We just returned from a 5-day stay at SSR. We had some borrowed points we needed to use but our APs expired, so we decided to simply spend the trip relaxing and enjoying the resort! You could say that this was our laziest vacation ever!
We checked in late on Saturday, around 9:15 pm. I was afraid we might get a bad room location since it was so late, but we got the PERFECT location! Our room was in the Grandstand section, in a building right next to the pool.
I loved the Grandstand pool! It was never full, no matter what time you showed up. You could always find empty chairs. Only on one afternoon did I notice that all the tables were being used, though chairs were still available. Every other day, you could grab a table no matter what time you showed up. We swam at the Grandstand pool every day and never bothered with the High Springs pool. Whenever we did walk by the main pool, it looked too crowded for us. The Grandstand has a pool bar and a drink station. DH did call the main desk on Wednesday just before 1:00 to let them know no one had come to open the bar or the drink station. Withing 15 minutes, someone was there and both the bar and drink station were opened.
Our room was clean and we thought housekeeping was great. No problems with trash and towel. Our soaps, cups, coffee, etc. were all refilled. We were in a studio only because we were using up some leftover borrowed points. We are 2 adults and 2 teen boys, and we usually stay in a 2 BR. Of course the 2 BR is better for us, but the studio was fine.
We ate at the Turf Club twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. The meal was excellent both times, as was the service. I couldn't believe how empty the restaurant was for lunch. There were only about 3 other parties there while we were eating. I really wish they would open for breakfast instead of lunch. I find it very disappointing that there is no sit down restaurant that serves breakfast at SSR. A resort that large and so inconveniently located from everywhere else should offer a table service breakfast option. I would love to see the Turf Club open for breakfast.
Since it was a no-park trip, we only dealt with the buses twice. Unfortunately, we didn't have much luck when it came to bus transportation either time. Hopefully that will improve in the near future.
We are BWV owners, but have enjoyed both of our stays at SSR (we were there in March in a GV). Though we will probably head back to BWV for our next trip, I would not hesitate to stay at SSR again in the future. It is a lovely resort, and we had a great trip!
