Just back from West Coast Cruise - any questions?

Lisa- I would agree with you. Based upon my experience, once I took the dramamine I felt fine. Definently take your seasickness pill ahead of time (before boarding the Marigalante), it will be a blessing! Have a great time on this excursion!

Thanks!!!! That's what my plan is...to take the dramamine about 1 hour before...and also bring some for the return trip (can't remember how long the dosage lasts).

We're thinking of the Pirate Ship excursion! Did you all reserve through DCL or on your own? How did you get in/out of the speed boat to the beach? Do you have to climb over the side or something :goodvibes is there a ladder? I don't mind getting wet, I just don't want to look like a fool (or a beached whale) since I need to lose a little weight. :earboy2:

The seasick medicine from Guest Services.....does it make you sleepy?

Thanks for all the info!
Sherry

DareTooDream- Yes you have to climb out of the speed boats...and no there is no ladder available...but there are plenty of Pirates!!.. :rotfl2: ....they were really great helping everyone get off the speed boat and board the speed boat.

Was on the 6/4 trip and would like to echo some of the others' comments. I got so much great info from this board that I would like to share something I wish I had known.

At the end of the trip, my 4 1/2 daughter thought the PV Pirate Trip was her favorite thing because of the beach and the activities (especially the banana boat ride).

However, 1 1/2 hours into the trip, she was crying in the men's bathroom on the boat which had 2 of the 3 toilets backed up because she said she wanted to go home. My whole family was so motion sick and cold on the trip to the beach that we skipped the breakfast and thank god. We were on the upper deck (the worst for motion sickness) and there were two babies on the trip that threw up right next to us from motion sickness and the breakfest (food quality was good though). If I had known about this ahead of time, the whole family would have been properly medicated before we got on the pirate ship (0 motion sickness problems on the Magic even in rough seas on the last day). The other problem was that during the very long and entertaining show (from what we could see from our vantage point) the bathrooms were closed which didn't help the sick people very much.

Also, as someone else said, this is a real old sailing ship which is very authentic but can be seen as a little rundown and dirty after coming off the near perfection of the Disney Magic.

I thought all the pirates did a good job and were very nice, and the beach, while crowded, was fun. Not necessarily warning folks off though since all in all, it was a good time.

Sja1234---we missed you being a part of our DIS group. Be sure and join up next time. It was so much fun having friends instantly that we had been talking to for several months. Gosh if everyone had chatted with us and joined in our festivities that I have seen posting, we could have had 25 or more cabins. We had 10 and 2 others we lost somewhere along the way. The bigger DIS group the better. Besides we got really cool surprises in our door pouch like magnets, blinking light ups, pins, and bags of goodies....Kids also had playmates.

Windermerejudy - sorry to plead ignorance but what is a DIS group? Sorry to have missed it.

LisaAnn, we are also doing the pirate sail on our own because we are meeting more family at PV and they are going with us. Could you tell me how and where you went to do the Pirate sail without Disney? Taxi, walk?... Is it close? ALso did you notice how people not in the marina would get there?
Thanks
Shirley

FirstTimeCruiser. Yes, they turn off the soda machines at night. Don't know what time they open them in the morning, sorry.

Thx for all the great suggestions! This thread is terrific!! :cool1:

A DIS group is a bunch of people who chat back and forth on these boards in CRUISE MEETS section. Hence the name DIS group!!!! You find the dates that you are traveling and you meet your fellow cruisers before you go and know alot about them already when you get there. Tehn you have various meeting up times throughout the week to do fun things together. Each cruise is different as to how far they take it. This was my first time hooking up beforehand and it was so nice always running into someone you knew around the ship. We also did little goodies in our door pouches on board, door signs, pictures together...

lenzs4-You will see the Pirate ship docked next to the Magic. It's right at the port. We walked from the Magic to the Pirate ship. Not even a 5 minute walk. I didn't notice anyone else other than the people from the Magic boarding the Pirate ship so I'm not sure what those who did not book through disney did. Sorry.

Our family has a few questions to ask about the West Coast cruise. This thread has been so helpful. Thanks!
Was there a pirate night on this cruise? Can you tell us about it? Did people dress up for that night on your cruise?
Are there any other nights that we should know about?
Did anyone do the swim with the dolphins excursion? Was it worth the money?
Did anyone have their kids do the teen sunset cruise? What did they think of that excursion?
How can you sign up for the rainforest spa week?
:earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

The Disney excursion for golf in Cabo is at Cabo del Sol desert course. Has anyone been able to get on the ocean course there?
My wife read somewhere that there was a driving range for golf on the Magic boat. Where is it located?
:cool1:

Yes, there is a pirate night...yes, we dressed up and had a wonderful time but DON"T sit at the mickey pool to watch the fireworks (we did and one fell next to my kid but all was fine).
Other nights to remember are the formal and semiformal nights (bring nice clothes).

We did dolphins and it was very nice excursion. It's pricey so that is what we budgeted for our ONE big excursion. It's a great once in a lifetime thing.

No, no driving range on the Magic unless you putt your own golf balls into the ocean off the back of the boat. There is a minigolf contest a couple of the mornings at sea, but this is in the atrium and more just for fun.

Did not golf in Cabo, so can't help you there.

ENJOY!

My son did the teen sunset cruise with others he met on the ship and enjoyed it. He waited until the night before to book and then his other friend's mother and I had to book it together to make sure they could both get on.

I think you sign up for the rainforest weekly package at the spa. That is what has happened in the past. You can also pay by day if you like.

We just got back from the West Coast Cruise. Went on the Sierra Madre tour in Mazatlan (much better than we expected - Husband's pick).

Hi, We're also doing the Sierra Madre tour. Could you tell me a little about it? What made it better than you expected? Were there any kids on the tour? I hope my DD7 enjoys it. She's into seeing "new stuff".

Hi! You will LOVE the rainforest room!! I did not sign up for the weekly package. I just went one of the days at sea. It's $15 a day. I think the week package is $75. One thing to keep in mind is the days at port. You may not even be on the ship long enough on these days to use the room. If you buy an all day pass, you can come and go as much as you please from 8am-10pm. I went in and out about 3 times the day I had it. I was planning to go back after dinner, but was too busy with the shows, looking at pics at Shutters, etc. The rainforest room is something I do EVERY cruise for one day. Have fun!

skeegan- we are doing the exact samre excursions for the July 2 cruise. 9except I'm not snorkeling- men and boys in our group are- we;re doing the beach escape in Cabo. How was the Sierra Madre tour and Las Caletas? Thanks

I think Capt Gala was Thursday, Semi formal night.
