This trip was my pregnant dw, my dd4 and dd1, we added a few days a week before out trip and got 2 nights at OKW and stayed in the 5600 building. This was our first trip to OKW in 3 years and wow we really enjoyed it. We drove from Chicago and arrived to a ready room at 11 am. We were within walking distance of a pool and the first bus stop. We stayed in a newly refurbished room 1 bedroom which was great, very large and spacious. Enjoyed the seperate laundry room and tv hidden in island in kitchen. Only had one problem which was while one night the rest of the family went to sleep I wandered to pool by myself and there were 6-8 adult only groups around and 1 family with 3 little ones who were pretty well behaved but had a break down on the way out and when they left the other guests absolutely trashed the family, kids, and parenting of that family which was a little disappointing. Also did not like not having an elevator to bring my bags and stroller up and down stairs.
Than moved onto the Wilderness for 8 nights, checked in at noon and had a room for us. Gotta say I have only stayed 1 night before there and didnt get a feel for the resort but have to say that this is an exceptional place to stay. Love the decor, dining, staff, pool options, location, and transportation options. We will definately be going back. Did not have one negative issue at all.
Heat was a little much and tons of scavenger hunters running about but we did not wait more than 30 mintes for an attraction. Did everything we wanted to do.
We drove and have to say it was wonderful with little ones being from park to room in less than 30 minutes, except for MK which was like 40 but we used boat most times from WL.
We also went over with friends to AKL the kidani side and have to stay havent stayed since opening week and ate at BOMA and have to say they did a great job and think we will be giving it another shot.
We had a very above and beyond moment with a DVC rep so I called to give a compliment and also called to give a compliment and wrote an email about wilderness staff member who was great. Called member services and asked for a manager and first they asked what was wrong which sounds like they get more complaints than compliments. Got talking to a manager for about 15 minutes and she informed me about some of the reputations resort owners have with the staff. Like OKW owners are usually older owners and complain a little more and the families complain about the rudeness of other OKW owner. And AKV owners seem to be younger with very little one have the hardest time understanding and using all of their membership points and perks.
