Just returned from 7 nights at OKW. My biggest fear was that our requests would not be met. We needed a first floor for my 72 year old mom's medical problems and non-smoking because of my kids asthma. We were not arriving until 8pm so I was really worried. Thankfully, we got both requests! We were in 2312. Excellent building, view and location. Brand new appliances and beds. Cast members were all very friendly.

Only two complaints. It was pretty cold in the evening (not complaining since it was in the single digits at home) and there was a BREEZE coming in from every single window in the living room. It was enough of a breeze to keep a kleenex in the air! Yep, we tested it!! I am not sure if this is normal when it is so cold and windy or if these windows were just not sealed right.

The other complaint was about the heard of elephants that were staying above us. I swear they did laps in the unit from evening until midnight. They would stomp from one end to the other for HOURS!! Drove us crazy. Some people forget that there may be guests below them or maybe they don't think they are making that much noise.

Our one funny moment: I pretty much pack everything but the kitchen sink when we travel. My dh is always teasing me about it. When we arrived, I started putting the fitted sheets on the beds that I bring along. I can't stand their sheets. After unpacking, I went into the living room and my dh was laughing hysterically. He held up a brand new shower curtain and liner, still in the package. He said I needed help quickly since I am now bringing my own shower curtain. Well, I had to play along for a few minutes. I went on about all the mold, germs, etc that might be on the old liner. What really got him was that I even brought a shower curtain, not just the liner. Obviously, I hadn't gone that far. Housekeeping just forgot to put them up. It took taking him into the bathroom and showing him that nothing was up before he would believe me! lol

Sounds like you had a great trip, for the most part. Not surprised that you got the type of room you requested - DVC CM's have always gone out of their way to accomodate any special requests we may have had.

The breeze in the room issue is a new one on me. Our only January experience was at VWL, and nothing like that happened. Did you call about it?

The "elephants" are a different type of problem. We were on the other end, being the elephants one visit at OKW. We brought friends along with us, and our combined 4 kids had difficulty controlling their exuberance. The people below us gave us a polite phone call, and that was the end of it. Perhaps they didn't realize you were below them.

Hope the rest of the vacation was super. Do you bring shower curtains everywhere? My sister won't put anything in a hotel room until she's dowsed it with her can of Lysol!

:D We've stayed at OKW over 75 times since joining DVC back during it's inception. We have always received our room requests, first floor non-smoking,etc. 100% of the time. Requested and received a specific building about 70% of the time. I'd say those were pretty good percentages.:bounce: We have also had that herd of elephants staying above us a couple of times. Once it was exceptionally bad and we called the front desk. Remarkably, it stopped shortly after that and later in the day we actually ran into the woman that was staying above us and would you beleive, she actually apologized. Only at WDW,right?:D

Lisa,
Thanks for the entertaining report from OKW.One of the reasons we always request top floor so we don't have to worry who is above us(I know you had no choice).

What unit at OKW has a shower curtain?? We've always had doors on the shower. Shower curtains are YUCKY!

Sharper, the second bedroom of a two bedroom unit has a standard tub with a shower curtain. This same bathroom configuration is in a studio unit. I've never noticed anything wrong with them.

Thanks for the trip report! I also would have thought about approaching the people above, but it is very awkward.

I stayed in a studio twice, a few years ago and am positive that there was no shower curtain. (This was in one of the later buildings, 60 something, so maybe the newer buildings have doors and not curtains??) We have stayed in one-bedroom units the last couple of times but have reservations for a studio for part of an upcoming trip. I MUCH prefer a shower door than a curtain. I wonder if all of the studios have shower curtains? I have confidence in Disney's housekeeping to keep them clean, but not something I like. I'll the the annoying guest who wants a studio with no shower curtain!

:smooth: We have stayed at OKW quite a bit as you can tell by my last post. 95% of the time we have stayed in a studio, and have never seen a bath tub with a door, just curtains. And the worst part about them is not that they are dirty, there not, but they have a tendency to cling to your body while your trying to shower. The doors are on the one bedroom and larger. We have also stayed at the new buildings and they also have curtains:(

Maybe you were underneath a Grand Villa. These are the noisiest units at OKW. With hardwood floors and cathedral ceilings it doesn't take much to sound like a herd of elephants.

We had complaints the last time we went with 5 kids and did the best we could to keep them quiet. I think by carpeting the GV's they could cut down on a lot of that noise.

We are going again this weekend and staying in a GV. We will request that if there are going to be empty units, that they leave the one under us vacant. The stress of trying to keep 3 toddlers quiet as mice can put a damper on the vacation.

Glad to here the rest of your vacation was wonderful!
