WDW/Fort Wilderness 21 Sep-29 Sep 05
This is a first attempt at doing a review of anywhere, so here goes nothing.
Upon arrival at Ft. Wilderness around 1:30pm, we were greeted at the gate by security. All goes well here, but we are just inside the gate.
After the gate, we are greeted by the line. This should have been a sign. There are at least 6 check in lines, but only one was opened. A form of construction scaffolding blocked half of them off and cones blocked the rest.
After sitting for about 20 mins without moving, the unit in front of me started up and made a u-turn, so I moved up. Several mins later the next does the same. Moved up again. After sitting a while longer, paying no heed to the sign that said Stay in your vehicle I got out and went to the check-in area. Talking with others there, found out that the computer went down and cast member had to go to another.
After a few more minutes, another line opened up. Everything seemed to go fine here. Got info, and site number. Proceed to site. Looked at site for about 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get into it.
NOTE: Had read here that some sites are tight, but that does not do them justice. COULD NOT get into the assigned site(1100 Loop). I have 35 of towed trailer and 22 of truck. I also have driven semis for a living and thought I could put a trailer anywhere.
Back down to check in. Got new site and keys. Site was a little better (1000 Loop). Was across from Meadows Trading Post on the center roadway (Orange bus line).
BIG NOTE: If you are staying in the campground, carry AT LEAST 50 of electrical cord and 50 of water line. 20 of sewer line is also VERY nice. They sell extra at the Trading Post, but at least 25% more than Wal-Mart.
The biggest problem that I can see with the campground is that it was designed in the early seventies when rigs were smaller, the people assigning sites dont know what is out there and they have NEVER tried to put a rig into a site.
Thats all the exciting stuff.
