Just back from Pop Century!

Hmm, another thread on this board says that construction's started on the legend building. Can anyone here confirm or deny?

The construction had begun but apparantly has been halted. When we were there last May the exteriors were finished minus the final paint and icons. Not sure how much was done inside, but they had the cable company there and phone company working inside.

Last Feb the facade was up - sounds like something els was going on if the cable and phone co were there in May!
There was a really funny comment about what to call the icons...thougt it was on this thread, but cannot find it right now...it was pretty funny though!!!

I'm curious as to what icons they're going to use for that side of the lake. I was trying to think what pop culture items were iconic during the 1900's through the 40's but nothing is popping into my head that makes much sense.

Possibly automobiles for the earliest years. Baseball was huge in those days. Flappers dancing in the 20's section? The Wright Brothers. They should do a lounge with a prohibition theme You have to know the password to get in.

I can't remember the complete list... but stairwells, icons, and other items will include:

Transistor Radios
Televisions
Howdy-Doody
Candlestick Telephone
Steamboat Willie
Crayola Crayons
Tinker Toys
Life-sized Monopoly board
Life Saver shaped pool
Coca-Cola contour bottle shaped pool
Route 66 sign shaped pool

They want to make sure that the tourism is back in full force, so that they do not steal business from other resorts like the All-Stars.

Thanks for the reply. Although, I think it is kinda crazy. They at some point are going to compete with the other value resorts whether it is opening day or not. We love Pop so much, I really don't see us staying anywhere else anytime soon. LOL It's nice to have an insiders view of things. (Even if it is a former view LOL). Thanks for the info you are a great source!
