And they were wonderful magical weeks. If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them – talking about our holiday’s my favourite hobby at the moment!

Glad you had fun - - - -

...especially interested in hearing about CBR!!!!

We'd love to hear anything you'd like to share about the POR portion of your stay. Thanks! :Pinkbounc

Which was your favorite resort out of them all, and why? Were the transitions from one resort to the next handled smoothly? What were the highlights of your vacation?

Glad you had a great time:)

Thanks WDWtrekker – me too! I'd been looking forward to it for SO long that it could easily have been an anti-climax but it was better than I ever could have hoped for!

Kimmar067 – I'm not sure what you’d like to know but I'll try not to leave anything out. If I do, let me know…
CBR was our first taste of WDW and it didn’t let us down at all. I asked for a quiet top floor room – what I really wanted was a quiet, top floor, courtyard view, corner room in Jamaica but I didn’t like to push my luck. Well, the room allocator is obviously psychic because that’s exactly what we got! I'd seen pictures of the newly refurbished rooms and hated the green paintwork but the pictures don’t do it justice. It goes very well with the bright florals and we completely fell in love with the room. My husband stays in hotels a lot, (I don’t!) including some very posh ones and he rated the rooms and the resort very highly.
We went for a walk round the lake at least once every day. It was just so pretty. DH couldn’t wait to get the drinks just because we got to go across the island, look at the ducks and the scenery. We didn’t use the pools at all so I'm sorry I can’t tell you much about them. They were very popular though.
The only things we didn’t like were the food court, which we hated, and the staff in the shop. We had some bad experiences with them. We twice saw CMs blatantly ignoring customers and most were grumpy. But that may have been just our bad luck. We didn’t like the choice at the food court or the way you queued separately each time. And the drinks dispensers ALWAYS had at least one sign up saying go to another station. Sometimes more than one. We never saw this at POR or AKL. Did that help? I hope so!

And having said all that, our favourite resort was POR! We stayed in Arcadian Manor with another courtyard view and again, it was magical. Compared to CBR, the rooms were a little tired but we still felt right at home there. And we still had a lake and beautiful grounds we loved walking round. I think what swung it was the foodcourt (which we loved), the lovely staff at check in and in the shop (without exception!), the boat to Downtown Disney… And something else – a sort of faded gentility that appealed to us. We’ll definitely be going back! Wish it were tomorrow…

Oh Nancy – caught red handed! But it was nice being caught! I forgot to ask you – how’s the weather?

Sorry drenkey and Steffi, I didn’t see your replies till I posted mine.
Drenkey – is there anything you’d specifically like to know about? We much preferred the mansions to the AB section but then we don’t like brown so we found them a bit drab. I hope I don’t get flamed for that, but everyone’s tastes are different. We thought all the mansions were beautiful and found all convenient to the island crossing over to the food court, etc. But we do enjoy walking so others might think it further!
I used the laundry at POR one pm – the bath had a line across it and I bought one from home and everything was dry overnight without using the driers. I was wary of them as I'd read that they sometimes burnt clothes and on a low heat they were pretty ineffective. I was glad I saved my money – the air conditioning did the job!
I haven’t seen the food court at ASMovies which I've heard is the best but I'm sure POR’s must be the second best – we really liked it. I met a very nice fellow Brit in the laundry and she raved about Boatwrights too – they went every day. And she said her family (we don’t have children) loved the quiet pool at the mansions. They were in Magnolia Mansion and loved it and POR as much as we did. Can’t think of anything else off the top of my head so I hope that helped!
Steffi, the change to POR went as smooth as butter, though the one to AKL wasn’t as easy. We ended taking our room requests to both these hotels. At POR, I gave it to Matt who was such a nice man. He sorted everything out there and then – and he organised one of our (if not THE) highlights of our trip. I put in our letters that the trip was a combined sixth wedding anniversary and VERY belated honeymoon (this was quite true as my parents had given us money for a honeymoon as our wedding present but for various reasons we’d never taken it. It got splurged on WDW!) This made Matt laugh. About a quarter of an hour after we arrived, a CM knocked on the door with balloons and a signed photo from Mickey and Minnie, wishing us a magical stay. We were SO happy! It may have helped that Eliza who took our booking wrote that we were a wonderful couple, please give us a magical time. Eliza was definitely another highlight! We had a LOT of problems booking but she was pure pixie dust!
This is SO long – I'd better précis the rest! AKL check in staff were not very good – they lacked warmth and were very cliquey. DH wasn’t impressed - he has a lot of experience with hotels. The rest of the staff was excellent. Our letter wasn’t passed on but our room was perfect anyway, second floor Arusha savanna, perfect view. (Watching the animals from our balcony was definitely a highlight). The check in CM tried to steer us away from it though, to another savanna we knew wasn’t as good (birds, air conditioning units, kitchen smells). Very strange. And we weren’t given the code needed to find out if our room was ready but housekeeping was perpetually engaged anyway. Bell services was very efficient – we handed our bags in and they brought them to our room less than a minute after I phoned.

There were many other highlights (especially the mousekeeper at POR) but you’ve probably all fallen asleep by now. I'm aiming to do trip reports – expect them to be l-o-n-g. It was all so magical! Sweet dreams to you all!

...for your honest post. We will be arriving July 26 and requested Martinique. Sorry to hear about your disappointing time at the food court. I had planned to eat alot of meals there before we head off to WL on the 31st.:( Was the food bad-tasting? overpriced? small in quantity? limited menu?

Poohshoney- Thank you for all of the information...I'm looking forward to reading your trip reports. It sounds like you really did have a magical time. I love that they surprised you with balloons at POR:) POR is mine & my husband's favorite resort so far, also...reading your post is making me ache to go back!

Kimmar...we (me, my husband, and our DD age 7) stayed at CBR in March...we were also a bit disappointed in their food court, having previously stayed at ASMo & POR. The food was not bad-tasting, IMO, nor stingy in quantity (although the overall selection was less varied than the other food courts)...we just didn't like the hectic set-up of the place. It wasn't like the other food courts we'd tried, where you choose your food at the different stations & then pay at one central location on your way out...at CBR, you line up at each different food station to receive and pay for your food. This, combined with the very slow & indifferent service, left us with a bad impression of the CBR food court. But we do most of our dining away from the resort, so that didn't affect our opinion of CBR much. We loved the place and it's our second-favorite Disney resort now!

Kimmar, Steffi summed it up perfectly. That’s exactly how we felt about the food court, including the indifferent service. Eating there wasn’t fun – we were far more relaxed at POR. But just like you said Steffi, it doesn’t spoil things. It’s our second-favourite too!

...I understand now. We stayed at CSR and thoroughly enjoyed the Pepper Market. Last year, we stayed at DxL (POR) and that food court DID have the central location where you paid for your food. Maybe if we visit it during "off-hours" it will be less hectic?!?!?! (I can dream, can't I?) Anyway, I'm not going to let this spoil my visions of a wonderful vacation. The renovations look beautiful, and I really can't wait to get there!! Bottom line is: my family will all be together at the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH!!
