we will never(should never say never) stay there again.had a great time and we like everything about ssr.however, you couldn't help but notice the size of the construction going on and it made me wonder what this ' metropolis' would be like when completed.i talked to someone at the front desk about all the construction and found out that there will not be enough pool space once everything is done.i can't imagine how crowded it will be there next summer!so from here on in , we'll be staying anywhere else.i admit dtd was very convenient , as well as road access to parts other than disney.room (2235-dedicated 2 br) was very good.

Can you clarify what you mean. What I mean is, was the noise of the construction bothersome? Or did you just feel that you don't like to stay at a resort while construction is going on because of what it looks like? Or do you feel that the resort, once completed is just too big/spread out than you like? I'm just trying to figure out if you liked the resort and the location, why you would say "never again".
SSR is our home resort and I plan on booking our first stay there tomorrow. So, your post got me thinking, if construction would bother me. We did tour the resort in Nov. and fell in love. Should I request something away from the construction? Is there such a thing?LOL

I think what is being said ( we just returned from our first trip home to SSR last week) that once the entire resort is open, there will be alot, alot of people around. And about the pools, there are 2 open now, the large one and a quite pool. As of now they are not crowded and are real nice. But when the rest of the buildings are open, looks like from the map only one more pool is to be open which could make for a crowded swim.
As for the construction, it didn't seem to bother us at all.

And on another note...
I posted here the other day about my room request. I booked 11 months out, requesting downtown view and non smoking. When we arrived at 6:30pm we were given a room with no downtown view and smoking optional room.
I asked on this board why and the response was "room ready" so what ever room is ready when you get there you get. So keep this in mind. Someone my book 1 month out but arrive at 1pm and get a great room and you get there a little late and get the left overs.

We were there over Thanksgiving and the only time we noticed the construction was waiting for the busses. We are new DVC owners and we LOVED the resort . As far as the pool situation that has been discussed at length on this board. The leisure pools are equally as beautiful IMO which will help keep the main pool from over crowding. My only concern is the restaurant I wish we had a full table service available. Other than that I am very pleased with my SSR purchase. I cannot wait to stay there again We are debating on cancelling our vero ressie to go back to SSR instead.

We arrived at BWV on a Sunday, around 3:00 pm. We were told our room had been assigned, but was "not ready". We were given a card with a number on it to call and get our room assignments. We were told NOTHING about the room. I cannot believe that there was not a single room ready at BWV at 3:00PM (since checkout was at 11:00). My point...I don't think they really use the "room ready" policy. I think (esp. when resorts are at capacity, like they are now) a bigger picture "plan" is used...almost like a puzzle, since so many people are coming and going on different days. They have to make sure they have a room for people without asking them to move mid-stay to accomodate others' coming and going...it must be insane figuring this out!! I can't even imagine!! I was trying to schedule 5 voice teachers into 3 rooms without having them switch in the middle of their day...it was insane!! One person ALWAYS ends up having to be the "floater" to work around others' schedules...but, they cannot do that with guests (I can just hear it..."You'll be staying in 1008 tonight, then 3454 for the next two nights, then....could you IMAGINE!!!) I really think where you get in a room is where the "puzzle pieces" fit for your stay. Now, I do think that room accomodations for each ressie ought to be looked at in the order that they were made...11 month ressies ought to be "placed" in the puzzle before 1 month ressies that are identical...that should be a "no brainer".

But, I am still not sure how WDW does this. When we checked in at VWL last time (at about 5:30 PM) we were told our room had not been assigned (even though they were at 100% capacity)...huh, I thought room assignments were done a couple of days out? So, we got our choice of rooms!! It was VERY nice!!

That's bunk.

High Rock Spring is no smaller than Luna Park at BWV. And the BW main pool services just as many people as SSR's pool when you add together the Inn and Villa rooms at the BW.

SSR has a total of three pools in the first two phases of construction (the 12 buildings either complete or under construction right now.) Phase 3 will add at least one more pool of undermined size / quality.

We visited the SSR main pool in the afternoon last week. The day we visited was the warmest weather of the entire week. The entire pool area (chairs, pool, slides) had no more than 50 people and wasn't anywhere near "crowded." Even if the resort was 4X larger, it would not have been overcrowded on that particular day.

Sure, there will likely be days when guests will have a better experience at a Quiet Pool due to the crowd at HRS, but that's the case at all Disney resorts these days (with the possible exception of SAB.)

Old Key West is HUGE. And it always seems quiet and empty. Peaceful. The only time the main pool has seemed crowded was during a "pool party." So I don't believe any of the predictions by gloom-n-doom ninnies abou SSR being overcrowded.

Don't believe the "pool problem", I think Disney resorts have enough experience to judge the pool capacity vs. resort capacity issue.

As far a construction goes... that will come to an end... er... just in time to start renovation work.

You say "had a great time and we like everything about ssr" but you've decided never to go there again because of the opinion of one individual at the front desk who thinks it will be overcrowded in the future. Don't you think that's a bit extreme? As TJKRAZ pointed out, there are additional pools in the works. Suggest you keep your mind open and keep an eye on SSR on future visits. If you like everything about it, it would be a shame to cross SSR off your list forever.

We have stayed in one of those villas at the far end of nowhere at the BW and we have also walked from Congress Park to the High Rock Springs. It was quicker than the journey from the top floor of the BW. So it really depends on the location of your room.

Some of the SSR buildings will be right across from the main pool.

We just got back from SSR and the construction was no problem what so ever. It's going to be beautiful when it's done. The hike from the 1000 building to the Carriage House is a long one but not bad. Buses were hard to come by at times, but I think that will get better. High Rock Spring is beautiful, as well as the quiet pool, but I don't think capacity will be an issue. I wish that the Artist's Pallette was a bit bigger and that the gift shop was a separate place. It didn't seem like there was enough stuff in it to be a gift shop.

Looks like the only mistake made on the pool was the shape. It should have been shaped like a Volks Wagon Beetle. Daily activity would be let's stuff the beetle, I mean pool.

I'm sure there will be enough pools added as time goes on.
