Hi,
We just got back from 5 nights at POLY, stayed in Rapu Nieu, Garden View.
Location is great.
Transportation was great.
Volcano slide is a lot of FUN.
View of MK, GF and CR were wonderful.
Enjoyed fireworks from Beach and Electric Water Parade nightly.

Room was large, big closet, 5 drawers, nice balcony....but...
I personally think it is TOO dated. I can only compare it to old Waikiki, not any of the nice resorts on MAUI or KAUI. I know it isn't HAWAII, but I expected nicer for a DLX from DISNEY.
There was construction going on, and although we heard no noise from it, we did have to walk a bit further because paths were closed.
Also the volcano pool is nice, but I am sure during crowded times they do not have much area for relaxing around the pool. The pool offers life vests for children, but they must be turned in when lifeguards go off duty (about 8PM).
Food court menu VERY limited.

We had a wonderful time, but do not plan on going back to POLY again.

It's not a popular opinion on these boards but I agree with you.

Glad to hear you had a great time!!

Thanks for sharing! I agree with you too--though I haven't stayed at Poly in awhile, it wasn't that thrilling for me when I was there. Glad you had a nice trip overall though!

I know what you mean, There was just something about the poly that kinda of disipointed me, & I still do not know what it was.

I think they need a Hot tub/spa.

Hi,

I just got back from 4 nights at the Poly and 5 nights AKL.

While I loved the Poly, it truly is beautiful. The rooms are large. We stayed ground floor Tahiti and walking out onto the beach is wonderful.

I must agree though, I was a little disappointed. Hubby doesn't understand the no hot tub thing, but, for me I just can't put my finger on it.

When we moved over to AKL - That really blew me away. We loved AKL

It's been a while since we stayed at the Poly, but I have to say...for me...it was the MOSQUITOES! They bit me in the lobby, outside, everywhere I walked. I was a veritable "buffet" for these pests. I also, was very disappointed in the amount of time we had to wait for BUS transportation (without any seats/shade). Not fun. I did love the shops, restaurants, and overall theme of the resort. Would I go back again? You betcha! But this time, I'd be the girl in the "mosquito-net bubble!" LOL. :p ;)

My daughter actually counted the bites she had. She was up to 40 by the time we switched over to AKL.

Did you see those moth looking things that bite. Ouch!!

You guys have me worried. I had myself convinced on the Poly, but it sounds like AKL might be a better bet. We probably won't stay at a deluxe again (just taking advantage of FTP this time around), so I really want it to be a wonderful experience for my family. Would AKL be more wonderful than Poly??

lexiluke...I would not panic. There are bad posts about every resort. It happens. But the majority of the posts are good about all the resorts.
The FTP is a good price for the Polynesian and I think you get a better deal on the deluxes over the WL and the AKL. The WL and AKL have had really good room rates lately.
so if this is a splurge trip....stay at the Polynesian. You won't be sorry.
We honeymooned there and it was perfect. :smooth:

like I said at the beginning, we did have a good trip..
My husband did miss the Hot tub. It is a nice resort, but IMHO I didn't think it was up to Disney standards for a Deluxe property.
I know people love it, & would truely be dissappointed if they changed anything. That is fine with me. We will just get to try another hotel next time.....Can't wait to go back.

I was disappointed with the Poly too, I don't know if it was because I had read so much about it before or not.

The room size is nice, I loved the mostly marble bathrooms and the transportation via the monorail is great.

But other than that, all those dark earthy colors just bring me down.

Personally, I prefer a lighter pastel color scheme.

My DH on the other hand loves the Polynesian.

Between the Dolphin and the Poly, I'll go with the Dolphin every time!

I think it's the fact that its look and decor are so dated that has deterred my DH and me from staying there so far. We'd love to stay concierge in one of the deluxe's next time, and SO many people have posted that the Polynesian has a wonderful concierge service, but it reminds me of the Brady Bunch episode in which the family went to Hawaii!;)

Groovy!

I hate to say this but Disney is becoming way to irresponsible if they are not able to spray for mosquitoes.Right now there are certain mosquitoes that are carriers of a very bad Viirus amd Disney should not let their guests be exposed to this problem!!

We are in the process of planning another trip & we were thinking of going to the poly but now I'm having second thoughts! I am a mosquito magnet! I couldn't even enjoy our woods view balcony (with a castle view) @ WL because of those pesky little critters!! I may be asking for it if I stay @ the poly!! Thanks for the warning!!!!!!!!

Brady Bunch comment...LOL phyllis1966!;)

Odd -- we were at the Poly last September for 10 days and I don't think I ever saw a mosquito. At least I was never bitten by any at the Poly. Oh well, I guess some people are just mosquito magnets.

For those of you worried about mosquitos, they do sell sun screen with unscented bug repellant in it. Although I've never used it, I have friends that swear by it.

We've stayed at the Polynesian in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, October, November and December... nearly 30 trips in all. We have never had a problem with mosquitoes. The only time we had a problem was at FW one year in early June. It sounds as if there has been an outbreak in the last couple of weeks but I'll bet it was the same at all the resorts and that Disney did spray in response to it. Sounds like Lizzie just hit the Polynesian at the wrong time.

Actually BCV it was dreamflight that brought up the problem with the mosquitos, So it wasn't just me. I mentioned that my daughter did have 40 bites in 4 nights.

No Lizzie I didn't mean it was just you although I couldn't remember who else mentionned it. Nor am I implying it wasn't a problem for you...40 bites is a problem.:D I was just trying to reassure people that it isn't the norm at the Polynesian. I also don't think it would be a problem isolated to the Polynesian when an outbreak or whatever the right term is occurs.

Our last trip, we reversed the order of your trip. I spent two nights solo at AKL then the rest of the troops arrived and we were at the Polynesian for 8 nights. Neither was concierge though. Loved them both.

I stayed at the Poly last Thanksgiving and didn't enjoy it at all. Yes the large room and bathroom are great, but the place depresses me. I don't think its the coloring because I adore AKL and WL too.

Wouldn't want to stay there again; although my friend wants to go back. She loved it! C'est la vie!

I'm one who always dreamed of staying at the Poly, and after being a DVC member for the past 2 1/2 years, finally tried the Poly this past winter. I was worried that after being accustomed to the villa type accomodations, I'd be dissappointed in the Poly. I was also worried that it would not live up to my expectations.

Well, it was WONDERFUL! I loved it as much as I'd hoped, and though I did miss the kitchen and the in-room jacuzzi, I still loved the size and theming of the room and the marble bathroom. It felt very luxurious to us.

We were in a longhouse which had been refurbed, and away from the construction at the time of our visit. We were in Aoteroa, and it was perfect in terms of closeness to the GCH, the beach, the pool, the bus stop, everything.

It probably helped that it was a slower time of year and we loved the uncrowded feeling.

The great thing about WDW is the variety and suiting of everybody's tastes.
