I'm on a Yahoo Van Halen board who's members are big fans of Sammy Hagar. They say that there have been many instances of people getting sick after dining at Cabo Wabo.

For what it is worth, there is always a risk at the restaurants in Mexico in general because the strict regulations on food handling and cleanliness that we enjoy (or take for granted) in the US do not exist in Mexico.

It's beginning to sound like Cabo Wabo needs to pay attention...

Yikes .... I was planning to take my two daughters there after the boat/bus tour. I think we'll only go there for the souvenirs and probably eat back at the boat.

We didn't book an excursion in Cabo because we wanted to go there! I don't think I will eat there. Maybe just visit and take a look around. I wonder if their drinks are safe?

I have been there on many occasions and not gotten sick from the food or drinks. Good luck, perhaps.

If you want to be ultra-safe while in Mexico in general, drink only bottled (or cans) drinks, no ice. People usually forget about the ice.

Eat only fully-cooked food. Other items often overlooked by visitors that can be tainted include salsa and salads. Salads because they are washed in water.

My understanding (not confirmed) is that the water in Cabo specifically is well water and is safe. I have been drinking the water in the southern Baja California on yearly trips for the last decade and never had a problem. I can't say the same for northern Baja (Tijuana, Ensenada). My experiences there have led me to be VERY cautious and I avoid all of the above mentioned items religiously.

In Cabo, I eat and drink as if I am in San Diego and have never (luck?) had a problem.

With communicable diseases, like Norovirus, you can get it anywhere. Just most likely aboard a cruise ship.

When is the next cruise? We'll have to do a reunion vacation sometime.

We had planned to do the Mexican cruise and my parents would not fly to CA, and I was worried about the cool weather I heard of in June-so we cancelled and are doing a night RC next week on the Enchantment--I will be missing the Magic.

Please don't be scared of Cabo. It's such a wonderful place with wonderful people. Just excercise caution as you should in most foreign countries. We have been going there for over 10 years and the only time anyone in our group ever got sick was when one person ate a hamburger that smelled funny. Yes, he continued to eat it anyway. He was sick afterwards, but for only half a day.

Our family is just now getting over the effects of this virus. Its a bad one. I had an IV on Sunday right before we were leaving the ship, and my DD13 was quarrantined, causing us to miss the pirate party. Kind of a bummer, although what was the obvious solution? Book another cruise onboard, of course! (which we did!)

My family is also just getting over the effects of the cruise. My DD and I have been fighting a stomach bug all week. I guess I got the 2 week DCL cruise I've always wanted: 1 week on the boat, 1 week getting over its effects!

Hi - just back from the July 20-27 cruise. Don't get sucked in by the photos and news about Sea Life Park in PV. We were out $80 for a cab ride only to find the water park had been shut down for many weeks and the cab driver seemed to know it too. What a rip off!! No news of the shut down on the Sea Life Park website!! BEWARE!

It definitely was not shut down for many weeks because my family got to enjoy it on July 17. We actually had alot of fun. The slides were great and very safe. The dolphin swim was so much fun. From what we have heard, it was shut down on July 21. Sorry you just missed it.

I was on the July 20-27 cruise too!!!! My big question: has anyone gotten any info about what happened that first day at sea when we lost all power??? I was sitting on deck 10 and all the sudden there was thick black smoke pouring out of a stack!!! My kids were in the Stack and told me that there was a complete power outage!!! We were never able to get an answer as to what really happened...anyone!!???

I have seen some reference to attire in the dining room for the Mexican Riviera Cruise, but we leave on Sunday and I want to make sure to pack appropriately. We are from Southern California and it is completely appropriate for my son to wear nice shorts and a button down shirt when we go out to what would be considered a "very nice" restaurant. Can we expect the same on the cruise? My son doesn't even own a pair of pants besides jeans at the moment, but he does have some very nice shorts and shirts. Same question goes for men. Any advice???

I was on the July 13 MR cruise where they tested the auxiliary power generator. They shut down a lot of the ship's functions i.e. elevators during this test. Maybe what you saw was the aux generator firing up?

I would say no. On formal night, for example, they say "no shorts"...I always made DH put on long pants for dinner. Most nights are "cruise casual" which says "no shorts" in the paperwork, I think. Although, probably the only place they would make you go back and change is Palo (happened on our cruise, they made some guy go and change, but he came back in what looked like PAJAMA PANTS )

Quickie update!

Our travel insurance pulled through - I claimed for 2 days for each of us (even though we were very sick for three weeks afterward, we could only claim the 48 hour quarantine period) and they paid! Check's in the mail today - $1100 total.

Also, I sent a very nice email to Disney telling them what happened and asking how we could better avoid this situation in the future, and they sent us 25% off coupons for a future cruise! Probably won't use them, since they have to be used by August 09, however it was nice of them to offer.
