Our flight arrived at 9:10pm, so I knew that would not be the best time of day to get a "choice". I'm so glad we had a ressie because big signs were out in front of the counters "Reservations ONLY, NO Walk ups". I knew then we might be in trouble. Went out to the pick-up area and saw NO VANS. Man working said some were coming in but that we had 2 families ahead of us waiting. (As we were now waiting w/3 kids in the pm: I'm thinking Seinfeld "You know how to TAKE the reservation, you just don't know how to KEEP the reservation!!)

I saw a Yukon sitting WAY far away, so grabbed the National guy and said "Can we have that?" Yes!! He was happy to give us the Yukon, which easily fit our family of 5 plus luggage for the week. Looking over to the other families, some of those big 8-10 seater vans were pulling up for them to drive; YIKES! My DH wouldn't be seen dead driving one of those big things!!

In the past, October has been a somewhat slow month. Not this year! Right now, if you NEED a vehicle, you NEED a ressie!

Yikes! Your post has me worried! We are travelling with 7 in December and have a minivan reserved. We are Emerald Club members so I can just walk to the Minivan aisle, but now I am very worried that we can't get what we need. We need a minivan just by virtue of the number of people we have!

(I need a smilie wringing hands):(

What date did you arrive? There were reports of car shortages earlier this month due to one way rentals during the hurricanes and cars rented by FEMA and those whose cars were damaged in the storms. Hopefully it will be straightened out by December.

We arrived on Oct 15 and rented thru Oct 23rd. The vehicle we ended up with had Jersey plates. I'm thinking lots of travelers were "rebooked" because of the hurricanes.

There were also a few large conventions and a golf tournament. Things are going to loosen up in the rental car world at MCO.
