought I should try to use it. Anyway...My husband as I went to the resorts front desk rather than the con. and a VERY nice man the name of Lyn helped us tremendously. After explaining our story, I started to cry...I couldn't help it. He was SO sweet, he said he'd talk to the con. manager and try to get things taken care of. Good to his word, when we returned, there were about 2 dozen balloons, a bottle of sparkeling wine with 2 glasses, and a plate with "Congratulations" written in chocolate on it with a bride and groom Minnie and Mickey. That latter part was from my telling them in my itinerary planner that my husband and I were celebrating our 10 year anniversary 1 1/2 years late (as we had cancelled last year due to serious illness of my grandmother). So that was very nice but I was still disappointed but my family wasn't since they didn't really know what they were missing. BUT...we moved on with the vacation. OH, the other easy thing I aslked to be a surprise was to have coffee at our door in the morning by 7am for my mom. Nope, nothing. We DID get our one request to be on the second floor close to the lounge but that was it.
I'll try to post a trip report in the next week. I can get into more detail then. But in MHO, te POY concerige is NOT close to worth it! Our 3 days we stayed at eth GF concerige 4 years ago WAS worth it. So it's not a matter of being cheap or frugal, it's a matter of getting a llittle more than what you would get in the regular resort rooms. BUT...Mousekeeping....was STELLAR!!!! Just GREAT!
OH, and may I express my disappointment at their serious lack of handicap parking?!?!?! If you want a spot, you're lucky to get one less than half of the time, of you have to use valet parking. Nice. We went at the slowest time, I would HATE to see it at busy times! Parks on the otherhand were great.
Sorry to be a downer but it's the way the cookie crumbled for me and I have to share. Dores nayone know a quick way to e-mail or mail a letter to the concierge manager of the Poly or someone else? This wort of stuff is just wrong. When I didnt' want to talk to the conc. people at the front desk because they were snippy and rude, that isn't good. I'm NOT a confrontational person or even someone that expects the world for a few pennies, I just expected specific things asked for and PAID for in addition to be done. I'll never do the Poly again after that. It was my second experience there and the first wasn't great either but I just thought that might have been a fluke and that wasn't in a concierge room.
sigh
Good luck to all.
