Just back from OKW-tipping bus drivers??

We just completed a wonderful trip in a one bedroom at OKW. It really spoiled us and I don't think we could stay anywhere else ever again. But, I had two revelations on this trip. One: I think there should be a new rule for the pools that people with shoulder length hair or longer should have their hair in a pony tail while swimming. I can't tell you how many times I felt hair across my arm or saw it floating by. Then I would see girls with long hair running their fingers through it right by the pool or in it. It's just GROSS! I have long hair and mine was up. I was thinking about mentioning it to Disney. Does anyone else agree? And two: One very, tired, late, night we had a bus driver named Bill who entertained us the whole way back to our room. And while I always say thanks when I depart the bus, I thought about tipping Bill, but there was no where to do it. I am sure they don't make that much and really they are saving us so much grief by driving us that we should be able to show appreciation if we want to. I was also thinking of mentioning this to Disney. Any thoughts???

We've tipped bus drivers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, but I don't think they are in a job category where tipping is allowed. Technically, I don't believe they are supposed to accept tips. So if struck by the urge to slip the driver a little something extra, it's best to do it on the sly. One of the best things you can do for an entertaining bus driver (or any CM who goes above and beyond) is to take their name from their CM pin and write a nice report to Disney. I do know that they get recognistion for giving "disney days" and getting lots of positive feed back. I love it when we get a bus driver who engages the riders with running monologs, conversation, etc.

We tip alot on our trips. The drivers are not suppose to accept tips. We have tried on several occasions. Everytime time we have tried to tip them, they refused.

Some of them really deserve the tips at times!

I agree with Diane. Write a brief letter to Disney complimenting "Bill." Include the bus run (what park to OKW) and if possible the date and time (of day). It might go longer than a one time tip and may improve the quality of our CMs since Disney will be more aware of who on their payroll are truly "noteworthy."

I've been on Bill's buses twice. He was great!! I never thought about writing a letter or anything though. I will remember that for next time because he was above and beyond and you knew he loved his job and loved WDW!!

As for the hairs in the pools - it's only hair and it's in a chlorine laced pool. I don't see the big deal, there are grosser things than that.

For example, I was reading an article about the proposed maze for the ill-fated Beastly kingdom at the AK when I read this:

Working with live plants meant we'd have some very interesting dilemmas to solve. If we were going to open the attraction with a large number of mature topiaries, we'd have to start growing them years in advance. All the different species of hedges and flowers had different requirements for maintenance and feeding, and would need careful planning to keep everything healthy. We'd also have to account for a certain amount of guest abuse, intentional or not. In Alice's Curious Labyrinth in Disneyland Paris, some of the plant walls deteriorated because male guests relieved themselves in the more private areas of the maze. Because that's usually not an accepted cultural practice in America, we didn't think it would be a problem in our maze—but we tried to plan for every contingency.

OK so is this an accepted cultural practice in Europe? Eeeeuuuwwwwww!

And with regard to the shedding hair, mine is very fine and breaks and falls out often. A pony tail will do nada to solve this. I know...I wear mine up all the time and still have hair coming out. Actually, a cosmetologist friend of mine told me that it probably breaks and falls out MORE because of the ponytail. And whether I have it cut short or down past my shoulders, it still falls out, so this is not a "long hair" problem.

I would write a letter also.If I had to guess,I would say 9 out of 10 letters written are a complaint.People just don't seem to take the time when it's a compliment.But they won't hesitate when they think they've been wronged.
