Just back from POP - I'm now officially a POP snob!

Thanks for this thread. We will be staying at POP 8/21 - 8/27. I had first booked one room at POR for our party of 5, but decided at last minute to change to two rooms at Pop for more space and beds. At first I had a hard time being excited over Pop but after reading all the great posts in this thread , I'm just as excited to stay at POP as I was to stay at POR!! I can't wait , we fly out in 18 days!!

Does someone have a link to where I can find what areas are preferred and what are standard?

I thought I had originally read that 50's facing the lake was preferred--but a poster up above says there aren't any. That's what I requested and we paid for preferred!

Here's what I would like if someone can help me out----I'd like facing the lake with possibly a view of the fireworks, quiet, and close or semi-close to the bus stops and hall. Which area should I ask for when we get there in THREE days! :cool1:

the lake had turtles. now not nice ones - they had eaten most of the fish.

I would think these things would bite the ducks too.

anyway don't let the kids put their hands in the water or near it. these are snapping turtles I think. (okay don't know one turtle from another)

when Disney still had the fish feeders - I wonder why no birds or fish were coming to get the food. shortly I knew about 10 turtles started to eat it.
they were just slower getting there than the fish or birds would be.

ask Disney to put up some turtle feeders - and that is when all the feeders were removed from the parks, resorts, BW, and DD.

one of these days I will learn to speak my mouth shut.

anyway the turtles seem to be a home.

it definitely had bunnies, and those fishing birds - but not many as WL. I guess it is more open area than these birds like.

this is a value resort. So the preferred areas are the ones close to the food court. with Pop on the 50's side that includes being close to the swimming pool not lake.

standard room are lake view, parking lot view.

preferred rooms are close to the pools and food court - must be both.

Glad to hear you enjoyed POP. We'll be back there in nov, our trip in 2004 had a few days at POP too. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw...what flavor frozen cokes are there?

We just returned from a 5 night stay at POP (7/26 - 7/31) :sad1: We stayed in the 60s, 1st floor, facing the lake and the empty Legendary Years buildings. It was a great location, very quiet at night, far enough away from the ding of the elevators, and we got the connecting rooms we had requested.

This was our first trip really exploring (eating) at other resorts. We visited Poly for our Ohana Character Breakfast and we had the clam bake dinner at Cape May at the Beach Club. After three years in a row of staying at POP and after getting the feel for some of the higher end hotels (and knowing the price you have to pay to stay there) I can honestly say, I LOVE POP!!

I love the feeling of being totally immersed in all things Disney that you get when you stay at POP. The resort feels like home to me, having stayed there three years in a row. I know where things are, I know what the room will be like, I know I can stay longer at the lower prices and I know they'll always have Twinkie Tiramisu! The gift shop is fabulous and much less overwhelming than WOD. You can get a whole box of donuts for ONE snack credit! They have frozen COKE!! My room was by a giant can of Play-doh!!! Come on now, where else could you find that!?!

So, yes, I've officially become a POP snob. I love POP! It's my resort of choice (unless I win the lottery then you can find me over at the Grand Floridian :))!!

We leave in a little over a week and it will be our second stay at Pop. It is a great resort and you have to love all the theming. :thumbsup2

We will be looking for your pictures over on the Pop Picture thread. :goodvibes

You guys are pretty funny, staying in a value resort and calling yourselves snobs lmao!!! :lmao: Don't get me wrong I have stayed at AS Movies and loved it myself. We have since bought into DVC and love that too, definately don't consider ourselves snobs though. I just thought it was amusing that people staying at the lowest cost resort would consider themselves snobs ahahah!! I would think that title would be reserved for people staying at the Grand Floridian.:lmao: More power to you all though, enjoy!!:cool1:

The frozen coke flavors they had were regular coke and some glowing neon blue color. I didn't try the glowing one, but the regular coke was very refreshing to drink while sitting by the pool! The machines were down occasionally just FYI.

I believe the blue frozen drink was blue raspberry.

It is down a lot because the machine has to make the drinks and they get used up. We were able to get one at breakfast every morning (when we went early) and in the afternoons. During busy times the machines would be regenerating. I think they should get a couple more of these because those drinks were VERY popular.

Not to mention that there's not a bad view anywhere in Pop. Unlike the more centralized higher priced resorts, the view doesn't suck. After reading that thread of "horrid views", I didn't see one post that had to do with a value resort. Just places like, for instance, WL with it's "infamous" roof views and dumpster views. None of that over at Pop!!! The worst you'll get is a view of the parking lot.... I had a nice view of trees outside my room last year. :cool1:

Good idea. I'll start working on the handshake when I get there in 10 days. I will have to get my inspiration from a few Pina Coladas and a Lava Lamp. You can work on designing the Tee Shirt. LOL.

Hippie Dippie Pool here I come.:hippie:

what a fun thread!! :thumbsup2

Just had our first stay at POP a few weeks ago...and I'm sure it was just the first of many!! There's so much left for me to see and try there (including the twinkie stuff, which was sold out the 2 times I checked for it :faint:)

I'm jealous of all of you heading there soon!!

Isn't it so hard to come down from being at Disney? I LOVE the planning and anticipation and, of course, actually being there, but always DREAD getting back to real life. Even if it will be a few (or more) years until we go back, I have to immediately start planning. My DH doesn't get that, but he puts up with it. I'm loving this outlet since I'm so obsessed & still have until June 2008 to return.

You really do feel a part of the magic at POP while you're there!:wizard:

Cheers,

Susan

It sounds like Pop has alot of activities... Does anyone have the schedule for these activities? Or do you get it when you check-in?????

We are arriving on 8/24 at 9:30am, and would love to plan our first day at the resort!

No, no, no! Not garden-variety snobs - we're RESORT snobs! :teeth: We all feel Pop Century is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and can't understand why anyone would want to stay anywhere else!

Oh? Are you sure you're going to remember the handshake after those Pina Coladas? ;)

We just got back from our first trip to Disney and we loved POP! We did pay for a preferred room because I wanted to be close. We requested a first floor room opening to the pool. The kiddie pool was right outside our door and we never had a problem with noise at all. We couldn't hear a thing. The blue frozen drinks were great. I must have had a million! DS5 loved the arcade, he and DH had together time there while I took DD2 back to MK one night to see the princesses. I can't wait to go back.

WOW!! I think you all have us convinced to switch for our next trip!! Two quick questions.....1) Are the Coke icee's with the refillable mugs? ( if so can we get a pina colada one?) and 2) do the high school groups tend to stay at the POP as much as at the All stars?

thanks for all the reviews!

There was a chalk board by the Goofy splash/play area and I remember that the Big Wheel races in the 70s area was around 10:00 am (we were never around for those), and then around 2:00 was a water balloon toss by the main pool, and at 3:00 was bowling by the 50s pool. There were other things, but I don't remember.

When we checked in (Wed. at 11:30 am) they had towel animal demonstrations in the lobby outside of the Pop store.

We did not get a schedule of activities, we just saw them listed on the board by the Goofy area.
