Here's my Kona review - enjoy!
We almost ate here twice in one trip - the first night we had reservations at 'Ohana at 8pm, but somehow we got it in our heads that we had Kona ressies at 6:30. When we went to check in at Kona, not surprisingly they had no record of our ressie. They were about to just let us in anyway (it wasn't crowded) when we checked the ressie sheet and noticed our mistake. Whoops!
Anyhoo, we returned on the correct night and had a wonderful meal! Apps were the crab cakes, pot stickers and Kona chowder. The crab cakes were good, but they were a little light on the crabmeat this time. I remember being overwhelmed with crabmeat last time we ordered these. Still good though. The pot stickers were great - the filling is meaty and substantial and the sauce has a little zing to it. The chowder was creamy and mellow and loaded with seafood. Very delicious.
Main courses were filet medallions for the boy and Beef Teriyaki for the rest of us. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the sweet sauce was lip-smackin' good! All sopped up by the mashed potatoes - yum.
I've always thought that they desserts at Kona were a cut above and they proved it again this time. We had fantastic pecan pie a la mode, creme brulee and the apple brown betty. All were great, with the slight edge going to the creme brulee for sentimental value (it's served a lot in restaurants in New Orleans that are now closed since the hurricane)
Service was unintrusive and responsive, maybe a little too responsive - they may have been rushing the meal just a tad, but not enough to bum us out or anything. We'll definitely be back!
