We just returned from our first visit of 8 nights at the Poly and now can't imagine staying anywhere else. We are a family of five travelling with myself, DH, DD (7), DS (4) and DGM. When we originally booked I had asked CRO for 2 connecting rooms in Samoa - that was it. As time got closer I decided I would rather have 1st floor facing the Volcano Pool. So on Tuesday prior to leaving I faxed a room request directly to the Poly ( I figured it couldn't hurt). We arrived on Friday 4/15 about 5:00 p.m. and were whisked through check-in. The CM checking us in was very friendly. He suggested walking to our rooms and then calling for luggage since it was so close. We ended up being in rooms 1608 & 1609 which are 1st floor Samoa with a direct center view at the Volcano pool! :cloud9:

We called for our luggage which was brought within 5 minutes - very fast and efficient. The location was great. We could come and go as we pleased to the pool and the beach. It was so quick and convenient if we needed to "run" back to our rooms for anything. We were a 2 minute walk to GCH or Marina, about 5 minutes to either bus or TTC - GREAT LOCATION!

We requested two refridgerators (1 for each room) from Mousekeeping which were brought up within 15 minutes - Again very fast and efficient.

The resort itself I found to be very relaxed, beautifully landscaped and a lot of fun with all its amenities including the restaurants, beach, pool and marina. It was great coming back at night from a long day at the Parks and strolling through the grounds. It was an immediate relaxation. Everywhere we went we heard "Aloha"

Mousekeeping was very good - no towel animals but that's okay (NOTE:We talked quite a bit to our weekly mousekeeper and found out she is responsible for 16 rooms during her 8 hour shift leaves less than 1/2 hour per room).

I will say that even though we would stay here again in a heartbeat the hotel is not for everyone. Both pools (especially the Volcano) would get very crowded about 1:00 p.m. with lots of kids. However our kids loved the Pool and the Slide. DS 4 had the biggest smile on his face when he would appear at the bottom of the slide. We didn't think twice because we had kids but I could see it as a deterrent for those without. Also in our room we could hear the EWP and Wishes each night. Didn't bother us and our kids slept right through it, but for light sleepers I would request a different location.

We did express check out which went smoothly. We stored our luggage from checkout until 3:30 p.m. without problems. We were told we could have access to it at anytime although we ended up not needing it.

A couple tips/observances:
1. Boat Service (at least back from MK) we found to be much is much quicker and more relaxing than the monorail.
2. Parents - it is YOUR responsibilty to watch your kids in the pool. I can't tell you the amount of times I heard the lifeguards say "walk don't run"and "get away from the slide opening" not mention the kids that were climbing up the side of the Volcano with the thought of jumping off! We always go over the rules of the pool without children beforehand. They get three chances and if they run out of chances they are out of the pool for the rest of the day. This for their own safety.
3. When you are done with the pool towels for the day please put them in the bins. The lifeguards are not maids to clean up after you.
4. The bus service to AK and DTD was great. Never waited more than 10 minutes for either bus.
5. The view of the sunset from the beach and a Pina Colada from the pool bar is not to be missed :smooth:

It was a great vacation and now I can't wait to start to start planning the next one. Hopefully it will sooner instead of later! Please feel free to ask any questions.

Sounds like you had a great time. I want our next stay to be at the Poly but I have been hearing some negative feedback lately so I was worried I was making the wrong choice. You have renewed my excitement!! :cheer2:  :cheer2:

We went to the Poly in 2002 and I loved it!!

Our next stay is at the BC to try something different, but I would go back to the Poly in a second. So relaxing there.

Glad you had a good time!

How was the weather??

Amen! Can we require parents (myself included) to read this statement and take a quiz re: it before allowing children in a pool?

Loved your report. Makes me want to try Poly next time.
Thanks!

Thanks for your glowing report!

DF and I are getting married at Sunset Point in September...and we are staying at the Poly as well! It is our first trip to WDW and after hearing so many wonderful things about the Poly...I simply can't wait (as if I wasn't excited enough about the wedding! LOL!)

Completely agree, OP. Thanks for the report and glad you had a fabulous time! Ahhh, 30 days ago, we were at the Poly . . .

We leave for our 7 day stay at the Poly in exactly 12 days - can you tell that I am excited and seeing your post got me even more excited. Thanks for the tips, we will of course coach my DS4 in proper pool etiquette. :cheer2:

I find myself missing the Poly as I read your report. Thanks for posting some excellent points!

Here's a question about the Poly pool - the first post mentioned putting your towels back in the bins - do they provide pool towels? That could definitely change what we pack!

Leaving in 9 days for our trip to Poly Hawaii - can't wait!!

Yes, pool towels are available at both the volcano and quiet pool. No need to pack those. Counting the days til I can go back! So glad you had a great trip and stay at the Polynesian!

Glad to hear it was a great trip! Can you report on how things were looking in the Great Ceremonial House? I know that they are in the midst of doing some remodeling in there.

Thanks!!

Glad you had a great time.
We were in Room 1608 last July. Our previous two trips in GV rooms at the Poly were also on the ground floor looking at the Volcano Pool....Don't you just love that location! :goodvibes

Thank you for that report it was nice to see someone who enjoys the Poly almost as much as I do! I'll be there in 4 days and my wife and I call the Poly our home away from home. You are correct about how relaxing the Poly is when you come back from a long day at the parks. It's a wonderfull feeling that can't really be described, it has to be felt to understand it. I don't understand how anyone could hate this beautiful resort but everyone is different I guess. I'm glad to see the Poly has worked her special magic on someone else. What a true Disney Classic and I wish it was a little cheaper so I could visit her 3 or 4 times a year. Thank you again for that nice review it made me smile when I read it.

I loved reading your report. gotta love ole poly.

Oh thank you for this report!!!!!!! :flower: If it's possible I am even MORE excited to get back to the Poly now!!!!!

Loved the report- thanks for the info. Did you find being that close to the pool was loud at night from people swimming?

How is the construction/remodel going in the GCH. Did you hear how close they are to being finished? Please let us know. :)

Thanks for your report. We stayed at the Poly/Samoa building in June '03.

You really captured the magic of the Poly. Thanks for reminding me of some great memories :lovestruc

Glad you had a great time!! The only thing is that you are now spoiled by the Poly and won't want to stay anywhere else!!! :flower:
