There's probably a million of these kinds of pictures around, but we just returned from our 7 day trip, and I thought I'd share a few of our pics of the construction at the GCH. We had a 12th floor themepark view room at the PPH, and it was conveniently located directly above the construction area. I suppose for the average hotel guest, they wouldn't appreciate a view of a construction project, but we couldn't have been happier!:goodvibes

Here's our view to the right overlooking DCA.

Here's our view to the left overlooking the GCH and DL.

Here's our view looking straight down at the construction. It gives you a great look at the footprint of the new addition. The people in the pictures gives you an idea of the size.

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. GCV will be so convenient to the pools, won't it?

Lookslike those construction guys in your 4th picture are ready for a good game of "King of the Hill.":rotfl:

Ahhh, how I miss the smog of my southern California. I was born there and spent the first 35+ years there growing up (I'm almost grown up now, too).

:goodvibes Yep, it was a little heavier this year because of the fires in the area, but the smog has always been there every year we visit. I try to look at it this way.....it makes for prettier sunsets (in Anaheim at least).;)

We're going to WDW for our next Disney trip though (not sure when we're going yet), so we won't get the pleasure of the smog next time, darn it!:rotfl:

Thanks for the pics! They've dug a lot deeper since I was there 2 weeks ago.

I can't wait until it is done!

Good Job Disney Super Mom! I Wonder how deep they will go for the parking Maybe two levels?

Great photos showing the sandy soil Walt had to contend with when building Disneyland over 50 years ago. There is a great story about when they filled the Rivers of America and the next day the water was all gone! They had to line it with clay to keep the water from being absorbed into the soil Its alot different out here than in Florida that's for sure.

I especially love the second photo showing the Grand with the Matterhorn and Space Mountian in the distance. It really shows how the Villas will really be in the middle of the "magic".

What smog? You can see the mountains, so that's a clear day! ;)

Thanks for the pictures, disney-super-mom. Can't wait to get my hands on some points there, GCH is one of our favorite Disney resorts. :thumbsup2

Job well done.

Does that slide by the way have enough fall incorporated? Looks pretty flat but may just be the angle.

Great pictures!

Oh, I can't wait until we can purchase our add-on and stay at the GC. :cloud9:

wdw4life - I can't wait for it to be done either. I bet it'll be beautiful!

dwelty - I agree. Two levels for sure...maybe three. That soil really does look sandy. I kept looking at the guys standing on top of the dirt hill thinking, "Boy, that was probably a good leg workout getting to the top of that hill!" And yes, the GCH is, and the villas will definately be, in the middle of the magic. You couldn't get more middle than that unless the villas/hotel were in the middle of the esplanade.:goodvibes

La2kw - LOL, so true!!!:lmao:

jade1 - We've never stayed at the GCH, so I can't say for sure about the grade of the slide, but we sure saw a lot of kids flying off it and into the pool, so it must be pretty fun. I can say for SURE that the slides at the DLH and the PPH are fun!:woohoo:

ACDSNY - Have you saved up?:goodvibes How many points are you thinking about adding on? Enough for about 5 full days of DLR fun in a 2 bedroom?!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the pictures, Super-Mom! Any luck on getting your DH to agree to buying in, once they are open?

Thanks for the pics! We're going to DL and staying at GCH in a little less than 3 weeks. I can't wait. :yay:

We don't have enough saved up yet. DS is commuting to college an hour away this year so the gas cost is killing us. Yes I think 5 - 6 days of fun in a 2 bedroom will be about right. Oh hurry and open!

squidmo - eh, he's playing hardball. Don't worry, I'll get to him eventually.;) I must, for my sanity.....and HIS!!!;)

grizbuzz - You're going to love GCH! It's a gorgeous hotel, especially during the holidays. Take a moment to enjoy the pianist in the lobby and soaking in the atmosphere.:cloud9: Have a wonderful time!:santa:

ACDSNY - Well, luckily there's still plenty of time to save up for that add-on. Gosh darn gas prices!:headache:

Fantastic pictures with a clear idea of what the view will be like! I'm rubbing my hands in anticipation!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the GREAT pics! Did you stay on points? Seeing your pics really makes me want to do a DL trip. We were there last in 2004, so it has been a while. I think the next good DING! fare that comes my way may have us on our way!

I didn't stay on points because, I'm sad to say, I'm not a DVC member yet.:rolleyes1

We've been waiting for the last 3 years to buy into DVC hoping for a DVC resort at DL. Finally one is coming  ..........although it's disappointingly small..........but it's the first DVC at the DLR nonetheless!!!:cool1:

Anyway, in the last 2 years, DH has been on and off the DVC bandwagon. Right now he's in an *off* phase (he was very disappointed to the point of being disgusted that the GCV is going to be so small, so it swung him in the *off* direction), but I'm working on changing that back to an *on* phase. :goodvibes

Don't ya just love DING fares!!!:thumbsup2

You really should visit DL again. It's just such a special and magical place!:cloud9: Hmmmm, but with all the changes and construction taking place at DCA in the next few years, I'm not sure when the best time would be for you to make a trip over here. Still, very exciting changes taking place, and it should be wonderful when it's completed!

We're going to be visiting WDW our next couple of Disney trips though. We're (DH and I) Disneylanded out (if that makes sense), and we want to avoid all the construction as well. DH and I visited WDW for the first time in January and LOVED it! We didn't love the long flight over, but we LOVED all of WDW. Anyway, we're going to bring our two little guys (DS 8 and DS 4) with us for their first trip to WDW this next year. They'll probably be a little confused at first, but I know they're going to really love it as they realize it's NOT DLR, but a whole new Disney experience!:yay:
