This was our first DVC vacation and it was great!! We stayed in room 1138 in the main building. The room was awesome and in excellent condition. We had a view of the marsh and saw a few dolphins from our balcony:thumbsup2
Work was being done on the parking lot and the usual landscaping work going on. Kids did many activities, cast members were great and we didn't want to leave!! We will definately be back in the future. If anyone has any questions, please ask:goodvibes

I'm glad to hear the resort was great! We love HHI and go every other year. On our last trip, we walked the grounds at the resort and decided to buy some points there. We haven't actually seen a room. We are so anxious for our first trip!

Glad you had such a great time. We are going next month and I have no idea what to do besides 'relax'. This will be our first DVC trip.

We are in a 1BR, what do you recommend we bring with us (coffee, spices, cooking appliances?)

Is there a listing of kids club activities? My 10 yr old DD has been to the clubs on the cruises and wants to know what there is to do, can you help?

Is there website where family activites and tours are listed?

There are no characters there, right?

I am such a planner, but because work has been crazy I haven't committed the time to put this vacation together- please help!

Your going to love the 1 bedroom..very spacious.
There are no characters there. They do have a coffee maker and coffee in room but no spices.
There are plenty of activities to sign up for. Alot are free and some cost money. My daughters made a shark tooth necklace and fleece pillows. Both were $10 for each member. When you check in they will give you an activity list for the week. Look it over and sign up for what you want to do.
We signed up for the dolphin cruise which was fun.
We visited the pool and beach almost everyday. You can rent bikes, which we did, and ride about 1 mile to the beach. The beach was great. We saw lots of starfish and sand dollars. They also have a pool at the beachhouse. You will have alot of fun. Even though it sounds like we were very busy, it was very relaxing. It's a great resort!!!

Make sure you have pot holders in your 1 BR. We discovered on the third day, as we went to take something out of the oven, that we didn't have pot holders. The cookware is basically for a large family-we only had 2 people in our one bedroom, so we found that the casserole dishes were realy big for us, and our food was dwarfed in them (not a problem, we just noticed). But what could have been a (small) problem is that we didn't have much coffee creamer or sugar. When we called down to the front desk, 10 minutes later housekeeping arrived with enough creamer/sugar for a small army!

Housekeeping was very good. They were all very nice and when we needed more tide, soap or sugar for our coffee it was brought up to us right away.
I did forget to mention that they have new towels for the pool and beach. one CM told me disney is trying this out on HHI first because it's a small resort. They are big green and white towels. They were nice.

Can you give me some sort of idea how much the dolphin excursion cost? I also heard some where on this board about an eco-trip to an island?

Another question- what type of coffee maker is in the 1BR? Do I need to bring filters?

Thanks for your time.

The dolphin cruise costs $40 per person. On member day (wednesdays)
you get 10% off. This was a great cruise. It was the 4 of us and one other couple. You can do other cruises for alot cheaper but your on a bigger boat with more people. You don't have to bring coffee filters. The coffee they give you comes in a filter. Kind of like a big tea bag.
You can combine the dolphin cruise with a beachcombing trip to another island but its more money. I think $70 per person. We were glad we didn't do this part because we found alot of shells and starfish at the beach.

Picmac - we were at HHI a few weeks ago. One more hint - sign up for activities EARLY! The activity/craft area is rather small and seemed to fill up quickly. If you wait until the day of the activity it will likely be too late. We signed up for all our activities and tours the day we arrived. Worked out well.

Have fun!

The parking at the resort depends on what building your in. If your in the main building (in my opinion this is the most convenient) you can park underneath the building or out front. All other parking is along side shelter cove marina. There seems to be enough parking for everyone.
As far as how many spots are assigned per unit, I don't know??

It sounds wonderful! Someday we will get there, I hope.
