Just back from Poly Concierge and VERY VERY disappointed

I really don't know what side of this I fall on,lol! I agree that some of the expectations for conierge are getting unreasonable BUT then again I think the rate that WDW charges for concierge is also unreasonable. I always think if I want to stay concierge it won't be at WDW where we are off to the parks etc.... I am sorry to hear of the problems at the Poly its not the first time .

So sorry to hear about you stay at the Poly. This is one of my favorite resorts. I was wondering how this move was going to work out.

I still feel the Tahiti building is a little far for concierge and it sounds like it's in need of a refurbishing. To me I would have thought thay would have redone this building over before the move.

While I have never stayed concierge, I do feel for the extra money, you should be getting good service. There should be no cutbacks in this area. You are paying for a service that you did not receive. Putting out a few rolls and some dry cereal for breakfast with paper plates and paper napkins is not concierge in my book.

We will be traveling to Italy this fall, even with a weak dollar, for the price of Poly Conceirge, I can stay in the best hotels, 4 and 5 star. With breakfast buffet's from soup to nuts.

I would write a letter stating my disappointment in the Poly's Concierge Service, and why I was so disappointment.

There have to be a ton of people like me that wanted to book concierge at Polynesian with the FTP. But, we didn't. Instead, I added our arrival night (we were booked at AllStarSports). Dh said to spend the extra that way instead of moving from resort to resort. I'm really sorry to hear that so many of you are not having the experience you have heard about on these boards. Hopefully, when Hawaii gets finished things will get back to normal.
Have any of you had less than perfect experiences in the non-concierge longhouses??

I think the dissapointment comes in when comparing it to past concierge experiences in the Hawaii building. That's the way it is for me anyway, I am hoping next year in the new building will be awesome.:D

I really feel your pain--and I too am a loyal Polynesian concierge devotee! LvsTink is correct--at least from my reading--the problems are primarily voiced by those of us with past experience at Polynesian in concierge service.

I wrote after our trip about all of the same complaints the OP mentions: moldy room to paper plates/plastic silver. . .hopefully this will be resolved by the return to Hawaii--it had better anyway! ;)

Loved the analogy and it's a pretty fair assessment. While Polynesian certainly isn't as formal as GF, for example, you do expect a bit more than overcrowding, paper products, and lacking service. . .

Maybe next year it will be better--fingers crossed anyway!

I'm very sorry your stay was disappointing. I've never done concierge at Disney myself but your description is definitely far below my expectations for concierge service.

Hopefully these problems will get resolved when they return concierge to its proper location, as I have been used to reading very good reviews of the concierge service at the Poly, in the Hawaii building.

I would write a letter, if I were you.

We are staying GV Concierge in early Nov. for our 20th Anniversary trip. I have been wondering whether or not to upgrade to LV but after reading these posts I'm not even sure about staying concierge at all! This is a once in a lifetime treat for us and when I booked our room back in March it sounded wonderful. I know the rehab is supposed to be complete in Oct. Does anyone know if they are on schedule? Do you think the problems are primarily caused by the change in buildings? How was the service in Hawaii right before the move? Also, we are staying 10 nights. Is it crazy to stay 5 nights GV and then move to LV in the same resort? DH was on the fence about concierge to begin with so if this bombs out guess who will be in the doghouse this vacation!!!!

Poly concierge has a pretty good track record... very few complaints and rave reviews... the serious problems of late started with the move to Tahiti... there seems to be just too many people to look after in that buiding without adequate facilities.

The paper plate thing must be due to lack of facilities to wash dishes like in the Hawaii - I can't think of any other reason.

Having said that - the guests are also realizing that there is too many people and they are starting to react to it by hoarding, etc... I don't think people would do this if there was adequate offerings ~ well maybe the odd one ~ but not to the extent that we are hearing.

One other thing - and this could happen at any resort - with the FTP more people are able to justify the cost of staying concierge and more people are booking it that could not afford to in the past. Many people upgraded from moderate & deluxe bookings to concierge when the FPT came out.

Some of these people want to get their moneys worth out of COncierge and are making sure they are taking advantage of everything offered. Concierge is not as exclusive anymore as more people are able to afford it, hence the overcrowding.

I feel badly for the Poly people - the first timers probably do not realize the difference, but the repeat guests are sure noticing.

I am staying concierge at BC & AKL in a couple of weeks - I am hoping it won't be crowded because of the FTP. I have just read a negative report on YC Concierge and it seems service is lacking there big time - I am not sure of the cause.

If I had the choice I would have rather paid full price for better service than FTP prices for overcrowded conditions and cut backs in service.

Crossing my fingers...

I know that this Concierge Debate has been around for a while but, while discussing our past visit this weekend with my husband we both kept coming back to one thing. MANNERS!
Concierge "Expectations" seem to be set by each hotel chain or Company. Disney has set the rules and with many people passionate about Disney we tend to splurge on certain trips for whatever reason. The food opinion differs from person to person, personally I feel it's all in what each person likes. We have stayed many times and had many experiences, All Wonderful just a few rude CM's. One of our "Big" deals is Room Condition. Some people really don't care about the room and just want a Bed to sleep in. We don't, we feel that paying more per night does entitle us to a "CLEAN" room. That includes clean linens, clean bathroom (no mold), clean walls, no garbage under the furniture and working fixtures. I don't feel that this is being unreasonable. Do you? As for the Concierge thing, we feel that we are to assume that the food offering (NOT MEALS) should be there during the times they say, and we should not be made to feel uncomfortable when asking for a Soda. (Remember, Disney and others have set the food offering thing up a long time ago)
The Castmember is where we REALLY STRONGLY feel it is a hit or miss for your OVERALL experience. All we ask is that they treat us as nicely as we treat them. In past experiences, we have mailed the CM who helped do any PS's a little "Thank You" gift in appreciation for their help. Then when we leave we always leave each CM a little "Thank You" note with a little something in it. We feel we do go above what most guests do. CM's are allowed to have a BAD day, just don't take it out on US. We pay to be there, they are paid to help us, NOT to be a servant but to help when needed. So we just feel that if these resorts are going to charge top dollar for Concierge then they should put a little more attention into the conditions of the rooms and just make sure the CM's are polite. Which brings me back to the original statement about Manners. Several CM's seemed to be lacking Manners. Some where just off in la la land. We always say Please, Thank You, Excuse Me, Your Welcome, Bless You and many other little words that mean so much. Even my 6 1/2 & almost 2 yr. old dd's use those little words. If spoken to we always acknowledge the person and don't pretend that we didn't see them. So if the few Rude CM's just remembered how they would like to be treated on their own Vacation, maybe they would not have people like us talking about this. The old phrase "A little goes a long way" works the same for Rude people. Rude people can be a little bit of a bummer when one is on vacation. It's like getting behind that one person on the freeway that thinks he or she OWNS the road and drives like a wild person. So bottom line if the CM's just remembered that we will treat them the way that they treat us, then we will all be treated GREAT in the end. (Sadly, I do know that there are those few people that go expecting them to Cater them but that's another debate) Sorry so long. I have been wanting to vent for a while now.

I have to say..... I have stayed concierge 4 times at the YC, 2 times at the Poly, and one time at the GF,
I have never encountered an experience such as this past trip at the YC. We had a wonderful time, the cm's are the best! they treat us so amazing, we are "regulars' now, and are very appreciative of the cm's going out of their way for us. The guests on teh other hand were incredible, they were piling food high on their plates, barefoot, half dressed, children running around unsupervised wildly, it was horrible! I saw people filling plates and plates of food, like they were trying to feed dinner to a family of 5, and bring it back to their rooms, in the morning, I saw a woman with about 12 donuts on her plate, she made 3 trips from her room to the lounge to carry back all the lounge; one morning, it was 10:25am, 5 minutes before breakfast ends, the coffee urn was empty, a man tried to get coffee, it was empty, he mumbled curse words and stormed out of the lounge.... I then went over to a cm and asked for some coffee, within 30 seconds they were filling the coffee pot. why cant people just act like human beings without throwing a hissy fit over a small solvable problem..?

the cm's were trying their best to keep the food replenished and everything in order, it was unbeleivable, I felt bad for them.
my dh and I went to the lounge in the morning only. everytime we passed by in the evening, there were so many people in the lounge I wouldnt go near it. This has to do with the FTP, and so many people who think it is about breakfast lunch and dinner, and yes, wine....
concierge should be about pampering and extra luxury, not about counting pennies...
sorry, flame me, but I had to vent, after 7 concierge stays, 4 at the YC, it had to be because of the FTP, the cms were the same, I know them all, that hadnt changed.
so, for all you Poly lovers (I love it too) be patient, it will go back to normal!!! :)

I've stayed concierge many times as well. There are always people trying to make meals out of the offerings. It's not just the FTP guests who do this. FTP made others try concierge for the discounted price. Therefore, there was just MORE PEOPLE in concierge. If the resorts are not prepared for more people, don't blame the cm's OR the guests.
