Just back from POR and still torn between deluxe & moderates!

This was our 11th trip to Disney. We normally stay at a deluxe or OKW, however, this trip (and two in the past at CSR) we opted for a moderate -POR- since it was going to be $130 more a night to do a deluxe. As in the past when we have stayed at a moderate, I felt like I was getting a bargain. One of the ONLY times I have felt as though I was getting a bargain at Disney! The grounds at POR were beautiful. The area with the food court, and the river running around the resort was very nice. Although we requested the AB section, we ended up at the Mansions, and thought they were very nice! The room felt more like a bedroom, than a hotel room, if that makes sense. Very comfortable for a family of four, which included 2 teenage boys. The only drawback was the double beds in the moderates compared to queen size at the deluxe resorts which can be a problem for some people. For the price, I feel you cant beat a moderate. However, after going to our favorite hotels to eat meals, such as the Poly, BC, and WL, I found I really missed being at a deluxe. Bottom line, we will stay at a deluxe in the future if the price is right. However, for this past trip, the WL wanted $60 more a night than what we had just paid there in April during Spring Break! Go figure.

I'm glad you had a good trip. I say if it's important to you then spend the money and enjoy the resort. We stayed @CR once and I just did not feel like the price difference was worth it. Have stayed @value since then and our next trip will be @moderate (CSR) Really looking forward to it. I would love, love, love to stay @GF, but I cannot for the life of me pay the cost even though I think it's worth it. Maybe someday I'll just go for it(when kids are out of college!)

I agree DANAW.

Prior to buying into DVC we pretty much always stayed at Dixie Landings (POR). Then we started staying at deluxes and then bought into VWL.

Last Dec we stayed at Dixie for the first time in about 3 years and I loved it. As we walked around soaking in the wonderful atmosphere I actually found myself saying 'why don't we sell DVC and just always stay here??' Then we checked into VWL and I was torn. But honestly, Dixie, to me, is just a wonderful resort. We won't sell our DVC, but we always enjoy staying at Dixie Landings.

I was very happy with our stay at POR this summer. I felt like the buses were great and the rooms/resort was very nice for the price I paid. This December we are staying at YC and AKL and I will compare how I feel about Mod/Deluxe when we get back.

We'd always stayed at WL and loved it...last year, our trip was more last-minute and we couldn't get anything at WL at an affordable (for us) rate, so did a split stay between SSR (rented points for a studio) and POR (mansions). I fully expected to feel let-down going from more of a Deluxe (SSR) to our 1st ever stay at a MOD--and we HATED the idea of exterior corridors, thinking it would be cheap and motel-like. Well, to our surprise, SSR also had exterior corridors and we liked POR MUCH MORE than SSR. It just felt much more Disney-like and the grounds were so lush and beautiful. I guess because of the double beds, I didn't think the guest rooms were much smaller at all than those at WL. In short, we decided that unless we got a great code for a Deluxe, we'd be perfectly happy staying at POR and wouldn't even feel as though we were making a sacrifice.

It will always be Dixie Landings to me, too. (PORiverside just doesn't roll off the tongue like Dixie Landings does) :goodvibes That was our first on site resort and is very special to us. It will always hold a special place in our memories. :)

:flower: :flower: So we can be the keepers of the saying "Dixie Landings!!" :flower: :flower:

DanaW, I know just how you feel! I have ressies next year for POFQ but would really rather stay at the CR. But even with the AAA discount it would be $120 more a night, and we need 2 rooms. :faint: So unless there is some miracle and a BPR for next October, POFQ it will be. Now I just have to convince myself that I will be happy! ;)

We spent three nights at Dixie Landing :smooth: last week. For our family of 5 it was a great spot. We actually enjoyed the outside corridors. While the kids were falling asleep DW & I hauled the two chairs out of the room, sat on our balcony/corridor and enjoyed the peaceful evening and a nice drink.

As a first timer at Dixie Landing I found the pathways somewhat confusing and occassionally would take the wrong route ... and I know I wasn't the only one as I was stopped by other lost souls looking for direction as well.

The other disappointment was the service in the food court. While the atmosphere was great and the food was good the service was unimpressive and quite slow which I found quite unusual for WDW.

Overall though we quite enjoyed Dixie and would go back.

You are so cool calling it Dixie Landings!! :cool1:

Another keeper of the Dixie Landings name!! Glad you enjoyed your stay.

Here's another one that can't get Dixie Landings out of my head.

About a week ago I was talking to one of the CM to switch resorts for our Dec. trip. She was mentioning how they thought they were finally getting people to use the new name.

Brain lapse. Can't remember what the new name for Dixie Landings is at the moment. :rotfl:

Anyhow we stayed here in October. Fell in Love with the place. Can't get the songs that Bob Jackson sings out of my head. "Who let the dogs out."
Can't wait to go back.

Before this trip the resorts that we frequent were (are) AKL and WL.

After staying at Dixie Landings I'm now turn. Found out that the exterior corridors are no problem and that we love the King bed rooms.

Maybe we can get them to change the name back to

:flower: :flower: Dixie Landings!!! :flower: :flower:

I'll sign too!!! My very first on-site stay was at Dixie Landings, so to me it will always be Dixie Landings! I just wish I still fit in my t-shirt! :rotfl2:

Just back from a stay at POR (sorry folks, never knew it as Dixie ;) ) which was also our first stay at a moderate instead of Deluxe and we loved it! We requested the mansions and got it and can't say enough about this resort (except the night shift at the front desk....another story for another time) But even their incompetence still wouldn't stop me from returning!

You guys are making it so hard! I was just at POFQ and thought it was beautiful. In fact I have it booked for next October. But now I am longing for POR. We have stayed there 3 times and love it! Whats a girl to do??? :goodvibes

well, this will be my first visit back as POR ......loved it as DIXIE LANDINGS....I'm glad to see that many other people wrestle with the conflict of deluxe verus moderate.... I'm still hoping I made the right choice. BF and I are going for Valentine's Day '06 and POR just sounds so romantic....and I figure the money saved on deluxe will be spent somewhere else in Disney...after all, isn't it a sin to go home with money from a vacation??!! lol .....

Why DID they change the name from Dixie Landings? Is there something politically incorrect about the name Dixie? The original name is easier to remember and much more melodic. This was the resort I first stayed at, too, when DL first opened and there was only the Alligator Bayou buildings, as the mansions were still under construction. I was single, and staying alone for a week was a bit strange, but I had a great time. The recepetion and restaurant buildings, the quaint waterfront area, and the grounds blew me away. I had a wonderful, relaxing trip. It will always be Dixie Landings to me! Not that I am remarried, we typically stay offsite at timeshares because we like having the space of an entire condo, but we often stop over for a meal and walk the grounds, stroll along the river, and generally absorb the ambiance. DIXIE LANDINGS is a great resort for the money.

Yes, I believe they changed the name from Dixie because of the political incorrectness of it :confused3 .

To honor Dixie Landings (I will never again refer to it as POR :) ) I have changed my sig!
