We just returned from a 5-day stay at SSR. We had some borrowed points we needed to use but our APs expired, so we decided to simply spend the trip relaxing and enjoying the resort! You could say that this was our laziest vacation ever!

We checked in late on Saturday, around 9:15 pm. I was afraid we might get a bad room location since it was so late, but we got the PERFECT location! Our room was in the Grandstand section, in a building right next to the pool.

I loved the Grandstand pool! It was never full, no matter what time you showed up. You could always find empty chairs. Only on one afternoon did I notice that all the tables were being used, though chairs were still available. Every other day, you could grab a table no matter what time you showed up. We swam at the Grandstand pool every day and never bothered with the High Springs pool. Whenever we did walk by the main pool, it looked too crowded for us. The Grandstand has a pool bar and a drink station. DH did call the main desk on Wednesday just before 1:00 to let them know no one had come to open the bar or the drink station. Withing 15 minutes, someone was there and both the bar and drink station were opened.

Our room was clean and we thought housekeeping was great. No problems with trash and towel. Our soaps, cups, coffee, etc. were all refilled. We were in a studio only because we were using up some leftover borrowed points. We are 2 adults and 2 teen boys, and we usually stay in a 2 BR. Of course the 2 BR is better for us, but the studio was fine.

We ate at the Turf Club twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. The meal was excellent both times, as was the service. I couldn't believe how empty the restaurant was for lunch. There were only about 3 other parties there while we were eating. I really wish they would open for breakfast instead of lunch. I find it very disappointing that there is no sit down restaurant that serves breakfast at SSR. A resort that large and so inconveniently located from everywhere else should offer a table service breakfast option. I would love to see the Turf Club open for breakfast.

Since it was a no-park trip, we only dealt with the buses twice. Unfortunately, we didn't have much luck when it came to bus transportation either time. Hopefully that will improve in the near future.

We are BWV owners, but have enjoyed both of our stays at SSR (we were there in March in a GV). Though we will probably head back to BWV for our next trip, I would not hesitate to stay at SSR again in the future. It is a lovely resort, and we had a great trip!

What a nice report! I took a double take as you explained that you usually stay in a 2 bedroom, but this time a studio and it went fine! Wow - did the DS's take turns on the sofa bed?

They did do a little minor complaining, but they actually shared the bed and didn't kill each other. I'm thinking that will be the last time that will happen!

We've been on this heavy borrowing spree for the last couple of years. I think we might take 2009 off from Disney to catch up so we can go back to traveling the way we are most comfortable!

Our DS's are grown and on their own. Our very last trip as a "family of 4" was just before we moved to Ohio, and we "did" the Williamsburg area for a few nights. DS's were 18 and 15, and they wouldn't share a bed. But DH didn't want:confused3 one to sleep in the chair...I went crazy with the crazy DS's and DH...as long as they were quiet, I didn't care what the sleeping arrangements were. I would have given anything to have a DVC villa! The idea came around after our DS's were grown.

Have fun planning whatever vacations you want to take!

What a nice trip!

We had APs run out 2/3s of the way though a trip before. It was amazing how quickly we forgot about the parks. We have a hard time not hitting a park every day, even for only a couple of hours. It was nice to not even consider it.

Glad it worked out well for you!

Great report! Did you get a chance to use the tennis courts or go play some golf? We love being able to do that at SSR! Great place for a relaxing vacation :thumbsup2

Thank you for the happy report! Too many negative experiences get posted here . . . meaning that the good ones don't get posted, and we need to hear about them too.

Great report mouseclick. I love non-park stays. They are not always by choice for us. Sometimes passes are not in the budget. But love them regardless.

Thanks for the report,

Lisa

I do this once a year...just me for 3 nights. Its my sanity trip (for my wife...she kicks me out of the house :rotfl2: ).

SSR is the best location for a non-park visit. Downtown Disney provides plenty entertainment. Nothing beats a good book by the pool in a quiet atmosphere.

I don't think I could ever talk DH into a non-park trip, although I agree SSR is a great place for it (we loved SSR). It's too hard for him, when the parks are right there, beckoning ...

Maybe someday before our membership expires -- let's see we'll be in our 80s then, I think, so it could happen!! :lmao:

This is the kind of marriage I want one day. I know it's not for everyone but I love it. :lovestruc

Great report - thank you! I did a 3-night no park trip at SSR over 4th of July. I've got the FL resident seasonal pass, so summer is blacked out - but who in their right mind wants to be in a park then anyway :rotfl2: ?? I'll do it again next 4th of July, since it'll be a 3-day weekend again.

Hi, We stayed at SSR for 7 nites in July (2 bedroom) same location Grand Stand with the pool right outside of our building. My family and I LOVED this location and the pool area was so nice and hardly used! One day I was the only one by the pool at about 6pm. I do wish that they would keep the bar open a little later. (I think it closed at about 5pm??) My children are older and we dine later so 5-7pm is a perfect time for cocktails by the pool. And I am sure I could get some DVC members to agree with me!!;) Joan

We've found the hours at the Grandstand Bar to vary depending on staffing and demand. We've had CM's stay out there past the posted hours when they had the customers to support it. I'm happy to do my part :drinking1

SSR is a great resort to enjoy and not use the parks. DTD being so close and the great spa-workout area adds to this.

My Aunt and Uncle stayed at SSR in a Grand Villa with their kids who own DVC. They wound up skipping the parks too and LOVED the resort. As their kids and grandkids hit the parks they just sat by the pool and sipped drinks! Their wonderful experience has played a factor in our decision to buy!

The more I read your comments, the more excited I am about a Grand Stand SSR visit. Thanks for all the helpful information.

I see trips like this in our future too. :thumbsup2 WE have stayed at the Grand Stand area two times and LOVED IT. We love that location and will probably always try for that area. Sounds like you went home relaxed and refreshed. I do enjoy the stays at SSR too. Glad you had a nice time and that you had fun without the parks too. :thumbsup2
