Just Back from POLY/AKL Concierge...Any Questions???

we were booked for three nights at the Poly and when we got there they were overbooked and sent us to the completely awful Contemporary. It was so awful I will never return. Even the Polynesian is not what it used to be.

Overall, a complete nightmare vacation because the Disney folks screwed it all up.

Do tell, Jacking_Man,

What happened? Are you going to be posting a new thread about your experience at WDW?

I keep getting more and more excited the more I read! I've even been to AKL before, but seeing it through my son's eyes will make it all that more enjoyable! He's also only been to Swan concierge and the normal "European" concierge, so Disney concierge will be quite the treat for him. (Plus, he's forced to use all of his best manners to make his mommy proud!) :)

We're planning some of our PSs now, and which parks to be at on which days... two weeks and we'll be there!

I have only been on Uzima savannah, and have checked out the middle savannah numerous times during my first trip. Is it true what I have read on another thread that the sunset savannah doesn't have as many animals as close for viewing? I think I would almost prefer a room way out on the ends, even with the walk. That was where my room was my first stay and it was great to wake up and only see savannah outside my room, no other hotel rooms in sight, with the mist slowing rising.

Great information here!
Happy New Year!

Debbie,

Drink a cappucciano at the AKL Concierge for me. Be sure to sprinkle some cinnamon on top!

Just wanted to chime in on how great AKL Concierge was. I never got around to posting after my trip in Nov. Haven't been to the Poly but can say that it is so much nicer than YC Concierge the way it's set up with comfy couches and chairs plus the tables. The food set up is much easier to access as well.

When we checked in we walked and walked and walked to the room. I'm sure it was a terrific savannah view but I really wanted closer to the lounge for my money. We got moved up to 6th floor, last room on the Sunset Savannah side. For all the time (very little) we spent in the room, it was fine. We did spend a lot of time in the lounge since we were with another family and that was our meeting/staging area.

The room was nice, roomy and cleaned everyday. However, we never got a single towel creature. Plus I guess the maid decided I had taken enough soap because after the second cleaning of our 5 night stay, they stopped leaving any more soap! Not a big deal but have read on these boards about AKL doing that but I've not experienced any other resort housekeeping cutting us off.

I thought the bus service was great too and it was so nice not going to other resorts.

You all will love your stay there. It's the one resort that I really do want to go back to. Not that the others are bad but AKL really is special!

PS HI to Jill in the Mountains of Colorado! Not many of us Colorado folk here on the boards...

P.S> Hi to Sharon in Colorado! You're right...I hardly ever
hear from anyone in Colorado that goes to WDW! When we
go everyone that finds out where we're from is surprised we
don't go to Disneyland?? Why would I go there when WDW
is so much larger???

I have a question about the bed set up on the concierge level. Do all the deluxe rooms have the queen/bunkbed/daybed or are there some with the 2 queens and the daybed?? We are trying to decide between Poly concierge and AKL concierge for our next trip. I haved stayed savannah view room at AKL and never stayed at the Poly.

Deena,

The concierge level at AKL has different set ups for beds depending on what you want. I had read on these boards that if you have a family of 5, you had a better chance of getting a savannah view, because most rooms with that view were bunk bed setups. It worked great for us with 3 boys! Each boy had their own bed since we had the day bed too! I guess my suggestion for getting a savannah view(although I was told by concierge that it was never guaranteed) is to ask for bunk beds.

At the Poly concierge, the rooms are supposedly bigger(however
I didn't see the difference) and as far as I know, there aren't
any bunkbeds in any rooms. I wish when Poly did the rehab on
Hawaii House, they would have done something with the bathroom setup. It's very nice, but very small! Only one sink
and all contained in one small room, as opposed to AKL with
2 sinks and separate tub and toliet room. Works much better
with family of 5!!!

Both resorts have their perks, but we tended to prefer AKL
a bit more...however it was sure easy to hop on the monorail
to get everywhere!!!

Thanks Jill! Sounds like the YC concierge. They have the 2 queens or 2 queens and a daybed rooms. We got the 2 queens and a daybed since there were 6 of us (2 under 3). Need to a take advantage of the one room deal while we can, lol. The same year my youngest turns 3 our oldest turns 18 so we will be hit with the child rates and extra adult rates :D
