Just back from the Poly

I just got back from the Poly yesterday. We were there 9 days and had a great time. Our room was 3rd floor Samoa facing the quiet pool. I wanted facing the volcano pool but they didn't have it. The view was of 3 palm trees and that was it! LOL! We didn't sit out on the balcony this trip at all because we had no view. No biggie though. The room was always clean and that's what mattered. We requested turn down service for the first time because we thought it would be nice to come back to the room to fresh towels and a bed turned down. Out of 8 nights this only happened once completely. One night we had fresh towels, emptied trash and bads fixed. Three nights nothing was done. The other four nights consisted of turning down the beds and nothing more. Very spotty for turndown service. We won't be requesting it again. The pool was great and not crowded at all. We had NO rain the entire trip! Temps were in the mid 80s. We ate at Ohana, our favorite restaurant, and was disapointed this time. The firepit was being rehabbed so all the food came from Kona's. It was far from the food cooked over a grill. We did go back and give Kona's another chance but only for lunch. It was very good though we only had burgers and those little crabcakes. No room for dessert that time! We finally got to see La Nouba and it was the best show. The 5 y/o DD was mesmorized the entire time. What a great show that is! It is worth the cost. All and all we cannot wait to get back to the Poly. This was the last year that we will go to WDW twice a year. Since DD started kindergarten we are cutting the trips back to just in October. I am really going to miss those wonderfully smelling flowers in May when we usually do our second trip though. We will be back in October again. I had requested a fridge which was brought to our room a little after check in. There was no charge for it although I have yet to be charged for a fridge at the Poly anyway. Any questions?

Hi,
I am glad your trip went well. I think the only thing at MOST of the resorts that disney is laking in(from what Ive read lately) is mousekeeping.
I think this is the only thing that needed improvment for us at POFQ and POR on our last couple of trips... The YC however had good Mousekeeping.
I will be taking my DGDs to the poly in July and was wondering if you thought a five year old would like the slide or if it would be to old for them. They ofcourse would have to wear a lifejacket.
Any thought on the subject would be great.
TIA
Betsy

I think it depends onyuor 5 y/o. My 5 y/o DD is a big chicken so there is no way she would do it. On the other hand, there were lots of kids younger then her going down it. I have been down it and thought it very dark and fast but a lot of fun. I have only been on one other resort slide and that was the WL one. I thought the Poly was much better and larger then that one.

My cowardly 6 year old loved the Volcano Slide! I went behind him the 1st time and he was fine from there. Water at the end is appx 4 ft. deep so I would just wait for him to come down.

I don't know what came over him, he was so brave all week, rode Space Mountain 5 times, Dinosaur twice and Tower of Terror twice. Yet he won't ride a bike, even with training wheels...go figure!

We were at the Poly 9/30-10/7 and had a great time, Samoa Building first floor quiet pool side. Our view was vegetation but kept it private, my boys loved trying to catch the little lizards everywhere. Location was so convenient to the pool, etc. We loved everything about the Poly, although the staff wasn't as friendly as I'd expected. Bellhop service was great though.

Wish we could do it again, but next time we'll be taking our youngest which makes 6 and changes everything, we'll have to do two moderate or value rooms as none of the Deluxe resort's allow 6/room.

im 22 and im still scared to ride the tower of terror...I mean, dont get me wrong I'll get on it...but you can bet whosever hand I'm holding is going to lose circulation at some point!

we were on 3rd floor samoa volcano side on Friday & Saturday. Did you hear the loud families at around 7 AM? They woke us up both Saturday and Sunday morning. The volcano pool was also down for sanitizing. Didn't get to use it at all!:( We never got our fridge either. Check in was delayed because they cleaned our carpet. Manager paid for our dinner though. Really nice guy. We ate Ohana on Friday, fire pit was up and running then. Sorry for you though. We were at WL the first part of our trip. That pool has a great slide for little ones. It comes in in less than 4 feet of water. The lifeguard at the volcano pool recommended a safety vest for my DD7, said that the current was a bit strong. Unfortunately, by the time we got checked in on Friday it was time to eat and go to the party. Then the pool was off limits on Saturday. Oh well, maybe next time.

Yes I so remember those loud families on both days too. My 5 y/o DD wanted me to go out and hollar at them for waking her up! LOL! She went on and on about how some moms and dads let their kids act that way. Sorry to hear about the pool. We went in the pool Saturday morning around 10am and it was open then. What time Saturday did they close it? We got out about noon as we were heading to the MK for our last full day there. We got in the pool every day but one in our entire 9 day trip. I think that is my favorite part of WDW now. That and the pool bar really does it for me! Tim the bartender even gave me 6 of those Polynesian souvenier cups for free. On our check in day we got there around 10am which I knew was too early for our room so they held our stuff and we went right to the MK until about 6pm. I love the view of the volcano pool and really had hoped we had it. I wish I knew what you looked like. It would have been nice to meet you. You didn't go to the MNSSHP on Friday night did you? I remember talking to a couple with a kid or two coming back late that night and telling me that the party was sold out. I talked to them for a few minutes and that was it.

We left on Saturday morning for EPCOT and MGM, as I walked to Capt. Cooks for breakfast one of my girls notcied that the waterfall was not working and the rope was across the stairs to the slide. There were lifeguards cleaning debris from the actual pool. We were late getting back, around 8:45, girls wanted to swim, we noticed caution tape and lounge chairs barring all entrances. Went to the beach to watch fireworks, sign said that pool was closed for cleaning. Strong chlorine smell. Next morning same thing
