Well we just got back from DD's surprise birthday trip and it was great. We were supposed to be at the GF from 9/22 - 9/29 but after two nights at GF we were home sick for the Poly and switched on Saturday night  .

Please don't flame me as this is just my opinion but we did not like the Grand Floridian at all. It was nice enough but it is supposed to be Disney's signature resort and I definately did not feel like I was getting my money's worth. First of all we were put in a dormer room which was very small, mousekeeping had forgotten to clean the toilet and there were splatters all over the seat :crazy2: , there was only one elevator working in the building (sago cay) and so whether going up or down you were in for at least a 5 minute wait, and to top it all off our room was extraordinarily close to a loading dock with trucks coming in and out all day and all night. I also felt that the resort was very bright and not at all relaxing. So after two nights we decided we would all be much happier at the Poly.

Saturday night we went to dinner at O'hana and decided to let them know we would be back, to stay, LOL!! So after dinner we went back to GF and checked out and then got checked in to the Poly and we were lucky enough to get a newly remodled room in Fiji :cool1: (this is my new favorite building). We were in room number 3305 which had a great veiw of the monorail passing by, the beach, the GF, and of course the gorgeous landscaping. I know a lot of people have had issues with the noise from luau cove but we actually really enjoyed it and it was over by about 9:30 each evening. I am happy to answer any questions about the Poly, the new room, or the GF. I hope to be adding some pics of the new room shortly.

Thank you for the honest report. I am sorry you didn't find the Grand to your liking but I can understand that. When the Grand first opened we stayed there twice and the difference from the first time to the second was like night and day... what a shame, it's a beautiful property and has some great staff members.

What did you think of the new rooms at the Polynesian? Did you take any pictures of the new digs?? Tell us all about the new look when you get the chance...

It does sound like you had a good vacation and that's what matters.

Always love reading these Poly posts! So glad you enjoyed your stay...in your new favorite longhouse! :)

We couldn't see any of the luau but we could hear the music which was really nice. As far as the new rooms they are great, the new T.V. is definately better than the old small ones that were in the rooms and there is a lot more counter space now so that's a big plus. Here are a couple of pics just click on the link below, and please excuse the mess.

It sounds like there are a number of new Fiji fans! We've never stayed there. Glad to hear you enjoyed your Polynesian part of the stay and thanks for sharing your pictures. Great view and fun to see the new decor.

Thanks for the report and the pics! I liked seeing the new rooms at Poly. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at GF, but I'm glad you enjoyed the Poly.

Thanks for the report and pics. I loved the Poly and will find it hard to stay anywhere else. I was unimpressed with my look around the GF and thought the lobby looked like the set of the Titanic movie! I checked out the other deluxes and the only one that I think I might like to stay at would be the WL.

Thanks for sharing. I LOVE the new TV. I'm not so sure how I feel about the new color scheme though. Is the comforter red, white and blue?

You just made my day !!! I have been waiting to hear if Fiji was reopened and I guess It will be available for my Oct. 10 check in.

Yes Fiji is completed. Everytime we have stayed at the Poly I have requested Tahiti just because we like the location and were basically just used to it, so when we checked in my first thought was to ask for tahiti but then it dawned on me to ask if they had any new rooms available and lucky us they did. I am so glad that we were placed in Fiji the views are great and the location is super.

As for the GF we didn't hate it we just prefer the Poly and I think we were just unlucky with the room we wound up with. The location was awful with the loading dock right there, then there was the broken elevator, and the dormer room which just seemed so small. Definately didn't ruin our trip or anything, in fact I'm still glad we tried it.

Great pics...I don't know how much I like the new room though. It looks so bare without the little canopy thing above the bed. I really like that. The TV looks pretty cool though.

Can you tell me about the table in the room? Is it a regular table that you can eat on or is it a little side type table like I saw in tikiman's post a while back of a prototype room. Im curious to see what they decided on.

Great pictures! I really like the new Polynesian rooms! I didn't see it in your photos, but your room did have a daybed, right?

Sorry you didn't enjoy the GF. Would you happen to have any photos from there?

Good question, sunkissed. I would love to know about the table as well. :sunny:

Thanks for sharing your pics, Tina. What beautiful views! I'm leaning more and more toward requesting Fiji on our next trip (if it's non-smoking), as we are traveling with MIL, who has two "new" knees, and we will need to be near GCH.

The new rooms look nice. I just don't get the headboards, as they don't seem to match the rest of the wood in the rooms. I hope this has to do with not all the stuff being delivered on time, and new ones are on order?

Oh, we LOVE the Fiji longhouse. Your pics of the view from the room look just like the ones we took. I bet we stayed in the same room! I don't remember the room # - just that it was on the 3rd floor.

Last year we stayed in Fiji but on the marina side. I have to say I prefer the 'garden' side much better. The marina side is very noisy!

Glad you had a nice trip!

Debbie

::MickeyMo We loved figi too. We had the marina side, but the garden side is really beauitful! :flower: The location can't be beat. Just a few steps to everything.

I agree, the bed just doesn't make sense now? If they are leaving it that way, why take out the cool ceiling bamboo thing? That was the best part of the bed? And why not re-stain the wood to match the rest of the room? The have to be waiting for the beds to come in and finish the rooms? :confused3

Did you order room service? Do they now bring in a table with it? I thought maybe they are using serving tables now since the rooms do not appear to have one. :earseek:

I am curious about the bathroom. Not much info on this. I only heard, that a little shelf added over the bottom of mirror area? & new mirrors? Any thing else change? Update or change anything else.

What did you think of the new closet area compared to the old set up?

Thanks for your information. Your pictures where great. :sunny: I needed a fix we came home exactly 1 month ago today, from the poly. :guilty:

Thanks, Mky princess:

Don't mean to answer for them but the rooms are still going to get a different headboard that has not come in so it looks a little bare. There will no longer be a table in the room like there was.

Great photos!!!

Aloha
