What a great stay we had.
Plusses: Monorail, 5 min. walk to MK and of course the view (Room 4340)

Minuses:
The work being done was a little bit of an eyesore. Grab and go needed a little more items.
We will be going back to CR!!!
:thumbsup2

Glad you had a great trip there. We leave next month for 10 days...staying at the Contemporary. If you get a chance and supply a little more of your experiences staying there I'd appreciate it.

Thanks a bunch...

We just got back yesterday. The 5 minute walk to MK was great. The monorail was better than the buses. (We only went to MK and EPCOT) Watching fireworks from our room every night was wonderful!! I agree the Grab N Go definitely needs more selection. We found out later we could have got a better selection at the pool--they have a little food stand there. (chicken strips, burgers etc) All the Grab N Go had was pizza and hot dogs with chips and some cold sandwiches. The pool was nice, a little dirty though. The kids loved the slide. The bathroom has NO counter space. Our room was clean.

We arrived on 10/13 around 1:30 and got our room right away. Seventh floor room 4340. Room was clean and neat. There was a little noise from the workers but it wasn't crazy or too loud. Chef Mickeys was lots of fun and Cal Grill was great. Once again I will stress that the walk is 5 mins. to MK and I never waited more than 5 mins for a monorail. So convenient.
we loved it!

We also were able to rent (for free) a life vest for our daughter by the pool for the length of the stay, kept it in our room. It really helped her.
she went down the slide with it, once....lol

Glad to read a good review on CR. CR really intrigues me - my DH is another story. So these good reviews help in changing DH's mind. We stayed at the Poly and shared a bus route on a couple of occasions w/CR and it did look that the walk wasn't that far to MK but I was surprised to see it crossed a fairly busy intersection. 5 minutes - thats great - can't beat that! Glad you had a great time.

Hi Marc,
A couple of questions... HOpe u dont mind... Did you use a stroller? (how old is ur daughter?) Did you find it easy to get around the resort? and did you travel to any other parks or just MK?

Thanks,
Jessica

Also glad to read a positive review of the CR. We had a similar room view in '99 and used to stay up late just to watch the castle lights every night! We hope to get a MK View for our Atrium Club stay in December! :goodvibes

Did you happen to use the Laundry Room in the South Wing?

CR is the first resort we stayed in back in '93. WOW. We stayed in the garden
wing and vowed to come back and stay in the tower. We'll we've done that
several times and still visit every time we go to WDW. It's nostalgic for us.
What a great place. I'm thrilled you got to stay there and had such a great
vacation. This is just the beginning! :thumbsup2

Jessica, we did use an umbrella stroller we brought from home. We forgot the umbrella part but she made it w/o it. The stroller was great b/c it was our DD's (3 1/2) first time and she did get scared or nervous at some points and instead of "uppies" (picking her up) we could use it. It also was easy to get around with and fold. The resort was really great with the walking distance to MK and the monorail. And the monorail itself is just so cool to watch.
We did visit all the parks. We went to MGM from like 10 to 9 one day and AK
from like 9 to 3:30 another. Mostly it was Epcot and MK. The monorail is so easy for those two parks. Our DD never uses a stroller at home anymore but I definitely recommend it for DW.
Ask away if you have anything else.
Marc

Thanks so much for your response. I really want to stay at this resort next year but my DH keeps telling me that its not kid friendly (themed wise) and I try to tell him that the location is what makes me want to stay more then anything. You said in a pp that the you rented a life vest for her so I take it you used the pool... was the pool nice & was there a kiddie pool? It seems very generic and I had no idea about a slide; so thats a plus.
Im glad that you went to the other parks too cause now I can ask you about that:rolleyes1 :rotfl:... Did you use disney transportation and did you find the buses that ran from the CR to AK & MGM ok? Did they stop anywhere else or did they just go straight to resort to the park?
I apologize for all the questions but knowing that you went w/ a baby helps me out alot w/ my choices!!! :)

Tell your DH that with the ability to see Chef Mickey's and the Monorails from the interior balconies of the resort the theming is there. It does seem more like an adult hotel but my daughter loved it. Every time we went to the room she needed to be picked up to look at both the monorail and Chef Mickeys to see if she saw any characters. You normally don't see characters at other resorts every day.
Ok the pool. There are two. The one with the water slide is pretty big and although not a kiddie pool it wasn't bad. W/o the life vest we would have to hold our DD if she wasn't on the steps. After we found out about the vest it was hands off I want to swim..... The adult pool was warmer but there were no adults so we just went there for a few hours.
The bus stop was at the beginning of the walkway to MK and we never waited more than 10 mins. for a bus to AK or MGM. We did stop at the Polynesian or WL but it really wasn't long at all.
We have stayed at the CBR and ASM before and this just outdid them in so many ways. My wife and I talked on the plane home and agreed, as long as we can afford to pay for a monorail resort we would do it.

That view is absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to see it for myself next summer!:thumbsup2
You will love it. We would kid my DD and every morning or after we got back to the room we would ask her to go the the window and make sure the castle was still there. She would point and say "Still there kids"
It was priceless.
Here she is goofing around in the hotel store.

Not kid friendly? It's across the street from the Magic Kingdom! How much more kid-friendly can you get? :)

I think this is the best resort for families with children! You are the first stop back from the MK. And you really can walk to the MK in 5 minutes. NOt sure about that previous post with a busy intersection. You are basically crossing a driveway from a parking lot that now be under construction (wasn't yet in January when we were there). If the monorail line is long at the MK you can walk back faster than waiting in line! It is great. The pool area is great and they had a playground but this is in the area that is being reconstructed so I am not sure if it is still there. HTH
