My husband and I were at SSR from 8/24-8/29. This is a beautiful resort. They must have broke the bank in landscaping alone. I think our room was 2413, it was on the first floor overlooking DTD and the quiet pool. The quiet pool is very nice with lots of lounge chairs and tables. We took the walking path to DTD...about a 10 minute walk or so. The bus service was just outstanding. Most waits were 30 seconds to 3 minutes. We only waited 15 minutes once. We did not eat at Artist Palate, but the food looked and smelled very good. Front desk staff was really nice and so were the life guards at the main pool. Mouskeeping was pretty good, I would give them a "B". We did have full housekeeping and one day the Mousekeeper forgot to put the bottom sheet on the bed (this would be the fitted sheet). It seemed like we always had to remake the bed.

As far as the parks went, they were empty. We walked on to POTC, Space Mountain, TOT, Rock-n-RollerCoaster, just to name a few. We made PS's but really didn't need to. Weather was good with very little rain. We saw Lots of tree damage due to the storm.

Any questions, just ask!

Welcome back "neighbor!" Thanks for the report! I was really surprised to read that the parks were so empty! I always thought that it would still be pretty busy at this time. Good to know for future planning purposes! ;) Reading your report just makes me want to go "home" even more. Thanks again!! :wave2:

Thanks for the info (note to self last week in August :p ). What was the heat like? It sounds like you had a great time...I'm glad you did:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I'm glad to hear how much you like SSR! We're making plans for the 3rd week in August '05, maybe we should consider the last one.

We couldn't get over the lack of crowds. Even when we did grab a fastpass they were for the next hour. If you are planning a trip in August, I would wait until the end.

Enjoy:D

Hi everyone. I too have been in Aug. before. The reason it's not so crowded at the end of Aug. is that Orlando goes back to school either the 3rd or 4th week of Aug. That's the upside to going late Aug. The down side though is the heat and rain.

We just returned from a stay from 8/26 - 8/30 and totally agree. This is a great time to go to WDW as far as crowds. The heat was not unbearable either and we just had a little rain a couple days in the afternoon on two days.

We stayed at the Wyndham Palace after winning on Priceline for $63 per night. That's another whole story in itself! Nothing to brag about this hotel.

The best part of the trip - We took the DVC tour for SSR, and ..... bought 240 pts! I would have been happy with 160, but DH felt we need more pts so we would be able to get a 2 bedroom when we go (we're a family of 5, but I'd stay in a janitor's closet if it meant I got to go to WDW!). I didn't have to twist any arms here and my DH is not the biggest Disney fan either. I can hardly believe it - it really was a dream come true to know I can go back so frequently now that we bought DVC! We took the special deal offering $10 off per pt so it was $85 vs. $95 per pt.

Any questions, please ask. I'll probably be posting here more frequently since I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you experience DVC owners!
