Just back from SSR - what a great resort!

I am so thrilled to hear that you loved SSR. Even thoguh that puts you in the minority of DVC'ers it is still nice to know you would book that enormous resort by choice.

Well, that is one down 50,000 to go.

Thanks again for the greta report on SSR. :thumbsup2

The majority of people who stay at SSR for the first time absolutely love it. It's amazing to see how positive peoples opinions are after they have been. I've said it before and i'll say it again, i'd much rather stay at SSR than any other DVC resort. In fact we are going in October for the second time this year!

But of course you know that, and if you are who I think you are then we've had this discussion before.

If you are that person, get a life, if you are genuinely a new poster, then you will not be welcome here by most of us if your posts continue in this style.

Thank you Lisa for the exciting review of SSR. We are new owners and are counting the days until our first trip home. Our boys don't know we are going back to Disney this year or that we are DVC owners. DH and I are busting with excitement but want to wait a few months before telling our sons.
Sincerely Joan

I'm so glad to see that others enjoy SSR as well. It seems this resort does not get the good press it deserves. I was pretty anxious that this wouldn't turn out to be such a great trip by some of the reviews on this board. I know we each have our own unique experiences but the volume of negative comments did effect me. It didn't help that the first thing you saw when you enter SSR gates is the new construction. My heart sank but once we turned the first corner and I saw the beautiful buildings, grounds and main areas, I was in love before I even got off the magical express bus.

My husband and I were sitting around the dinner table last night and he sighed heavily saying "last week at this time we were on vacation!". He has never EVER said that about any Disney vacation before. He is usually ready to go home at the check-in counter. Now he can't wait to go back!

To anyone that has reservations about giving this resort I try, I (and obviously quite a few others) highly recommend SSR, especially if you are looking to get away from it all but still retain that Disney touch.

Someone asked if we had a dedicated two bedroom. No, I specifically asked for the lock off so our friends could feel like they had their own room apart from us and it worked great! They could come and go as they pleased and so could we.

I can't wait until November so I can make our plans for next year.

Lisa,
Thank you for the report. We, too, love SSR and are proud to say that. We returned from SSR a few weeks ago and are going back for food and wine festival and MNSSHP in a few months. We look forward to being back in our vacation HOME!

Like Sarnia, I will take SSR over any of the other DVC resort. Hello neighbor!!

We probably ran into you on the bus! We also just returned last week from a 7 day trip to SSR. It was awesome! Other than the few temper tantrums from my 4yr old son, which had nothing to do with SSR, we thought it was great!

We just bought into the DVC on our trip in May '04 and we were so anxious to go back. I was extremely pleased at how easy it was to book the trip and get it all set up! We've already got another trip planned for December and we are able to take my brother and his family along as well!

We didn't find any problems with the buses like I've read from some other folks who stayed there, but we did notice that the EPCOT buses seem to come 2 to 1 compared to all the others. But if that's where you were going for the day, it was a plus!

SSR is not our favorite resort, but we enjoy it when we're there. Its nice to know that you can make last minute reservations and at least be able to stay at SSR. There is nothing wrong with the resort. The rooms and the views are nice.

Count me out. I did not like the Saratoga Springs. Not at par with the quality of the neighboring resorts. Most noticeable is the monotonous hallways in each building. The rooms are nice and clean and that is the most I can say about this place.

Everybody has different tastes, but I just don't get the hallway thing. They are just the way to the room. :confused3

I like the fact that they are open to the outside, so you get the fresh air and can see what's going on, rather than being a central hallway in a hotel.

Each to their own I guess, but when you look at how beautiful the resort is, with the lakes and all of the greenery, I'm too busy looking out at it, rather than worrying about a hallway.

Do you mean OKW by neighbouring resort? Quality-wise I think SSR is exceptional. The decor in the rooms is fantastic, the whole place has a feel of quality, the grounds are stunning, it has a top spa, a golf course, table service restaurant opening soon etc etc. I can't see what's lacking in quality compared to neighbouring resorts.

I don't mean to jump on your back because SSR is not to your taste, but it's difficult not to when people using sweeping statements without specifying what they perceive as the problem. Hopefully it's more than just the hallways...

Here is the hallway in CP. Judge for yourselves. Personally, I like SSR. The hallways felt safe. Well lit and quiet. It might be luck, but I never saw any trash in the hallways. I cannot say the same about my trip to VWL.

I personally liked the set up of the hallways at SSR. We were on the ground floor (which was my only initial disappointment with our stay) but enjoyed the open feeling. When we stayed on points at the Grand Floridian 2 years ago we had a room all the way at the end of this massively long hallway and frankly I was tired by the time we reached our room. I would say our villa was the 6th or 7th unit down from the entrance at SSR and the open feel was quite welcome.

I tell you guys, I went with such prejudiced feelings against SSR that I am more surprised at anyone at how much I loved it. I do want to eventually stay at all the DVC resorts but for the next few trips it will be SSR all the way! :lovestruc :lovestruc

We love it, love it, love it! I love the peace and quiet, and the beauty of the grounds. It is so nice to retreat to that after or in between a busy day at the parks. My husband and I are SO happy we bought at SSR. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Since someone mentioned trash in the hallways...this last trip at OKW, the people in the unit next to us kept piling their trash up outside their door (yuck). I figured they must own at one of the Hotel style DVCs. :rotfl: We were on the first floor, the trash room was in a little bit of a strange location for our building, but still under one of the stairwells as always at OKW.

That is the first time in 30+ stays at OKW that I have seen trash pile up like that.

I'm glad you had a great stay at SSR, and thanks for mentioning the courtesy phone ~ I'll look for it next time we're waiting for a bus, although when we went in May, we never waited long.

Our next trip is in July and we'll be staying at OKW to give it a try. We haven't stayed at any other DVC except SSR so far, but thought we'd try them all out at some point :)

Lisa-

We're leaving for SSR on Friday :sunny: . Is there any chance you have any digital pics ready to show us? If it would be easier, you can e-mail them to me (you have my e-mail address) and I'll post them with credit given to you.

Hopeful... :flower3:

Count us among those who enjoy SSR also. In fact my DH and I enjoy something about each of the resorts that we have stayed at (VWL, BCV, OKW, HH, SSR). They all have something different to offer. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
