We just got back from our first trip to WDW with DD. We did 4 days at the parks and 3 days on the Disney Wonder. We stayed at AKL. We had a wonderful time! If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer!

I'm bringing my twin sons to WDW the first week of May to celebrate their first birthday and then we are going on the Disney Wonder in August to celebrate my 40th birthday with various family members.

So, hmmmnnn...let me think. :scratchin
How about giving us some details about your two trips. How did your 16mos. old do? Did you bring your own stroller from home? Any problems with transportation? How is the AKL?

How was the cruise? Did you use the Flounder Reef nursery? Any problems with that? What did you do with your child when they weren't in the nursery? What about meals.....was the staff accomodating to a child that age?

Have I asked you enough questions????

I can't wait to hear.

I just want to know, what is you top #1 tip? Ok maybe top 5 tips for doing it with an infant? I am worried about my 14 month old sleeping in a pack n play? Did you do that?

I also just got back with my 15 month old DS and our 2 yr old DD. I was worried about his sleeping in the pack n play. I intended to try it out ahead of time but didn't get around to it. As it turned out he slep well most nights in the pack n play which we kept at the foot of our bed. A couple of mornings he woke up way to early and I just brought him into my bed.

What I found most challenging was the naps bc I thought it would eat up to much time to go to our offsite hotel for naps and has a hard time sleeping in his stroller. Our best day was when he fell asleep in It's a Small World. The line ups were practically non-existent so they let me stay in the boat for a second round and when I got out DH was ready with the stroller.

Contemplating doing a split cruise/parks trip. 4 days on cruise and 4 days in the parks. We've done the parks before but never a cruise.

Did you do the parks first or vice versa?
What transportation did you use to get from AKL to port?
Was 3 days good for a first cruise or would you recommend 4 days?
What time did you get onto the ship? Looking at times, it shows a 4pm leaving for cruise, how much earlier do you get on the ship?

Okay, lets see if I can remember everything---

DD did use the pack and play most nights. One night she was extremely overtired (our fault keeping her at MK until almost 11), but then she slept with us.

The transportation at AKL was actually very good. We had stayed at POP previously and always waited in long lines for busses. Since AKL is a lot smaller than POP there was never much or any line. Busses tended to run every 10 min. even though they told us they ran about every 20min. The only complaint I had is that the bus that takes you to EPCOT stops at AK first to pick up people waiting for EPCOT. However, the bus never tells you that it stops there first. The first time we went to EPCOT it took us close to an hour. B/c we waited at AK forever it felt like. But that was minor, at least for us.

We did the parks first (4 days) and then the cruise (3 days). DD was so exhausted by the time we got to the cruise, after all the park hopping, that I don't think she even realized where we were. After taking the 3 night cruise, I definitely would do the 4 night. 3 just wasn't enough to do a lot. We purchased the DCL transfers and they ran extremely smoothly. I think we got the last bus to the ship, and we arrived just after 2pm. But b/c we did the Land/Sea we were already checked in and could just go straight on the ship. We did use Flounder's; 3 different times. one morning and 2 evenings. The CM were outstanding. Make sure you make ressies as soon as possible b/c they book up fast. They'll give you a pager and page you if your needed, we never got paged! :cool1:

The servers at dinner were excellent. We were at a table with another couple and their 3 children. Since the servers "travel" with you, they remember your children, call them by name, and remember the little things your child wants or needs. Like they remember that DD would rather have her drink out of a sippy instead of their cups, so they accomodated us. The meal options for kids in the dining rooms range from pizza to chicken strips to baked salmon; and always a choice of dessert! Dinner was a little long for DD, sitting down at the table for an hour or more was hard, but the servers did their best to entertain! As a side note, Flounder's only allows baby food in jars to be brought in, so you have to feed your little one before dropping them off.

We had a room with a verandah, which was lifesaver, Whenever DD would get cranky we could take her out there and she loved sitting in the chair watching the world go by.

We did take our own stroller with us. I liked the idea of having something DD and I were comfortable with. She could lay down and nap, or we could put snacks in her tray to keep her occupied. The ones at the parks didn't look too comfortable, especially MK. However, having our own meant folding it up everytime we got on the bus, but just a small inconveince. I know they had strollers you could use on Castaway Cay (cruise port), but I'm not sure if you had to rent them or not.

I guess my number one tip is to go on your child's schedule. Let him/her tell you when it's time to leave and take a nap, time to eat, etc. We found out the hard way if you try to push it, you're in for some trouble. Just be easy going. I don't think we ate a the same time once on our trip. Just go with the flow! If there's anything I didn't answer let me know!! Enjoy your trips and take lots of pics!

I came up with more questions. Can you remember (off the top of your head) what rides you were able to go on - and NOT go on - with your baby? That's the only part of my planning, I haven't got a handle on.

We are going to do mostly MK, with a little bit of Epcot sprinkled in. Did your baby watch any of the fireworks shows and was she frightened at all by the noise? What about seeing the characters? Was she frightened by them?

The rides are probably my biggest question.

Hi, We going to WDW for the first time with our 4 children, DS (9), DD (7), DD (3) and DD (17 months) May 23-29th. We are staying at FW cabins with my DSis, DBIL and my DNiece and DNephew, my DM and DD. I dont know what to do about a stroller. We are flying and I am afraid taking our stroller will be to much of a hassle. What do you think? :) Should we take a back carrier too?, the baby is only about 24lbs :earsboy:

I know both my DD(3) and the baby will need a nap and I don't have any problem with taking them back to the cabin. I was also wondering about how much time you spent at the parks? Did the baby get overwhelmed quickly or were they pretty happy until they got tired?

What was the best park for the baby? Best rides? Do they let her sit in your lap for the rides that take you through something like Small World?

Any other info would be great. Thanks

The best park by far for the little ones was MK. You can take your little one on any ride that doesn't have a height restriction, so no Space Mtn., splash mtn., etc! But besided the big "thrill" rides you can ride away. And, yeah, they can sit in your lap. If she didn't, she wouldn't have seen anything. DD really liked small world, the pooh ride, and surprisingly Mickey's phillarmagic. We didn't do much at EPCOT-DH rode Mission Space and test track while I sat with DD (I'm 11 weeks prego,so they were out for me too) But there is a deal where you can do a baby swap at the bigger rides, search this forum there are posts about it. MGM was good for the kids too b/c of the shows. Playhouse disney live on stage is there and DD loved it! Perfect for the toddlers. Also, Beauty and the Beast on stage was good. We spent only 1/2 day at AK b/c we only had 4 days to play. Definitely see the festival of the Lion King (it's inside and really really cool!) The little ones can also do the safari at AK, and DD loved seeing all the animals.

DD was kind of scared of the fireworks, so DH rode Space MTn. and we waited in the gift shop until the show was over. She did like Fantasmic at MGM though. We didn't see any of the parades while we were there. The CM suggest getting your seat for the parades 1-2hrs. prior, and DD would definitely not sit for that long!

She was also a little frightened of the characters. We did the character breakfast at Chef Mickeys our first am there; definitely reccommend this one. It's a lot of fun--Goofy meets you as you come in, and then all the other Characters, including Mickey and Minnie come by your table. And a good plus, kids under 3 are free!!!!! DD liked seeing the characters from afar, but would get a little weird the closer they got. But all of the characters really helped her feel more comfortable, so by the end of the trip (on the cruise) she really liked seeing them.

We spent usually 3-4 hrs. in the am after breakfast at one of the parks. We would have a quick lunch and head back to the hotel for pool/nap time. ANd then around 4-5 we would head back out until DD was ready for bed. By doing it this way, she was much more tolerable! But we had to sacrifice seeing some things, like we never made it to a water park (the pool was just fine) and DTD. But on the plus side, DH and I got to actually spend some time at the resort and see what all it had to offer (not just a bed and shower)!

I really recommend bringing a stroller you and your child are comfortable with. Yeah, it was a little inconvient at the airport and the busses, but not enough for me not to bring it.

I don't know if anyone is considering this, but we used Kid's nite out as a babysitting service one night at WDW. It was great! I know a lot of people are scared to leave their kids with a stranger, but this was an extremely professional outfit, they are the service the WDW recommends. Our sitter's name was Holly. They have been fingerprinted, background checks, and are trained by Disney. It was kind of pricey, but it was worth it for a night out with DH!

Let me know if you think of anything else!

My 15 mos old DS found Mickey's Philharmagic scary. He might have just been overtired.
