Just back from our 1st stay at Pop

Hi Shelly888! We met on the bus one evening. :)

Yes, there are plastic cups. However, this is not an issue for us, as I have seen the exposes on the non-cleaning, non-sterilizing glass care at hotels. I believe there is a thread on here that mentions the Contemporary was exposed not properly cleaning glasses. I would be willing to bet this why that change has been made across the board. If I find that thread, I'll post a link.

As for water pressure, we have not had trouble in our two stays at POP. The shower heads are adjustable, so perhaps that may have been partially at fault. We also have never had hot water trouble, not to say it doesn't happen, but we haven't experienced it.

We had soap on the sink, soap laid on the tub edge and a single small bottle of shampoo with conditioner. The shampoo would not wash more than 2 heads that had shoulder length hair, but you can request an additional bottle from housekeeping.

The towels were in good condition. They are not large and by no means soft and luxurious, but they did the job. :) They were clean and had no stains nor holes.

I am curious, based on your comments, would you mind describing more specifically what it was that you missed in the way of amenities comparing Pop to the Deluxe resorts?
I am a DVC member, there is a reported change in policy for the studio villas in the DVC resorts - they are supplying these villas with plastic glasses and foam cups, rather than glass glasses and ceramic mugs. This change is getting me thinking about the amenities provided at the non-DVC resorts...I am concerned about cutbacks affecting the quality of stays onsite. At Pop were you provided with plastic or glass glasses? (Seeing that there are no coffee makers in the rooms, it would make sense that there are no mugs provided.) I have read conflicting reports as to what is provided at Pop, so I was hoping to benefit from your first hand experience.
Have you ever seen a video on hotel glasses? I was happy that Pop had wrapped plastic cups.

I must admit if money was no object I would stay at Poly. But I do enjoy Pop and really enjoy going to WDW multiple times a year.

What I love about Poly that I don't get at Pop: VERY comfy queen size beds, flat screen TVs, the private balcony, the view of the castle, the monorail, the view of the fireworks, the electric water parade, the huge rooms, the beach.

A small issue is that I tend to charge everything back to the room and Pop has a charge limit of $500. If you don't think to go and make a payment you'll get cut off. I think the limit at deluxe resorts is $1,500.

The gift store at Pop didn't have the snack variety that the deluxes do. Especially the 2 liter bottles of coke. The toiletries provided at Pop were not the same as the Deluxes. The brand was different.
One think I liked at Pop was that nearly all the food was in the food court. They do have 2 liter bottles of soda in the food court at Pop.

The toiletries are the same brand (H2O) but the quality is nicer at the deluxe resorts.

Oh my gosh, I looked all over the gift shop and food court for the 2 liters of coke. Couldn't find them anywhere. I probably should of asked, but they were always so busy. I ended up putting a lot of quarters in the coke machine.:rotfl2:

Just wanted to mention that even the Westin on Michigan Ave. in Chicago has plastic cups and cardboard coffee cups. This hotel averages around $300 a night. I like it when they are wrapped in plastic, at least I know they are clean. Just don't see the big deal in a glass cup?

Actually I have seen the video(s) - and have also seen videos about issues to do with 'gunk' on the bedspreads, bedbugs on mattresses and 'icky stuff' in the carpets. Ewww. Having been sick during my last stay at WDW, I am using more thorough sanitation precautions in all hotels I stay in from now on.
In the studios at DVC resorts there is a small sink in the kitchenette, and they *used to* provide glasses and ceramic mugs *and* dishwashing liquid. So it wasn't a problem to wash these items to ensure they were clean enough before use. I suppose they can present this change as a measure to protect their guests, but honestly I think it's more likely a cost saving measure. Plastic glasses and foam cups are much cheaper, and significantly lighter (and take much less space)...so save a lot on Mousekeeping. The problem is, it's not even slightly environmentally friendly, and Disney is trying to present themselves as a 'green' company these days.:confused3
I am curious if the plastic wrapped plastic cups that are provided at Pop have replaced real glasses (and whether foam cups have replaced ceramic mugs) at all the resorts at WDW. I must admit I'm particularly curious about the mods and deluxe resorts now...the problem was identified at the Contemporary resort. Clearly there is no way for guests to properly wash glasses or mugs themselves in the traditional resort rooms.
With regards to the $500 charge limit, the resort doesn't cut you off permanently, you just have to call the Front Desk and ask them to charge the $500 to your credit card. After they do this you will have another $500 (or $1000 at a moderate, $1500 at a deluxe) available on your room key. Believe me, they don't want you to stop spending your money at WDW ;)

I don't remember if we had plastic or glass at POR last Aug but I do know we had foam not ceramic mugs.

I was cut off when I was in the park and tried to charge back to the room. I know I just had to call or go to the front desk but I wasn't thinking about the lower limit at Pop until I tried to make that charge.
