We really enjoyed our trip to Boston and Maine and wanted to say thanks again to everyone who gave me advice. We ended up staying at the Milestone in Ogunquit and it was a nice hotel. The beds were comfortable and the room was very large. It had a king bed and fridge and microwave. Loved the town and the shops and restuarants. We drove to Kennebunkport and really liked that too. Had a Congdon donut in Wells,a Lobster roll in Kennebunkport and ate at Barnacle Billy's in Perkins Cove. Saw the Nubble lighthouse on our way to Boston. We will definitely visit Maine again. Boston was fun( but the Big Dig was not) and the pace there is a little fast for me on vacation. Loved the North End (Dolce Vita rest. and Mike's pastries) and Quincy Market. Highly recommend the JFK library.

Mmmm, Mike's Pastries! Did ya carry out a white box with blue lettering?

We didn't do Boston as much as we could have, but when we did, the North End was always a good bet.

Ted (I know, Holly's login...)

where's my doughnut??

i love congdon's!!!!

Did you do the duck tours in Boston??? People seem to love those, if you did, you went right by the apartment we have in Boston.. :)

The Big Dig is horrifying to us too... we wonder will it ever end??

Welcome back! I'm glad you had such a great trip.

We are heading up that way in several weeks. LOVE it up there, have been traveling there for over 30 years, (displaced New Englander here, that gets homesick). Did you walk the Marginal Way in Ogunquit? I could just do that for a whole day and be so happy, it is so spiritual to me...the ocean and waves, just lets your mind rest. Silly I know, but that is the place that visiting there puts me! Nubble/Cape Nedick is also so beautiful, love it there too. If you ever get a chance, travel further north in Maine to Acadia Park and on to Schoodic point, ah, even more beautiful.:) Bar Harbor is great...I could go on and on...can you tell I like it there???:p

Glad to hear mar3990 that you had a great trip.........weather has been so nice here this september-- sun, 70's and dry......no rain or humidity and now all the trees are getting so beautiful with the fall colors....glad you enjoyed our little state.....we love it here in Maine . Come again:D

Thanks to all the replies. Yes we did the Duck tour. We found it to be an interesting trip. Not sure if I would recommend or not. You see more if you walk the Freedom trail which we did forward and back(long walk!). The Duck boat driver was funny(dressed as a caveman) and had lots of stories. When we asked the Boston natives they said that most of what he said was made up. We found it amusing that you get into the river in the middle of a construction zone and there was no real boat landing. If someone at our hotel could have told us more info about the trail we could have started at Bunker Hill and walked back into town and then got on the subway to go back to our car. Not that I didn't enjoy the walk but it is long and hilly for those not up for it.
I would love to explore Maine further and go up the coast farther north. I wish we would have had more time for that but DH was there for work in Boston. We did walk the Marginal Way and loved it. We found that that area reminded us alot of the shores of Lake Superior here at home and less like you are at the ocean. The weather was wonderful the whole time we were there. I left all the donuts behind in Maine, also the pastries and ice cream . We are back to watching our diet now that the vacation is over.

I can see Bunker Hill Monument from my apartment and I hear the duck tours all the time.. I have never taken one so I cannot tell you whether they are telling the truth or not.. but I can say I am a Boston girl and I do not remember ever walking the Freedom Trail... it is a long walk. Good for you that you did it... next time you are in Boston, let us know we can put together a mini meet.. Welcome home..

As an original poster to your Maine questions I'm so glad to hear you had a good trip.

When we stayed at the Milestone we thought the rooms were quite large also...the king bed we thought was very comfortable...we looked at the mattress to see if the tag was on it but it wasn't!

Perkins Cove is just so Maine to me...it makes me think of Cabot Cove from Jessica Fletcher Murder she wrote...of course Cabot Cove isn't real but if it were I'd love to live there.:D

Thanks for letting us know how the trip was.

What's the Big Dig?

The "Big Dig" is a huge hole in the middle of Boston that the taxpayers of Massachusetts keep dumping money into.....;)

A multi-decade, multi-kabillion dollar roadway reconstruction project to 'alleviate congestion' in downtown traffic.

Oh I see...it's one of those things that by the time it's finished, it'll be obsolete, right?

Glad you had a good time! :) We went to Oqunquit for the first time in August and really enjoyed it - we hope to make it an annual summer trip.

I also love Boston but don't get in too much lately. When the kids are a bit older I want to take them in more. We have done the duck tour and we all enjoyed that a lot. The big dig is another story...
