just back from POLY It was O.K.

Direct From The Jersey Shore: Best Bug Repellant: Rolling Rock Beer. Drink at least 2 bottles the night before, and PRESTO next day not one flying insect will come near you. Matter of fact no walking ones either. Its amazing, the more you drink this stuff the more stuff will stay away :-)

My brand new husband and I just got back from a magical, wonderful honeymoon trip. We stayed at the Polynesian for over a week and absolutely LOVED it. To those who said they did not like it, I'm really sorry and hope you find a Disney Resort more to your liking. But I had to respond once I saw folks say they were thinking of reconsidering where they were going to stay based on the bad reports. We knew we wanted to stay at PR after visiting 'Ohana during last year's trip and falling in love with the resort. We researched the resort and which longhouse we wanted to stay in thanks to Tikiman's wonderful site, and my husband faxed in a request for Tokelau before we left. Our room and view was fabulous, service was Disney's finest, and the resort has (IMHO) the two best restaurants onsite. This trip to Disney was supposed to be our last for a while, as there are a lot of other places I've never been, I'd like to go on a cruise someday, and my Las Vegas fix is long overdue. But while I was there, all I could do was agree w/ J, why go anywhere else??

For those who have trips coming up soon, I do have some advice. I highly recommend faxing in a room request. Be creative in your letter and extremely nice. The hotels on the "TTC/ Contemporary" side of the resort are all fine... but I'd recommend avoiding the ones on the "Luau Cove/ Grand Floridian" side for now. As somone mentioned, in that area there were walls up and it was a confusing maze when we were walking back to our hotel from the GF one day. I'm sure the buildings are just as nice as ours on the inside, but the walls are a bit annoying.

I love tikimans site it is the best.

I must Say that I am not sorry that we stayed at the Poly, we had a great trip. There was just something that didn't do it for me-I can not put my finger on it.

I would stay there again. If you have plans to stay there I would do it.

The BEST mosquito and NO-SEE-UM repellent is AVON's SSS bath oil. I have no idea WHY this works more effectively than OFF/DEET, but it does. Especially on the No-See-Ums! I have also been bitten by the Green-eyed Fly of Florida (just off the friendship launch area @ MGM studios-dusk), which was excruciating! They have MANDABLES/PINCERS, and like the mosquito, it's the female which bites.

It is definitely of concern for anyone susceptible to mosquitoes, to wear repellent (West Nile Virus), both early morning, afternoon and especially evening. I did not mean to cause anyone IRE over the Poly-mosquito comment. It's just the POLY is more "conducive" to the environment necessary for these insects to thrive. Water, and lots of tropical foliage assist in the production of these pests. I was actually attacked in the LOBBY, at the FRONT DESK in the EVENING. The front desk associates all proclaimed they WEAR OFF as part of their evening uniform! The mosquitoes are drawn inside through the large expanse of electric doors, where they locate hosts (and seemingly loiter in the tropical plants near the inside atrium area).

Here's some info on the SSS oil:

lizzie64...my DD is a mosquito-magnet as well, and can not tolerate the "thought" of hosting these pests! She can hear them "buzzing" around her, and keeps moving to avoid them. The mosquitoes in FLA are huge, and a few could probably "carry her away" (LOL). Perhaps we are more aware of them, as we are completely "mosquito-free" here in So. Cali! We sit outside every night, year-round, w/o a SINGLE BITE! God Bless Cali. ;)

WDW should invest in some Dragonflies, as they are the consumate "obliterators/exterminators" of mosquitoes! :)

For those who are thinking about changing their ressies because of what someone else wrote: DON"T :D :D :D

You are reading opinions of others - that is, people that you don't know and don't know their tastes. While you can value the majority's opinion, the only way you will truly know if a resort fits your personality and family, is to try it out yourself.

Right now there is another thread about which is better: Poly or GF. Well, the GF is getting a bad rap and while I haven't posted on there, I would say how much I love the GF. But it's right up my alley. I love Victorian elegance (even tho I'm a middle-class mom!! :D ), didn't find it stuffy and my kids were very welcomed there.

We are trying out the Poly for the first time. I've probably read equally as many number of positives as negatives. We'll know in about 2 weeks whether we'll go back or not ;) .

I hope the mosquito thing is fixed because I am a mosquito magnet too. Although we have stayed at the monorail resorts 3 times, all in May, and I have never been bitten. Bringing my bug spray.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Anna is right. The very reason Disney has so many different resorts and themes is to appeal to a variety of people and their wants.

I personally can't stand chocolate ice cream. That does not make it bad, just does not appeal to me.

Not liking the Polynesian is acceptable. Everyone has to decide on what their personal choice is.

dreamflight: only the pony bottles of Genny cream Ale, but not as effective:)

 What, no hot tub @ the Poly. Oh, this is a disappointment:earseek: What am I going to do?

I don't blame you about the mosquito's that would be enough to damping my vacation too. There is a lot of shrubbery at the Poly for them to breed and hide in. I do think Disney should be taking care of this problem on a regular basis not waiting until the problem is out of hand.

Although I love the Poly and find it a magical resort, I know there are some who don't. Then again I love all the Disney Resorts. My children love the All Star's and there price. There are pro's and con's on each resort.
