We just returned from SOG (4days there and 4 at CR) Would be more than happy to answer any questionsprincess:

Okay, enough with the niceties! You want questions and I have plenty!

How was housekeeping? How was transportation? Did you walk to the Poly to use the monorail? If so, where is the path? Where do you access it from? Is it closer from the new section or the old section? Did you enjoy your stay there?

Alright, enough already! More niceties....I hope you enjoyed your stay and I'd love any and all comments you have on the hotel, we are there november 4-13 and I just can't wait!!!

Thanks!

We were at SOG during Charley and I can hopefully help with a few of the questions. We got home 3 weeks ago tomorrow.

Yes there is a store. It has some souveniers and snacks. I saw a lot of water some pop, some milk. A lot of different chips, some things like chicken in a can with some crackers and mayo fir a quick eat, a few types of cereal. The souveniers included some clothing, toys knick nacks. It was quite small.

How was housekeeping?
We had a great maid. She did a great job but we was the end of the line so it was late in the day before she got to us. I do not remmeber getting any animals made from wash cloths like other disney resorts do. We had to pass on housekeeping a couple times because she wasnt there when we came back for a nap for the kids and Grandpa (MY hubby always takes a nap lol) Then Friday the day of the Hurricane they didnt have housekeeping but they brought us towels. We did order an extra pillow the second day and it was brought promptly but they wouldnt take a tip for it. But when we ordered extra towels on Friday of the hurricane (We had a baby and 2 1/2 year old with us so we had to go through lots of towels) and you can tell they was looking for a tip which I gave because in my book to get us 7 extra towels just before the hurricane was above and beyond. I suspect that wasnt even a houskeeping person but a front desk volunteer.

Did you walk to the Poly to use the monorail?
Yes I did a couple times. You walk along the entrance street about 5 minute walk and then you cross the street at a crosswalk. But I have to warn you they dont stop for people waiting for a crosswalk down there. Then you weave through another path that was very lush in landscape and plants. It came out near the water at the rear of the polo and then we cut through, went up the stairs to the monorail. It was a total of 10 to 15 minutes to do all that. There is a guy who will take you to the end of the driveway if you happen to be there when he is. We noticed him going back and forth all day long. You sit in a large golf cart. That saves the first 5 monutes of walking because he lets you off at the crosswalk.

Where do you access it from? Is it closer from the new section or the old section?
We walked out the front door then turned right and started on the path. I would say its the new section because the front desk seems to be in the new section from what I can tell. The frint is in the middle of the resort so I guess it depends on where you room is for if its closer to where.

Did you enjoy your stay there?
We loved this resort. If it were near Beach Club it would be our only choice to stay at. The price is so right and no taxes means much more savings and the room was huge. Because my husband and I rarely go to MK we dont like the location as well. This trip we had our grandkids with so we did MK a lot and it was the best for us this time. We ate at the all you can eat Prime rib and it was so good. I dont eat prime rib but my husband does and he said it was really good. They had enough food to fit anyones taste so I was happy too een though I didnt try the prime rib.

Thanks for the great info! We are going to SOG in January. Does the resort feel "disney-ish?" How luxurious does it feel? Is there any other WDW resort you would compare it to?

Thanks!

Thanks Barbday62 for the info!

disboo - Don't know how Disney-ish the resort is (my first time staying there is coming up in a couple of weeks), but the room I've reserved has two queen beds for a rate of $106/night. I think you have to be in a deluxe resort before you two queen beds at Disney so I'm hoping the room is a great deal!

My only comparrison for Disney Hotels is Beach Club twice and Contemporary once.

I dont get the words Disney when it comes to the hotel because to me it would have Mickey Mouse everywhere to be Disney. LOL. I was surprised to learn that all the Hotels dont look like anohter theme park but they seem to have other qualities to make them Themed. Does this make any scence at all?

I would say its closer to the same feel I got at Beach Club except Beach CLub had a lot more Channels on the TV including Dinsey ones. SOG had the regular disney chanel and another one wiht a lady touring Orlando theme park stuff. The room was so huge. Way bigger than Beach CLub for sure. Oh the Beach Club seemed to carry the theme out side the walls of the hotel like on teh beach and in the pool area and SOG doesnt really do that. The outside of our room was a court yard and I noticed in teh old section it was a court yard, pool and kids play area (That was really nice for my grandaughter. She loves play places) They also had a kiddie pool that was ankle deep which was a nice perk for us, When I say same feel I am talking about walking through the hotel hallways and also sitting in my room.

I did like the no tax thing. It saved us a ton of money on hotel, tickets and stuff we bought at the hotel like meals and at the store.

Our family really enjoyed SOG! We took the bus to Blizzard Beach and Animal Kingdom and did not encounter a problem at all. For our days at Magic Kingdom and to get to Epcot, we walked to the Poly and took it from there. One night on our way back, we actually saw the alligator that lives in water along the pathway. It was dark, but we could see his eyes shinning out from the water. On one other occasion, it was actually resting on the land. Housekeeping was okay, no towel animals or anything fancy done with our kids stuffed animals. Evergreens was nice and reasonably priced placed to eat. My DH and I really missed the refillable mugs we are use to. I was a little disappointed in the lack of friendly attitude of the staff. It was not until one night that we were walking back from Poly and Poly staff member asked if we were staying at SOG and when we responded yes, he said "may I personally thank you for serving our country and protecting my family and I." Did not feel that staff at SOG cared what branch you were from or if you were active, retired, no conversations from any of the staff in that aspect.. I have to say that we prefer our 4 days at CR that we ended our trip with since I prefer the Disney atmosphere! ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

Wow Tinkerbellsfan I cant beleve you didnt get friendly people. We actually found everyone from people we passed in the halls to people we saw in the stores and restaurants to be almost too friendly. My husband was walking back to the room once and passed a male maybe housekeeping or maintenance? Anyway we got the normal how do you do and Hi and he told me Im ready for them not to be so friendly. I wonder if having been through CHarley left some people less than friendly when you was there. Im sorry you didnt get the happy feeling from them like we did.

Im jealous you got to see the alligator. We missed it by 5 minutes according to the guard at the shack. I wanted to get a picture of him. The guard said he was actually on the sidewalk. I think it would have freaked me to death but I would have loved the picture.
