First off- Uncleromulus had a Kidney Stone attack the very first night of the trip!! Came out of nowhere, hurt as much as they say it does:goodvibes
One 7 hour and one 4 hour visit to Celebration Hospital's ER (where the treatment, staff and facility were just great) kept me on my feet and so we did get 4 out of 7 dinners in. Did miss Citrico's, Il MUlino, and Raglan Road.
Anyway--Uncleromulus Kids-O-meter rating for the restaurants:
California Grill- 6 from 8:00 until 9:00, then 3 after that
Flying Fish-3
V&A-0
Wolfgangs' Fine Dining-2
Note: On the Kid's -o -Meter a 7 year old's birthday party at Chucky Cheese would rate a 10. V&A would get a 0
As for clothes--the dress code was not enforced ANYWHERE. Even at V&A two gentlemen actually took off their jackets while eating!! I'd say that at least 80% of all diners were more or less in code. I saw no swimwear, torn clothes, tank tops (on men--plenty on women tho) and no hats (on men--some women had them tho). Saw a # of t-shirts (no collar) on men and women.
I took special note of shorts and shoes. In addition to "dress shorts", I saw cargo shorts, gym shorts, short-shorts, and even a few pairs of dungaree shorts. Flip flops and sandals actually seemed to outnumber all other kinds of footwear. A few men had on jeans that would do justice at a construction site.
Reviews of the restaurants coming once I attend to the usual "coming home" details!!

My husband had a kidney stone attack at MGM! They had to take him by ambulance to Celebration. What a nice hospital! They did take great care of him there, but he hardly remembers the trip because of the percocet they gave him until the stone passed (three days!).

I am so sorry to hear about your unscheduled 'behind the scenes' tour of the ER.

Kidney Stones are major pain. I had one a few years ago and it hurt more than you can imagine, well, not you cuz wel,, you had one, but YKWIM

Glad you were able to recover some of the trip and can't wait to read your reviews.

Welcome home!

I have had KSs 2 times flying back from MCO. I carry Percocets with me and know know when to take them for the pain. I've had them so many times it's not even funny (not in the past 2 years Knock on wood).

I'm glad it didn't ruin your trip as I know that pain and lack of being able to ge rid of it all to well.

As for the Dresscode it's like everything else at Disney , some CMs don't want to stir the pot and get reported for anything negitive so they just turn a blind eye.

We arrive on the 2nd so we will see how the new resort smoking ban plays out as well.

Welcome back Uncle R! I am so sorry to hear about your kidney stone...OUCH! I am glad you were able to enjoy a majority of your trip. I sure was looking forward to your IM review, though. I keep hearing not-so-good reviews and wanted your opinion. Can't wait to hear the other eviews, though!

sorry to hear about the kidney stones.:guilty:

So, I am bringing my 2 DD's to CG in 2 weeks, ages 14 and 6. Why did the rating change after 8-9? I scheduled it for 6pm so no one will be cranky. This was DD14's idea by the way.:cutie:

Now as far as dress code, we will be in MK that day and staying at AKL, I am concerned we won't make it back to the lodge to change so we will wear collared shirts and nice shorts to the park. Will we feel out of place?

How long was the meal?:hourglass

Thanks

Kidney stones? :scared: Big bummer! I am glad you got good care at the Celebration hospital, and that your entire trip wasn't a bust. As always, I am looking forward to your reviews.

PolyAddict: I haven't a clue why all the kids seemed to leave at 9:00. At 8:00, there was hardly a table w/o any children. By 9:00, many had left. There were several large family tables with about 5-6 kids each right near us, so when they all left, it was a lot more quiet instantly. Also saw at least 2-3 infants in highchairs in the restaurant. Most unusual. There are always kids, but never seen that many in all prior trips.
You won't be out of place in the parks in nice shorts and short sleeve collared shirt. In fact, it's exactly what I had on the day we went to the AK.
Our meal was almost exactly 2 hours long--we do get drinks, apps and dessert along with the meal.

OH NO! I am so sorry to hear this, Uncleromulus! But Im glad your whole tirp wasn't ruined.

Thanks for the report so far and I look forward to reading your reviews. I think you need to go back soon at least to eat at Il Mulino though. I was so looking forward to your opinion.

I was really looking forward to that place. Unfortunately, it was scheduled for Monday night and at that time, I was still in stupor-land due to the meds. But we're going again in December, so then for sure!!
PS--My replacement meal for Il Mulino was a hotdog from Goods To Go at OKW. Worst hotdog I think I've ever eaten (or, 1/4 eaten). Big--and utterly tasteless.

My husband takes a medication that causes him to pass kidney stones every two years or so. They can't change his meds. because he is an epilepsy patient. That's just a side effect we have to deal with.

We drove down to WDW from West Monroe, Louisiana which was a 16 hour drive. He was fine all the way there. The first morning at Disney, he woke up in excrutiating pain. He stayed in the bed (or over the toilet throwing up) for a day and a half. On day 3, he decided to try the parks. Sure enough all the walking helped him pass not one, not two but three kidney stones!

Last year, he woke up with an abscessed tooth. Thank goodness we had brought along antibotics (just in case he got a kidney stone and an infection). The first day, his face was so swollen he looked like the Elephant Man. On day two, the swelling went down and he was able to meet up with us just in time to eat at LeCellier. (He ordered soup!) Day three, we were up and going full speed.

Because of his epilepsy and all the 36 pills he takes a day, most doctors and dentists are afraid to treat him. Thank goodness we have a super nice neurologist and dentist here in our hometown.

I always tell him if anything is gonna happen it's gonna happen to him!

So sorry you had to experience kidney stones on what should have been a great start to a vacation. At least you found really good doctors and nurses and were able to salvage some of your time!

Lisa

Thanks for the insight on CG. WOW!! 2 hours. Maybe we can keep it to 1 1/2. I know DD6 will be ok the 1st hour but then it may be down hill after that!!!!:scared1:

Sorry to hear about the Kidney Stone! DH swears by drinking beer, says he's never had a stone yet!! (I think it is just an excuse to drink beer, though!)

Looking forward to your report!

Did all the kids leave after Wishes? I figure most families time it with that and leave shortly thereafter. I think that the dress code issue is with CMs that don't want to jeopordize their job to call people on it. Which is frustrating all the way around.

Sorry about your visit to the Celebration hospital =(

I'll look forward to your reviews!

Uncle R- I'm so sorry. Stones are bad enough, bit an attack away from home must be close to unbearable. I'm glad that you are better now.

We have had dinner at CG twice, both times with our DGD. The server provided her with crayons and a large sheet of paper. He was pretty watchful to make sure that she was not fading. Our meals were over two hours, but we had a fairly large group and although we did not ask, the server timed our meal so that we watched Wishes during the break between dessert and coffee. Just let your server know that you would like to keep your meal to 90 minutes and I bet it will happen.

Ouch! Not the best start to your trip but at least it wasn't ruined completely.

Looking forward to your reviews :)

Sorry about the kidney stone.....I have been to Celebration Hospital on my vacation and admitted to the hospital... I did not like that at all, I finally checked myself out and said I would follow up at home...glad that yours had a relatively happy ending and hope you are mending and going to your own doctors at home..

Cannot wait to read your trip report.. welcome back..

Um, for those of us who have "known" and loved Uncleromulus for years--I would say if the beer prevention worked--he would NEVER develop a stone!!!
