Just got home last night from our first stay at the Poly. Try to be brief but it's hard!! Arrived on a Friday morning about 11. Room was not ready & they put us in Tahiti which I asked for but then really didn't want. The CM looked & looked & there wasn't anything else except a room without a balcony which wasn't an option for us. David the manager that day overheard us with the CM & offered to move us on Sat. am to the exact room location we wanted. Maybe it didn't hurt that he was from a town only two towns away from where we live. Either way, he took care of it with a smile. All the CMs these last 5 days were great with plenty of smiles & alohas. Our first room was 2044 in Tahiti, which while it was nice, I just wasn't feeling it that far away from everything. DH & I love to walk the grounds wherever we stay, but I just felt like I needed to be more near the action. The room itself was fine-clean & very spacious, 2 sinks...The slider to the balcony was HEAVY-even for DH. Okay on to the best part of my stay. My NEW room. Sat afternoon we went back to the front desk, & David (our guy!) told me that our room in Fiji was ready. Room 3307. Third floor facing luau cove. I can't tell you how happy I was. It was perfect for us & totally made my whole stay. Yes, the room is smaller than Tahiti with only one sink-I could care less. The room was very clean & smelled great. Housekeeping was great all week & for those of you who care, yes 3 towel animals. I will post plenty of pics once I get settled in.
As far as the rest of the resort, the grounds were beautiful & very clean. Not many lovebugs at all, but alot of crows hanging around the Hawaii building.?? Pools weren't crowded at all & we always found a chair. We ate at Kona & Ohanas-great, friendly service at both. Great seat at Ohanas too -right in front of the castle. Didn't use Captain Cooks but it did seem busy. Loved walking to Grand Floridian on the path & of course you can't beat the monorail to MK.

So overall thoughts-a great stay. It took us a little while to feel like it was our resort, but I think that was due to a later check in the first day, followed by a room change the next. I would definately do it that way again. Just loved that room! We are booked for POR for May 08, but I was already looking at prices to change back to the Poly!! Don't get me wrong, this won't be the only place we stay now. It's ALOT of money for what you get, it's not a luxury resort. I think for us we will only stay there with a code. I don't think it's worth almost $400 a night. But that being said, we really liked it & will return. Any questions, feel free & the pics will be coming soon!! Okay this wasn't brief!! Had to give all the info I could:love:

We were there the 19th-26th...we were originally slated to be in Tahiti as well, but asked to be changed for the same reasons you did. They ended up getting us a room in Tokelau, which was fine. We've stayed at the Poly a total of three times, and this was the most disappointing. We had a cockroach in our room..whatever: Florida's got big bugs. We killed it and off we went. But the hallway was covered in litter and no one picked it up, never mind vacuum. No towel animals, but my in-laws got one every day and they were 6 doors down. I tipped everyday instead of waiting until the end of the trip and maybe that was my downfall???:confused3 ;) Not many Aloha's or Mahalo's...I'm nickel-and-dime'n it now...I think we just need to try a new resort for a fresh perspective. I have to say that the staff was very responsive and kind when we needed to call an ambulance for my son. I definitely felt "safe" in such a tough situation. The duty mangers were amazing, so was security.
The Poly is great, we just know too much now...the first time is always the best. We just need a new "first time".

I just got back and we also booked bounceback at POR (family of 5). It keeps nagging me that I loved the Poly and want to stay there again! Alas, we had the code, too, and probably can't afford the Poly again at full price. :sad1:

Thanks for taking the time to post the report and pictures.

Beautiful! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and ended up with a great room. We've only stayed in Tokelau, only been to the Poly twice - but we love it. I'm going to request a different location next time. Tokelau is very nice, very centrally located.

Glad you had a great stay. I'll be checking in tomorrow morning for my very first Poly stay!! Can't wait!!!1

Thanks for your thoughts! I'm considering requesting Fiji for my upcoming trip and was wondering if you ever walked to the TTC from Fiji -- exactly how far is it?

DH & I love too walk & I have to say it is a bit of a hike from Fiji. They are as far apart from each as can possibly be! One on each end of the resort. I would probably guess about 5 min walk? Can't beat the view on the way there! If you know you will be using the TTC alot, I would try to request that end of the resort. We really loved it there, but we had quite a bit of lousy weather so I felt like we didn't really get to take advantage of staying there. Guess I need to go back!

Thanks for the report and the pictures. We are headed there in August '08. I can't wait because I have always wanted to stayed there, since my first trip in 1976. Ooops, I just gave a hint of my age.
:rolleyes1

We have stayed in Fiji 3 years in a row now, the walk to the TTC is about as far as walking from the monorail platform at MK, to the hub in front of the castle. I would guess 8-10minutes at a 8 year olds pace.:wizard:

Yea!! I'm glad you had a great time. I saw you on other Poly posts and I know you were psyched about it. That's some good stuff ;)
We stayed in Fiji 9/8-9/15 and LOVED it. Definitely requesting it again!
Thank you for sharing! :)

Thanks for the review! :thumbsup2 Fiji is my second-favorite GV longhouse next to Samoa. Your lovely pictures have me pining away for my next trip to the Polynesian. I miss it so much.

Great Fiji pics! I was thinking that when staying at the Poly it would be nice to be close to the TTC and the quiet pool, but your room view was amazing so it has me second guessing my thinking!

Ummmm, now I am just thinking about your $400/night comment. We are planning to go May 2008 and that is about what it would cost us. What to do? What to do? I know I would be perfectly happy at CSR or POR, but I have been dreaming about the Poly since I was a little girl.
