First of all I must say it is blantant comments like yours that has gotten many a thread locked.

The mods may very well give you points against you for those comments.

If you get enough points you will be banned from the DIS.

If someone is using a ECV at Disney just because they are lazy I think they would find out after the first day the EVC's are very inconvenient especially at Disney.
Those of us using an EVC seem to become "invisible" since able bodied guests are crossing in front of us, stopping in front of us and never seem to see us until it is time for us to load onto a bus. When we are loading onto a bus that is when we become very visible.
It is very hard to drive an EVC in the crowds in the parks.
It is not easy backing up an EVC onto the bus lift and maneuvering the EVC into the tie down is very difficult. I highly doubt "lazy" people would submit themselves to that for long.
Also EVC rental is quite expensive. My EVC cost over $200 to rent for one week. Most "lazy"people would rather spend the money on other things.
The EVC's that are loaded onto the buses are either privately owned or are rented from an offsite company.
I doubt that "lazy" people would think ahead enough to preorder an EVC from an offsite company.

So please wake up.
Sure there may be a few people who use EVC's because they are lazy but I am betting they learn quickly it not easy or fun to use an EVC at WDW.
I know I wish I did not need to use one but without an EVC WDW would be inaccessible to me.

Just my 2 cents.
Thank you for your 2 cents.
It was not my intention to procure points from the Mods. I didnt think my comments were blantant......just an opinion.
I have every sympathy and respect for people who genuinely need ECV's, however as you stated there are some lazy people too.

"So please wake up."......... why thank you for those kind words.

At least we live in a world where you can have an opinion.

POP used to be my favorite Value resort but it has just gotten way too smoky. I'm not a "resort snob" at all--DH and I go to WDW for 6-8 weekends a year and mostly stay at Values--but there is nobody enforcing any rules at POP. It's really a shame because it's a darling resort with a great food court and fun decor, but WDW has just let it all go up in smoke! It's just a free-for-all!

For the ignorant people criticizing those who use ECVs, I feel qualified to say this with 22 years as a health care professional under my belt: The vast majority of people with disabilities have INVISIBLE disabilities. You cannot look at people and "know what's wrong with them." I have worked as a triage nurse and I can tell you I've triaged people on the verge of death who look perfectly healthy. Please educate yourself rather than spewing hate on these message boards.

I stayed one night at Pop before changing over to the Poly last week. I gotta say that I am glad that I was only there for 1 night. I would have hated my vacation if we would have booked Pop for the whole trip. It was way too cheap looking and the bus transportation was horrendous. I didn't expect much out of it because it is a value hotel but boy was it a complete let down. Our bedspreads were terribly faded, the food court was disgustingly dirty, the food was terrible and the whole resort just felt cheap. I would rather stay off grounds and rent a car if I wanted to save money. Heck, you get better amenities and rooms off grounds for less money. Pop really didn't offer much convenience as far as staying on grounds goes. For our future trips, we will be staying at the Poly. It is well worth the convenience and cleanliness.

I too found myself enjoying this exchange immensely. I was following your train of thought at least, if not your logic, right up until the point you wrote that your ENTIRE point was “how we write things can be interpreted in many different ways, so the onus is on us to be careful how we are construed (or misconstrued) if we want our point to be made as we would wish.” After that statement, it became difficult to seriously entertain the rest of your argument.

By the way, it isn’t just Pop. If you think Pop fans are sensitive, visit a few threads about the notorious pool-hoppers, line jumpers, or mug reusers!

Than it's becoming clear to me that it's time to turn off the terrier mode and agree to disagree. Though thankfully being a wife has made me much better at it than I used to be ;) :rolleyes1 Very seldom do I have to resort to "Nu-uh! Nu-uh! I know you are, but what am I?!" anymore...okay, maybe last Thursday, but I swear that's the last time and a lesson to never mix Mexican Martini's and CNN.

Though I don't know if you want me on MORE debates. The more heated it gets the more I descend into politeness and formality...which is, you know, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. If you want real firecracker fun you'll just have to come down here during a rush hour drive when I start channeling either Kubla Khan or George Carlin. Though line-jumping works too...

we have stayed at pop a couple times and liked it. We didnt use the buses as we had a rental car. I thought the food court was great and the room was small but fine. It was clean and we got towels animals. I would stay there again.

I was just reading an advice column (Dear Abby? Not sure) letter from a poor woman who was tired of the nasty looks and comments she received b/c she had a handicapped parking tag. From the outside she looked like and moved like a very healthy 24-year-old. However, she had a severe allergy to cold! Hence on a cool or cold day the need to park as close to the front door as possible to prevent hives or worse. I know I'd never heard of this allergy, but a little research shows it does exist. Goes to show, there are more things under heaven and earth...

I agree with most of everyones thoughts about Pop. We stayed here for 11 days but things that happened to us from mousekeeping was unacceptable.

As many know we had a Meet and Greet on Sept. 13th at Petals Pool so I made up 25 gift bags and mailed one of those out to a gal that had to cancel her trip so I mailed 24 bags to Pop, when we arrived I got my box with all the gift bags and went to our room I counted all of the bags and there were indeed 24 bags now comes the problem the night before (I believe or 2 nights before)I was putting some last minute touches to them and realized that I was one short now I know I didn't remove it and my bf didn't remove it and that is the only people other than mousekeeping and what makes it really upsetting to us is why take just one??:confused3 but in the end conciege desk gave us a credit but that still to me it helps but I feel violated.

I love the mouse. :love:I have stayed at the Deluxe's and at the Mod's, and been pleased with both. So on our last trip I though I would save some cash and book us at the POP. ACK! :scared: Huge mistake. And I am sure my explanation will not make me any more popular, the resort was great, the staff friendly, the room was what was to be expected, cleaner in fact, and the mattress was better than the average for that price range.:thumbsup2 So what was it, that made our stay so very unpleasant? The other guests! They were rude, noisy, they hung body parts out of their undersized bathing suits while sunbathing, they smoked continually, while walking, eating, drinking, they whole placed reeked of it. And speaking of reeking, yes I know it was the summer in Florida, but why is it that the majority of them seemed to have forgotten to bathe for the last few days?

Now maybe I was just there for a bad week, or I only saw the worst of the population. But I assure you, we will never go back to the POP, and its not anything the good Mouse could have done better.

I was just reading this thread - staying at POP in January. Anyway, saw you were from Ohio too and just wanted to say - GO BUCKS!!!!

My apologies I did not mean to sound so harsh.

You are new to these to boards and may not know the DIS policy,

I was trying to let you know that while you thought your remark was an opinion:

..........
I appreciate that many people require ECV's for medical reasons but some people use them because they are simply lazy (watch these individuals jump out of them and race for food or a ride! Granted they are the minority) or too obese to walk.

others may have read it as a personal attack and might report you to a mod.

BTW:
As has been mentioned most disabilities are invisible.
Many people have limited mobility because of any number of reasons. Most ECV users can get off their EVC's and even walk a short distance, That does mean they mean they do not need an EVC.

After I became disabled and had to use an EVC at Disney I found a lot of guests stared me and made snide remarks that I was "cheating" because I was able to get up off the scooter and walk a few feet to get on a ride.

They did not know that yes, I do have limited mobility but it is very limited mobility I have a spinal disorder and I can walk 50-100 feet before my legs would go numb and would buckle beneath me).

It really did sadden me that others who did not know my situation would judge me.

So I went home and did a little problem solving.

Now when I go to Disney I feel a little better because......

I found something that makes me more at ease using an EVC at Disney .....

I have a handicapped hang tag .(BTW in order to receive one in Michigan I had to take a form to my MD to fill out. They are not given to just anyone who asks for one.)

I took the hang tag and made a photo copy on a magnetic printer sheet.

I cut the tag out. Then I used a hole punch to punch holes in the 4 corners than used some DIS green curling ribbon to tie the hang tag to the basket of my EVC.

It helped me feel a little more comfortable.

Have fun planning your next Disney Vacation!:)

I stayed at pop 2 weeks ago and I thought it was great. I agree that the smoking section is right out the doors and it was a PITA to have to walk through the smoke on the way to my room but what can you do? You can't compare pop to a deluxe or a mod. It is a value and you pay value prices you get value rooms. I would stay there again and I plan too.

I would like to suggest that people who are turned off by all the smoke at POP write a review for Trip Advisor or one of the other hotel review sites. We are all talking about it on the DISboards but I think Disney might be encouraged to enforce their smoking rules if more people would post their reviews.

And ECV-bashing is one of my pet peeves, so here's a copy of something I posted in an earlier thread (for those of you who don't understand hidden disabilities

Speaking as an RN who works in triage, I can say with some authority that the vast, vast majority of people with disabilities have HIDDEN disabilities.

There are a few people with obvious neurological or orthopedic disabilities e.g., severe cerebral palsy, broken limbs, amputations, etc.

But probably 90% of disabilities are hidden--severe heart problems, lung problems, cancer, early stages of neuromuscular disorders (multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, etc.), cystic fibrosis, etc.

So there is really no way to judge whether a person needs an ECV or not. Probably, we should just all try to mind our own business and not speculate, since we know that most disabilities are hidden.

Unfortunately some people use one or two incidents as an excuse to start railing against people with disabilities, implying they're not disabled enough to use ECVs or whatever. I'm sure the people who do this don't realize how little they truly understand about disabilities, which is why I feel compelled to point out that most disabilities are hidden, no matter how much people feel they can judge another person.

For instance, many hidden disabilities (such as spina bifida and muscular dystrophy) can result in obesity. I'm sure the people who rail against obesity don't realize the full extent to which the other HIDDEN disabilities contribute to obesity. Another example is congestive heart failure--I've met several people with CHF who have trouble controlling their weight because they are unable to exercise. I could go on and on with examples, but I won't.

I think we can all educate ourselves (I know that working in triage has been a HUGE eye-opener for me) and try to view other people with an open mind and an open heart, rather than assuming we can just judge them on the basis of how they appear to us.

I have to say, I have never seen such debates over little things on what is supposed to be a vacation. Fights over tables, get over it and move on. how do you let something so petty bother you to the point that it still has to be debated after the vacation ends.

Everything on thi sboar danymore turns into a smoking debate. Disney has restricted smoking to a few small areas. Yes, in those areas there will be smokers - more concentrated than before. Nonsmokers need to just avoid those areas - find different paths or entrances to use. WDW is a big place and smoking areas occupy a very small portion of it. Can we stop making everything a smoking debate with people saying ALL smokers are rude or ALL smokers break the rules. That is like saying all nonsmokers are overbearing, self-rightous idiots preaching endlessly on and on and on.

Beer Pong at the pool? Big Deal. Disney is for everyone and people need to stop trying to get Disney and everyone there to conform to their narrow view of how things should be and what is right or wrong.

Resorts are differnet and so are people. Everyone will like different things. There is no reason to get defensive because someone criticizes "your resort." Anyone with common sense shoudl realize any of the reviews/comments are opinions and not allow the opions of others to shape their vacation.

All I can say is that I felt we were staying at a Super 8.

I just had to laugh when I read this because I worked for Super 8 in their corporate marketing department for several years and I stayed in a lot of Super 8 motels... so while I think Super 8 is a good company with a loyal following, I would have to say that few of their motels are as nice as Pop Century.

Even though I am a Pop lover, I know exactly what you mean - it's definately a "motel". For those that prefer a few more amenities and are used to staying at one of the "inn" brands (ie Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, etc.) you might find Pop to be below your standards.

Off topic....
O-H-I-O

GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey man,

Sorry for hanging my parts. Why the heck were you looking. I thought I saw you checking my rolls out.

Hey let's go chain smoke and eat some cheeseburgers and other greasy food from the crowded food court. There is a new section for us folks, where we can eat in the nude. Branv is already there, she is holding a table for us. Let's go before she starts debating with the table next to us.
