All I can say about the AKL is WOW! From the moment you walk into the grand lobby, to the moment you leave, you will be in awe! A few of my favorite parts:
  1. The amazing lobby
  2. The Animals!
  3. The atmosphere
  4. The Storytelling
  5. The Friendly CMs

The pool was big, but not my favorite Disney pool.
The atmosphere of this resort is so amazing! The lobby is fantastic, with huge windows over looking Arusha Rock, which is an excellant place to learn more about the animals from the incredibly friendly CMs!
The only restaraunt we ate at in the AKL was Mara it is definitely the best snack restaraunt out of all the resorts.
The rooms were very spacious and well themed with Animals grazing right outside the window! The mousekeeping was terrific, and the housekeepers were extremely friendly! We were in room 2527 on the Zebra trail. his has to be one of the best rooms in the hotel, because it's right by the waterhole.
The overall theming of the resort was magnificent.
TIP: Just before a rainstorm animals become very frisky, they are fun to watch.
I never thought I'd say this, but this resort is just a great, if not better, than the Poly!
    Any questions?

Nlihte:

Thank you so much for your description of AKL. I am surprising my mother July 5th with the FTP for 7 nights. This will be our 40th visit to WDW but our first to AKL. I am so excited I just cannot wait for our visit. I love to read all the posts about AKL and am so looking forward to our visit. We have PS for dinner @ Boma's the evening of our arrival. Glad to hear that Mara's is good. We probably won't spend much time poolside maybe just to cool down.

Thanks again for your report.

Yes: Transportation. Did you wait a long time to get to the parks other than AK? Did you feel "out of it" and if so, was that a positive or negative feeling?

While I was there the transportation was terrific. Never waited for a bus longer than 10 minutes and always got to sit down! And we made the trip to MK twice while there which is the furthest away from the lodge and I honestly thought it was better than the time it took to make the rounds of all the villages at CBR and then go to MK. We stayed the first part of our trip at CBR. I look forward to going back to AKL, even if I have to settle for a standard room!

Thank you for making me even more excited for our upcoming trip!! I love the Polynesian......and I've been anxious to try AKL. I think we've made the right decision....thanks!!

Great thanks!!
I had doubt about AKL due to transportation. Alternatively we would be staying at POR.

We rarely used Disney Transportation, but when we did, it was very good. AKL really didn't seem that far out of the way, and it was fun driving by other things like the AK entrance, BB, the AS's,etc. It was nice being a litle out of the way, it is quiet at night on the balcony, and you feel as if you really are in Africa, yet the AKL has that Disney feel.

What time is the storytelling at night? We're going next week and I'm afraid our dinner reservations might interfere....

Thanks!

When we were there the storytelling was at 6 pm. Normally it is around the firepit outside, but it was raining the night we went and they had it in the sunset lounge. My daughter loved it, as did all the kids who were there.

Story times quite often interfered with our plans because they were at 7:30. We made it once, and it was nice.
