Just back from GF and AKL

"This is great info. I am going to GF in December. We have a Garden View room. Are there "better" Garden View rooms to request. Is it worth paying for an upgrade to a lagoon view ? "

I would like info on the rooms too? We are going in Oct and have a GV room booked. Thanks

Hi. I have stayed at GF 6 times. I now only will stay in Garden view simply b/c every room I've had has been wonderful. There are no parking lot views at this hotel. Our first visit was in a massive 2-BR suite with LR, DR, etc. This was before DD was born and we were with friends. It was great and everything but we hardly took advantage of it plus it was in Sago Cay which is my least favorite. Our second visit was in Sugar Loaf concierge. This was noisy and it was late January! 3d and 5th trips were lagoon view in Boca Chica (5th we were upgraded to lagoon from garden b/c I requested a room change due to bad smoke smell) and 4th and 6th were in garden view. I admit it is magical to see Cinderella's castle from your balcony - as well as the water parade. If you have never stayed at GF I guess I would say reserve lagoon if you can. DO NOT get your hopes up on getting upgraded. This hotel has high occupancy rates. As I said, I've stayed there 6 times and I've never been offered an upgrade at check-in (except in the case of the smoke-out :p and, yes, that was very nice.)
Once you stay there a time or two, I think you'll be perfectly satisfied with the garden view. In all honesty, our garden view room's decor and view on our last trip was one of the nicest we've ever had!
Have fun!

Thanks for the information everyone! I'm getting very excited about our trip! Some of our friends/family think we are crazy to spend that much for a room, but I'm going to enjoy being spoiled! We've stayed at the Poly/PO/Contemp/ which were all very nice, but this will be great! I'll answer any questions when I get back too!

I am so happy to see this thread because my family will be at the GF in February 2004!! I think I am more excited than anyone else. Regardless, I am trying to find the answer to this question: which buildings/floors at the GF are smoking??? We are all non-smokers and would hate being around smoke on our trip. Boca Chica is capturing my interest as a building to request, but I have heard that it is a building that permits smoking????? Can anyone answer this question?

mariamouse :smooth:

i stayed at boca chica, but im not sure about the smoking..i did request non smoking

The lodge bldg. that is officially smoking is Big Pine Key floors 4 and 5. I love and REQUEST Boca Chica. However I once had to ask for a new room b/c of smoke smell (FRESH, newly-smoked, smell ) Just be aware that some people don't care what the rules are and will smoke in the room. You'll just have to insist on another room if you get a smoky one but this is unlikely to happen. Be sure to have them add Non-smoking on your reservation if it's not already there...
