Just back from New Years Eve cruise, Any ???

Did you have fun??? We were on the Magic last NYE and would love to hear a little 'trip report'.

I would love to know what special festivities they do on New Year's Eve. Anything special for the kids? What about at midnight? I hope you enjoyed your trip! Can't wait to hear more.popcorn::

New Years Eve was Nassau day. We were in Tritrons for dinner. They have a special menu and did serve lobster tails. They pass out party hats and horns at the shows and on deck. The deck party starts about 10pm. You can be on deck nine in the middle of the festivities or have a bird's eye view on deck 10. The pictures they take during the meal have a special NYE border. The jumbotron has the count down from Dick Clark's NYE broadcast. At midnight they pass out champaign/sparkling cider in commenerative flutes. When you get back to your room, there will be special lithograph and box of chocolates on the bed. I can't answer what they do for the little ones. Our teen practically lived at ALOFT.

We were also on board the Wonder for NYE and 2 of my 3 kids spent their time in their club. (DS8 & DD 4) By the time we picked up the 4 year old, she fell asleep. So, I guess they had an event of their own. I know both clubs had hats and horns. My kids too, spent more time in their clubs, (their choice) than with us. We had a table for 5 for dinner, and usually only had 3 there. Our 4 year old NEVER went to dinner.

Yes!! I have TONS of questions. :yay: I was hoping someone on the Wonder this New Year's Eve would come and post a full trip report.

We will be sailing on the Wonder next NYE- we set sail on 12/31/08.
It will be me, DH and 2 sons (18 & 21) so we will be doing mostly "adult" type things.

Was NYE a "formal" night? Did people wear tuxes and gowns? More so than a regular 4 night cruise?

Were the on board parties loud and late? What were the adult areas like after midnight?

New Year's Day will be Nassau for us. Do you think most places would be open on a holiday? Was it a slower, quieter morning on New Year's Day?

Were the college football games shown on NY Day?

It's nice to hear that the photos commemorate the holiday, and the lithograph sounds nice too.

I have more questions I am sure, but this is a start! Thanks in advance.

Hey,
I'm not sure if I will be of any help. But I just returned today from NYE cruise on the Magic. Our formal night was NYE. It was wonderful, our dinner was in Lumiere's. Then the second show, then most of our party went back to dress casual for the later part of the evening. But yes we were in formal long gowns and tuxes. Myself, DH, DS(18),DD(16),DD(8),DS(7) and my parents. I would say that 95% were dressed this way. The celebration was Disney at its best. I envy you next year, we aren't sailing again until 7/2009. Yes, there festivities for all ages until wee hours of the morning. Enjoy!!

That is a subject that might be touchy with those who just disembarked. The first three days were wonderful. Above avg. temps, but that all changed on the evening of the 1st. We had some rough seas, but nothing too bad.. 15 ft seas, but then the next day was Cozumel, all water excursions were cancelled. Then that evening, Gale Force winds and seas 30 to 35 feet. There were suppose to be 9 ships at Cozumel and only 4 made it to port. That lasted two days with the ending at CC with the weather at 70*, breezy, showers. I talked to many cruisers and many crew members that said they had not seen it that bad in a long time. But as always the crew did everything in their power to make the best of the situation and overall it was a good cruise.

for wdwscout: Yes NYE was the formal night. I did not see any tux. Most people around us were in tie/jacket and dresses. We went to bed around 1am and did not hear any of the party noise in our cabin. Not sure what will be open New Years Day for Nassau. We were on Castaway Cay on New Years Day which was originally scheduled to be the at sea day. The weather forecast caused them to change the schedule. We were not on board for the football games. Just to echo Ky Cruisin our at sea day had temp of 58, strong winds and waves 13-20 feet. Lots of people lined up at guest services for draminine.

Thanks. :thumbsup2

No tuxes? Once I learned about "formal night" on this 4 night cruise, we were more prepared to rent them from Disney than to lug jackets & ties in our baggage. I think I'm a bit disappointed about that.

And thanks for the weather update. I guess we will prepared for changes to the itinerary- and will bring plenty of Bonine/Dramamine. My oldest son and I have strong motion sickness issues. :headache:

We were just on the Wonder for NYeve and did see a few tuxes, but not many at all. Most people were dressed up though.

I was on the Wonder for NYE, and I was wearing a tux. I met fhtpdw20 and her husband the first day of the cruise. I hope you guys enjoyed your 20th anniversary on the Wonder. I know my family had a great time, even with the kids both getting seasick on sea day in the high waves.

There was a passenger who had to be flown to Miami on the CC day. The captain informed us about it, but none of us heard more about her. I was on the beach when the lifeguards took her out of the water. Did anyone hear if she's OK?

I was wondering about her myself. We were on the beach as well and concerned about her condition. I have been checking to see if anyone posted here about what happened. My heart goes out to the family. There was also a young boy life flighted right before she was for an appendicitis attack.
