Just back from Boardwalk.
It was hot (mid 90's) with unusually low humidity. Much more crowded at the parks than I expected for the last week of May.
CM at check in was proper but not friendly. No magic there at all. But nothing really negative either.
Our preassigned room was not ready when we got there at 9am. Steve said they were FULL the previous night so no alternate rooms available. We called back intermittently from the pool and it was ready at 3pm.
The pool was full but not "capacity." EVERY chair was taken by a towel when we got there at about 11am. Only about 10% of the chairs had actual people in them at any given time.
We had a nice standard view overlooking the entryway -- a tree in front of the balcony partially obscured the noise and cars. We got both requests -- near elevator and no smoking. 4073 and 4075 together as a 2BR. I wouldn't mind staying there again or any of the other standard views with comparable views. Could see the highest Illuminations fireworks.
Called for dishwasher repair and maintenance was there within 10 minutes -- I kid you not. No other problems with the room other than my kids kept it a mess!
The sofa beds were rated as uncomfortable by my teenagers. Our king size was comfortable but nothing special. I found the condo space ample but not as generous as OKW, although I wouldn't avoid BWV because of that point. (We have 7.)
Nary a bed bug nor ANY pest to be seen. VERY clean and well maintained room.
We did three park days, but not a lot of rides. We mixed and matched but did one full day at Epcot mostly walking around watching people and the goings on at the Garden Show. A wonderful day! Our best family meal of the trip was at Garden Grill. The magic was there. You can't make it happen -- it just happens once in a while. We will all remember that wonderful meal -- probably when the rest of the trip is forgotten.
Went to the butterfly release and our two middle aged (6 and 9) caught ladybugs and butterflyies and even one small bird in the little garden and we had to pull them away after a half hour.
We went back to Epcot another night and got front row in the sit down section -- right at the railing -- for Illuminations and it was well worth the 2 hour wait. It was probably my 5th or 6th time to see Illuminations and being in that spot made it a whole new experience. It was very nice to be able to saunter over from the BWV.
My favorite time of the trip was watching Spectro and Wishes from the train station -- a privilege we paid for dearly with a LONG wait. Again well worth it.
We enjoyed walking the Boardwalk at night and found you can get a pretty decent view of Wishes from there, over the Yacht and Beach Clubs. The place was bustling.
My favorite DVC resort is STILL the resort I'm staying in at the time. Everyone needs to check out BWV. It is wonderful. I don't know what I'll do tomorrow morning without my 7am walk onto the boardwalk for donuts and crumb cake and coffee.
I hope to post more specifics later on restaurants and the parks.
One other thing -- there was an available Illuminations cruise one day. It was posted at the Community Center. We had just seen Illuminations so we didn't reserve it. They told me that cancellations are posted there sometimes and at the marina between Yacht Club and the Boardwalk. If you really want to get a cruise and missed the reservation, you can call the marina every day while you're there. Maybe you'll get it.
